Anyway, the gtr does it with launch control. Which is a fats persons way to accelerate.

But the Ariel Atom has Launch Control???? Is that a fat mans way around a track?

I think the point of a car like this is to have a track ready car that you can drive home. Not two separate cars but one. If you don't like the car, it is fine, I respect your opinion about the GT-R, but don't downplay what it can do because you don't like it.

Can this beast really go from 0-62 in 2.8 seconds as the car's description history suggests? A car with 1730kg and 550hp? Seems too good to be true. I mean, an Enzo which weighs in at around 1100kg and has 100hp more does it in 3.2 (and that's 0-60, not 0-62) Sure, it has 4WD but would it make THAT much of a difference? Is it yet another way for PD to show bias towards Japanese cars?

PD aren't showing bias towards anyone. Those figures are straight from Nissan.

I do like it, but i prefer other things.

Ariel atom, well any of them, caterham, radicle, caparo T1. They may be all track specials, but where else can you do those speeds? Anyway, at the gtr's price, you can buy something like a caterham for the track, where you can use it, and still buy a decent road car. Anyway, the gtr does it with launch control. Fast is fast, no matter which way you go about it.

Here's a question for someone.
The GT-R has something called a high gear boost controller which bumps up the turbo pressure for a short time (I have read it can give something like 60-80 extra hp), does this figure into the GT-R power listing?
Is it 470-490hp + extra boost or 550hp + extra boost giving temporary 610-630hp figures?

I love these gt-r vs. 911 discussions. Seems like there are always some people who hate that it's now the best car ya can buy. Except if ya live in monaco ofcourse.

I just looked it up and both the skyline and 911 are born around 62. I hope they keep this rivalry going from now on.

Guys... I wonder if somebody has thought what JC has said about 1st gen R35. Nissan claimed 480HP and in US some people who bought and dyno-tested it got 530HP. So, Nissan reduces official power to impress us more. Sure it's very impressive either way, but it's almost sure that 2012 model has 600HP when driven for some distance in order to acheive -3sec 0-60mph. Physics never fail you know.

The engines were all hand built, so the power varied from vehicle to vehicle. A quick search only reveals 2012 models with 530hp, so I don't know where you're getting those first generation figures from. When manufacturers lie about hp, it's typically for insurance reasons. No, you can't just claim they have 10% more hp because they have a faster 0-60 time than most other cars. The launch control in the GT-R allows for almost the fastest possible time off the line, which is why it has such a fast 0-60. Autocar ran it 0-100mph in 8.5 seconds, while the Ferrari F430 (with a 3.55 0-60 and 483hp) goes from 0-100mph in 8.1 seconds. It's all about the launch with the Nissan; most other cars run faster into the three digit range.

I think it's the new "ATTESA" system, which makes it so fast.

ATTESA is the name of their AWD system, which has actually been around for a while, although a different and/or updated version called ATTESA-ETS is what the GT-R uses.

What you need to get a quick 0-60 time:
- LOTS of low end torque
- Launch control
- AWD
- Being a bit heavy is actually an advantage as it prevents wheelspin and allows for as much torque transfer from the axles to the ground as possible. Veyron is perfect example, there are plenty of cars with a greater HP to KG ratio AND AWD but nowhere near the 0-60 time.

GT-R has all of these...

An AWD car loses around 25% of its power through parasitic losses. A dyno showing "530awhp" would suggest that the car is making 662hp. It isn't.

Or...You could buy the GTR, have a good track and road car, and not have to worry about paying for tires, gas, taxes, and insurance on two cars? 💡

I'm all for lightness over power. That's why the MX-5 is one of my favorite cars. But credit where credits due, Nissan knows how to make a car go fast. Just look at the R34. Limited to 276 Horsepower, yet it still kicked incredible ass. It wasn't light either.

I don't think the Skyline and 911 will be rivals for many years to come, if ever. Now, if only Toyota continued the Supra, those two were rivals! Also the Skyline was born in the 50's byPrince Motors. They made the Prince Skyline, which was then marketed with a Nissan badge in the C10 era right around '68.

