@ SkateNj: Siena is a city that is very (and by that I mean sincerely) protective of their heritage. The kart race was supposed to take place on the square where the Palio usually takes place. That's a big horse race around the square, where every part of the city enters one horse and one rider under its flag. The winner is the big hero and the winning bourough is king. Problem is, they HATE tourists. They consider it their own thing, their tradition, and no one is allowed to disturb their fun and joy in the race. Problem is, just being there disturbs them. I've been there on race day to have a look at the race, and as I could'nt get a place on the square I tried to watch it from a TV inside a shop window. The result was that I was shunted aside by a little old lady and her 20 year old son (who was half as big as I am), insulting me and telling me to go away as I have no right to watch and take their place because I'm just a dumb stupid tourist.
Now imagine how many people made a huge fuss because a video game wanted to simulate a kart race on their sacred "Piazza del Palio". The poor mayor just wanted to advertise the city and its traditional flags for the bouroughs, but the lobby probably was just too strong.
