Well since you added weight and took power from the vette to make them equal, did you add 4wd to the vette or make the GTR 2wd?

Exactly!! Vette is the real king of this matchup.

The thing is both cars are on par, however I think the real buff people have against the Corvette is that on paper it has superior specs, being 700 lbs. lighter and having a slightly more powerful motor. Yet in the real world they're pretty much on par. However the GTR gets its kick from technology, it's basically two sides of the same coin. I wonder what would happen if they made the GTR into a lighter more agile car, or if GM used a DCT and all the other wonderments of technology.

Hi

i did some testing on Deep Forest. Similar to OP, i took the Z06 and GT-R, also I tested the R8 5.2 and Ferrari 458.
I tuned all cars to 524PP, to match the stock PP of the GT-R. All Cars Sports Hard.

Results:
GT-R 1:23,8
Tuned RX7 1:23,9
ZR-1 1:24,0 (after 10 laps)
Tuned Skyline GT-R 1:24,1
R8 5.2 1:24,4
Ford GT 1:24,5
SLS AMG 1:24,6
458 1:25,5
Z06 1:27,7 (room for improvement, but after the first two laps i knew i couldnt beat the GT-R)

Well the GT-R is indeed very fast.

Added some cars.

This whole "bad technology" argument about the Corvette is simply rubbish, refer to Niky's post for details. American technology has never been an issue, especially in the weight saving and size crunching in the Corvette. I can't remember the exact details, but I believe some suspension that Ferrari uses is actually derived from the Corvette. This is the country that landed on the moon with less processing power than a PS3 (except the late 70's and early 80's, but let's try to forget about the Iron Duke Camaro) it's the craftsmanship that gives American cars a bad reputation. Parts are made by the lowest bidder.

That's all besides the point though. Trying to say that a GT-R is better because it's faster or worse because it's less exciting is like trying to say that a Katana is better than a Broadsword because it cuts faster. They're different cars. Stop this immature nonsense!

That would be the Magnetorheological damper which was developed by Delphi.

Japanese Hustle vs American Muscle...... What else is new???

On Nurburgring Nordschleife the Z06 beats the 07 GT-R by a few seconds (stock, sports softs). The gap shrinks against the 09 SpecV. The ZR1 is in another league (as it should be given its performance numbers).

The GT-R is much more forgiving though and waaaaaaay easier to drive hard. You really need to bring you 'A' game in the vette to put down fast lap times.

Just one guys experience.

Agreed. The GT-R is, as GT-Rs have been for a while, full of computers. The Corvette is, as Corvettes have been for a while, fairly straightforward. The result is that the GT-R does a lot of the work for you, the 'vette doesn't, but is capable of more in the right hands.

yeah if you were intending to run the Corvette against a stock GT-R directly after purchasing several hundred pounds of groceries and loading them in the back of the vette.. this test might be relevant..

The tyre selection here will have skewed the result in the Corvettes favour however, as now neither car is really stock. SS is essentially semi-slick, and because of that the 'vette can then put it's power down far better then it would on it's stock rubber whereas the GTR didn't have this problem to begin with and gains little other then cornering speed (and braking) from the tyre change. Numbers would be nice also.

That being said on the Nordschleife the Corvettes should do well due to the long flat out sections of the circuit.

the Z06 i tried on Trial Mountain was a half second behind the GT-R i also tested, i can tell however that with a bit of practice and a perfect lap the Z06 would be right on top of it... the ZR1 destroys them both by about 2 seconds.. the Spec V? I tried it, but didnt even bother trying to finish the race with it, see the way i take Trial Mountain's first section is quick and never dipping below triple digits on the sport softs, as you can tell this method requires the car to communicate to me when its had enough and to back off, the Spec V.. as i found out the hard way, doesnt bother to tell you when its reached its limit, instead its more like oversteer to oiltanker understeer in about a split second, followed by a head on collision with the wall.. the Spec V i was using is brand new too.. the Corvette is definitely more fun because it at least tries to involve you in the experience, the GT-R wont let you know youre screwing up until it goes head first into the turn two wall

I tried my hand at the comparison today, and bought all-new cars to use. Since the Nordschleife was the manufacturers' chosen battleground, I chose to use it as well. I chose to drive all cars stock as they came in the game, save for an oil change. No adjustments were made to the brake bias. All cars were driven for a single lap, with one exception.

Drove the Z06 first. Bit of a handful, and even with aids on I could tell that it wanted to get away from me at times. Great straight line speed, and the cornering was good when the car and I agreed on a driving line.

ZR1 went next, and it was more of the same. Might have felt a little more under control. Of course, the speeds were massive. Not sure what my top speed actually was, but I remember seeing 196mph. I usually don't drive cars this fast in GT5, but it listened to me and we got through in one piece.

The GT-R was the third car, and aside from the rear coming out under hard braking, it was fine. Did what I wanted it to. Felt quick, until I passed Galgenkopf and hit the straight. Unsurprisingly, top speed was in the upper 170s, nowhere near that of the Z06, let alone the ZR1.

Moving to the Spec-V sweetened the pot quite a bit. None of the braking nervousness, and the handling was even better. Confidence-inspiring doesn't begin to describe it. I was surprised to reach 181mph, a much better top speed than the standard GT-R, although I did get a bit greedy with the throttle.*

The Viper ACR came as a last-minute addition. My hands were already hurting, and I had almost shut off the console, but I decided to give the ACR a try. I'm glad I did. The ACR was a nice medium between the 'You can do this!' handling of the Spec-V and the 'Lerooooyyy Jeeennnkinns!' straight-line urge of the Corvettes. Top speed was 187mph. I could tell by the way the car felt that it was going to be a seriously hot lap.

Lap times
Viper ACR.......7'32.160
Corvette ZR1..7'37.345
GT-R Spec-V...7'38.656(*7'41.1xx on first lap, with an accident after the bridge)
Corvette Z06..7'44.097
GT-R..............7'44.699

Conclusion: All cars came stock with Sport Hard tires, though in the real world, their equipment is quite different. Although the ACR easily posted the best lap, its top speed was lacking, so the war was clearly won in the corners. The ACR's huge advantage and the ZR1's added control over the Z06 leads me to believe that PD really did their homework with this game. The ACR has better tires than the others in the real world, and has added downforce to help with cornering at the expense of top speed. The ZR1's magnetic dampers are superior to the Z06's conventional parts, and proved to be a boon to the Z06 as part of the new Z07 package. The Spec-V's reduced weight, beefier brakes and improved tires help make the car even more confidence-inspiring than the standard GT-R.

When we're frustrated with standard cars, shadows and the UI, sometimes it takes the little things to remind us that this game had some serious thought go into it.

Numbers would be nice also.

lap times were along these lines (stock, oil change, sport softs, Nordschleife)

ZR1 - 6:58
Z06 - 7:04
SpecV - 7:05
GT-R - 7:07

i don't have exact numbers at the moment.
