For all you guys out there who can drift using the GT Pro Force wheel, what is your technique? For me, I down shift into the recommended gear, turn the wheel 180 degrees into the corner, and when the car starts slipping, I let of of the wheel, and let it spin into the direction of the car until it locks, and when I wann get out of it, I let off on the gas a little and start straightening the wheel out. I do this with an AE86.

i just feint into corner, depending on what gear im in and at what rpm im at ill either stay in the same gear, or initiate the drift then downshift, counter steer as much as i need, then smoothly straighten the wheel out. all while modulating the gas/brake to keep me going around the corner at the desired angle.

Im finding that 'brake drifting' seems a little harder in GT4 than 3, so im using 'feinting' a lot more. I think that brake drifting in GT4 is in fact very different to GT3, in the sense that understeer is a lot more prominent in more cars, especially under heavy braking conditions.

for some reason i cant hold a drift at all on gt4.. like everytime i go for a somewhat long 3rd gear turn i always cut it short and end up driving into the dirt and/or wall. i really dont know what im doing wrong and why i cant do this... any suggestions on what i might be doin wrong?

your probably just need alot of pratice. i know i did, and still do.
im gettin better, but im nowhere near perfect.

i guess i just expect to be good at gt4 since im good at gt3 i dunno.. i really wish i had more time to practice. sucks being at school for 10 hours a day which is where i am now =/

man gt4 is totally different than gt3. its like relearning how to play the game. the only thing that is the same pretty much is the technique you use to initiate the drift.

You know what, the very first time I drifted in a game and felt really good about it was GT4. In fact, I was on Tsukuba with my 86 doing time trial runs, and i had pretty much every upgrade you could get. The only thing I really chaged were the tires; instead of the S2s, I used the N2s, and that helped the car to slip out better. I started out on the long straight before the corner going into the finish, and I just went into the corner at the recommended gear (4th) and totally gassed it the whole way. ABout 1/4 into the corner, the car started to slip, so I let go of the wheel and the car went into countersteer pretty much on its own, and i just kinda rode it out. Then as I crossed the finish and went into the first corner of the track, I pretty much did the same thing. Although it wasnt totally clean, it made me feel good. That was the first drift I ever pulled off in GT4, and that was like last saturday. Ohh, it felt so freakin good... Especially with the wheel... Anyone can controller drift, but few can wheel drift.

Hahaha, yeah, me too. I did it like twice, and after that I couldnt do it anymore. Oh well, now that I got a three day weekend, Ima get right back to it :) .

ya im really surprised how different 3 and 4 are... its like a totally different game. ilike 4 the most but 3 is still fun cuz i can actually drift in it =x i love being able to floor it almost the whole turn in my 470 hp sileighty.

My style is, Brake, feint, gas, brake, gas..... and brakes as needed. with the wheel, using just a little bit of braking in a turn that might get ugly, saves me everytime. but my style isnt very aggressive so yeah 👍

I got my DFP a week ago, and haven't been able to drift once since then. With a controller, I was hitting corners sideways with no problems.

I'm still working on it. However, I'm also just learning how to drive with the darn thing, so it'll be a while before I'm able to really drift again.

i use a cross of Feint and Power, i just brake before the turn, feint a TINY bit an then hit the throttle till i get sideways an then its all about throttle control. perfect in my
s-15 :sly:

can any one tell me... is it worth upgrading from my Driving Force wheel to the Driving Force Pro? and what advantaged are there apart from the 900 degrees of rotation....

from what ive heard its harder to drift on the DFP because of the 900 degree's but you gotta work at drifting with it, ive been driftin since the game came out, and im barely starting to get clean drifts with it, maybe its cuz i suck haha or the wheel, no clue but ya back to topic, only "advantage" the dfp has i guess is 900 Degree Mode, so if you dont really wanna spend the 150 for the wheel ya shouldnt.

ill be paying $300 because im in Aus... i might aswell stay with my wheel until it breaks, and i use feint drifting but am trying to learn new techniques

Yeah, me too. I've got a long way to go before I can actually say I can drift for real. Out of maybe 10 runs, two were actually good. Maybe I should mess with the suspension a little more...

First off, PULL THE PLUG. You'll thank the gods on high for this. The wheel feels a lot more like a real car. Then just go nuts. I pulled th plug and I was looking like :dopey: and then :sly: because drifting became a SNAP! 👍

I can't run a racing game without feedback. I need the plug IN for me.

But anyway, my techniques are any ones that exist, except for the clutch work (obvious reasons).

or you could leave the plug in and learn to live with it, since youll drift way better with it in IMO.
im doing just fine with it on full strength with assists on.

good drifters

im not asking everytime im asking usually. does anyone ever go all the way over? seems wheneveri go all the way over i lose all hope in the drift and either spin out or lose all my speed like instantly..

btw im j/king captain :sly:

All the way over...as in opposite lock? You'd probably only need to do that if you were near/at/over a 90degree angle. If you're going full lock approaching an exit and not modulating your throttle while reducing your countersteer, you're bound to loose speed, spin, or come out with a sloppy exit...

Captain Trips
Depends on your drift. :grumpy:
exactly!
i go full opposite lock through short corners facing the wall if i can get my entry and speed to be perfect. but other than that, its rare that i find myself going full opposite lock.

Hahahaha, pull the plug, eh? I tried that once, and it felt kinda wierd. Havent tried it with drifting though. You ever notice that once you get used to the wheel, you just can't use a controller anymore?