Skyline fanboy? Nah not at all! :sly:

Take a look at at that Top Gear footage. This was not recorded for the show, it is just James May taking the GTR out because Jeremy raved about it so much. Listen to the chat at then end keeping in mind the collection of cars these guys own and have driven (plus it is a chat between themselves not meant to be aired, it is their natural opinions).

The GTR is just so good its boring.

Not entirely true... IIRC The "Gentlemens agreement" (jishu-kisei) in Japan told car manufacturers to produce cars with no more than 276hp, but car companies went ahead and did it anyway but advertised 276hp on all the "official" statements. I actually believe the R34 was actually bumping through the 300-320hp mark straight off the showroom floor...

And to counter-act the "lighter the better" argument, name any light production 4 seater that can go from 0-100km/h any where near as quick as the GT-R... No 4 seater Porsche can contend. (Glad to be proven wrong here...)

Its not all about acceleration to 62

A ferrari Enzo does 0-62 mph (100kmh) in 3.4 but from 62 mph to 124 mph (200kmh) in 6 seconds , its much faster

2012 GTR does 0-62 mph (100kmh) in 2.8 but from 62 mph to 124 mph (200 kmh) 8 seconds , its slower

GTR's 0-62 of 2.8 doesnt make it faster than all cars with slower 0-62.

Porsche 997.2 turbo S has 4 seats and does the same 0-62 , the only difference is the porsche is faster 62 onwards. Both cars have 4 seats but only small people fit behind.

the reason the horsepower varies on gtr's is because the engines are hand assembled, so no 2 gtr engines are exactly alike.

I know that my friend but if you know a thing about motors and their assembly, the maximum difference between all the engines that were and will be assembled in the same factory is 10HP (-5 and +5 of course). So, Nissan lies about the true HP of this fantastic vehicle. :)

It's an absolute fact that Japanese manufacturers have destroyed the 276HP agreement since the beginning of 1990. Who remembers R32 GTR? 3000GT? Supra RZ? R33? EVO IV? STi Ver. V? ...? All of them had over 300PS. Supra RZ had officially 330PS. R34 had 330 too. Even RX7 FD 98 RS had almost 300PS and NSX 2001 had 290. You cannot keep those motors silent for so many years... they beg to battle!

I thought that was with the limiter removed? I remember that a Skyline Car Club removed the limiter restricting the BHP, that allowed the car to get 320, even 400 something on one case, though I'm not perfectly sure about that.

I never said lighter is always better, I said i preferred lighter cars to heavier cars. The reason for this is I like the more responsive steering, quicker turn in, and in some cars, quicker through the turns.

I prefer handling over acceleration, that's why I like the GTR. Sure it might be good in the acceleration, but the cornering, and the acceleration out of turns is truly amazing compared to other cars in it's class.

Just imagine in the future.

GT6 has standing still grid positions and for the fun of it they allow ya to use launch control, if the car has it. :)

You would be slow off the line unless GT6 is the first GT game to get tyre physics nailed. The fastest way to start in GT is just to floor it.

there are 3 GTR models, the normal one, the facelift one, and an improved version of the facelift with 550hp ... idk about 0-60, but it does the 1/4 mile in high 10s range.. which is just mad... nissan really went anal with everything, just for the GTR pride and ended up pissing over the law of physics. .nasanu is right, its so fast its boring...

it only does fast... its like that one guy in school, goes to public school gets A* for everything, teachers love him, fellow students respect him... but you'll never see him playing knock and run at peoples houses..

This happens on corners to a degree as well improving cornering grip, but in general the GT5 physics engine doesn't seem to recognize this factor well.

My friend just bought the real 2012 Nissan GT-R and holy crap THAT THING IS A BEAST!!!!! We tested it and the 0-60 time was 2.9 seconds. I think I have a pinched nerve in my neck. He also has a 2008 Nissan GT-R that he's had some work done on (since he bought the 2012) and that thing will sprint from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds.
