What?! Really? Got a source to read a bit about it?
In French, but basically, the guy spearheading the project was out at Spa gathering info. Tests are planned for the end of the year, and if it goes well, the first cars should run in 2015.

Thanks for the info, mate.

The World Challenge Cadillac GT program is, understandably, weighing its options heading forward. With the CTS-V Coupe reaching the end of it's production life and the FIA GT3 cars starting to rule the roost, 2015 will be the last year for the old guard Coupes.

I suspect Cadillac could go with an ATS-V GT3/GTD program, with customer entries in TUSC and possibly Europe and PWC, with a continued factory backed effort in PWC.

Now that would be something. I hope they choose to do that, would be cool to see a Cadillac GT3 car.

Since Callaway will have a limited debut the GT3 C7 next year, I suppose that one could be sent over here to compete...

I wish GM would do a customer program like what Ford does. They could get more of their cars out there, and actually get a little ROI out of it.

As none of the previous Callaway Z06.R's came over here, I doubt they would arrive now. Callaway's base of operations for it's motorsport's program are in Germany, which is why the majority of the time you see the Z06.R's on track is either in the ADAC GT series or VLN. They don't have the money to compete across Europe like they did in the early days of GT3 before Audi, BMW and Mercedes showed up with their drivers, so they stick close to maximize their support program for customers by keeping things in and around Germany as much as possible.

And if GM is even sniffing around the idea of Cadillac Racing becoming a GT3 program, then you can bet top dollar that they won't allow Callaway 'vette's in the US competing with their own factory cars. Not that Callaway would put so much investment in to even risk that chance, anyways.

If GM were to stoop to blocking a private team from using a Callaway C7 GT3 in the US against a Cadillac GT3 car, that makes them look bad.

Then again, that is something GM would actually do...

It's simply not a viable option. Racing teams prefer to have support and assistance from the constructors, so a Callaway Vette in the US is very unlikely, because Callaway likely only receives money from GM to support the Vettes in Europe, assuming they receive any money from GM at all. So any team looking to run one of the cars in the US would want their support, and they're simply too small and too far away to assist them.

And they won't create a base of operations here because the Pratt & Miller Corvette's (as well as the Corvette DP's) already cover all of the marketing bases for Corvette's in racing. Adding another one to another class would only further confusion about which is which and would not benefit Callway, GM, Chevy or the teams in any way, so it wont happen.

EDIT: On an entirely different subject, a number of commenters in the Sportscar365 section state that the 911/991 GT3 R has been cancelled. I can't find any evidence to the contrary, so what might their source be?

It was discussed during spa 24, they want to focus on the 919 project.

Not that I don't trust you, but do you know where I might be able to find this information to read it for myself?

Re listen to the spa 24 hr race I'm sure the podcast will be there to download.

Porsche's confusing me, those old GT3 (spec) 911's are still decent, but they're getting old. At least there's quite a few on the market. At this rate, Project CARS may have predicted the future with someone like RUF making the 911's GT3 entry. But you never know.

On a 2015 Mustang GT3, the usual GT4/Conti/PWC car absolutely. However, I don't know if they will make a GT3 version. The only rumours I've heard are about a GTE car for Le Mans.

Oh how I missed those RX-8s...

And in case anyone missed it:
http://sportscar365.com/imsa/tusc/elkins-adresses-class-structure-evolution-for-2016-beyond/

The only current GTD car caught out is the Porsche 911 GT America, which was specifically built for TUDOR Championship competition, although it’s understood Porsche is already starting work on a new 991-based GT3 R that would be ready for 2016.

So the 991 GT3-R is back on the table, and it's got TUSC to thank for it, it seems.

And in other news:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/115189

Ratel has proposed a "World Cup" of GT3 cars, that would run with International teams in an end-of-year event between December and February. The original idea was to invite teams from National series to participate (so ADAC GT vs. TUSC GTD vs. Brazilian GT vs. Aus GT + Blancpain Teams most likely) for the greatest mixture of cars and drivers seen, but none of the National Championships that were approached tendered the idea, so it's now moved to the Nationality idea.

This seems to be a revision of his original idea from late last year, which involved the best teams and drivers from a specific series racing together, now switching to the best teams and drivers from a specific country, etc.

As stated in the article, one of the biggest qualms would be what tires would be run on. And a unique tire seems to be the best idea to ensure no team has an advantage. Though where a unique tire would come from is a mystery. An alternative would be to run open tire specs.

Interesting idea and one that I'd love to see since it'd be something truly unique in motor tracing. My only wish would be that they add a 4-6 hour endurance race to the schedule as well as the two sprint races.

This could open a huge and passionate discussion about which who would represent each country driver-wise and manufacturer-wise.

I'm pretty sure Italy would be a Ferrari run by AF Corse, and Australia would likely be the Erebus Mercedes. It would be awesome to see the Swiss Team Maserati make a show at entering.

Huge question marks surround most of the other developed countries though. There's no shortage of teams from the US, UK, Germany, Belgium, France and Spain that could supply good drivers, cars and teams (though the latter three and likely the US would be using foreign marques).

That GT3 world cup idea has me excited. America should run the BMW Z4 GT3... :D . Here's what I was thinking with the current cars and known to be available next season:
America, Dodge Viper
Britain, Aston Martin Vantage
Germany, Mercedes SLS
Italy, Ferrari 458
France, Mclaren 650S
Japan, Nissan GTR
Belgium, Porsche 911
Spain, Lamborghini Gallardo
Sweden, Ginetta G56
Russia, Audi R8
Canada, Bentley Continental GT
Brazil, BMW Z4
Argentina, Lexus RCF
Mexico, Chevy Camaro
Finland, Audi R8
Netherlands, BMW Z4
Austrailia, Nissan GTR
New Zealand, Ginetta G56
Austria, Porsche 911
Switzerland, Mclaren 650S
South Korea, Lexus RCF
Dubai, Bentley Continental GT

Course that's literally probably nothing like what it would be lol.

*Revised. If everyone had two cars this would be a 44 car field. O_O

Sorry my inner Z4 fan came out. :D Actually depending on the (if it happened) debut of the series, it could be either the Viper or the proposed Cadillac ATS-V GT3. And Brazil would run the Z4 because of that team in Blancpain.

*Actually the Z4 for America thing may not be so far fetched...they did support our Bobsled team at the Winter Olympics lol.

I don't think Australia would run a GTR. We don't have one racing in AusGT at all.
Maybe the SLS, as Snaeper stated, or one of Tony Quinn's cars.

Lowndes (?) was in a Ferrari for Spa 24 wasn't he?

Good point, and the Erebus guys maybe.

America should have the C7 when it becomes a GT3 but the Viper is a nice place holder
I wish, the team wouldn't be based in America because it'd have to be a Callaway Vette' and that's as we know in Germany (unless GM supported it). Most likely that Caddy GT3 car in the rumour mill if not the Viper. I still think BMW would not be far fetched. They make Z4's here for God's sake lol, Turner Motorsport couldn't run it. :D

I really wish they'd do this, it'd be epic. A world GT3 cup series...using racing colors of your country  .

Like A1GP which didn't last long...not sure how this would last all that long

Maybe longer than that...it is GT3 afterall, therefor less expensive. Besides Ratel is smart enough, if he thinks it'll work he'll try and do it, and vise verse.
