Ive read (a while ago) a couple times that the PS2 has both PSX and PS2 processors and it doesnt emulate it.

I didn't mean to make that as much of a clear cut statement as it was. From what I heard the PS2 had a PSX processor in it to allow it to run PSX games. I doubt the entirety of the PSX architecture is in there, so some of it would be emulated, but I thought the processor itself was in there. If it just ran on the PS2 chip that'd explain how they pull off the smoothing effects, I thought perhaps it just delegated some drawing duties because initially the PS2 graphics processor was a separate chip, I remember hearing they found a way to merge the two a while into production.

Believe it or not, I'm going to say that the GT2 pic is NOT emulated, and here's why.

Did you know that you can play PS1 games on the PS2? Of course you do. But get this. Did you know that you can play PS1 games on the PS2 and change the graphic quality and disc-reading speed? If you didn't, I did. And there are some noticable elements from the games I tested with. I used Gran Turismo 2 and set the texture quality to smooth. Turns out, everything does seem to look smoother, from the cars, to the track, and things like that. On some of the 2D sprites, you'll note some little boxes around the trees. Apparentely, they've been made to appear more "3D" I guess. But no real effect. The game won't look any better, but the texturing will be smoother. So, that's why I think the pic is not emulated.
Sounds pretty believable but I tried that on the PS2 and I hardly noticed any difference.

The worst thing about gt3 compared to gt2 was the lack of hp limits or restrictions in general. To maintain satisfying gameplay it is necessary to implement this feature on a larger scale again. Remember that it is still a game. I like games to be hard. I like to earn rare cars with some difficulty, and not get it with a Happy Meal, like in gt3. It's not that these limits will inhibit you to play the track you want. Just go to the arcade section(or something similar).

Second of all, these limits are necessery online. How could I otherwise race a mini against others with the same class car without being bothered by a noob with an escudo.

A game has to be challenging. Without restrictions in gt4, no challenge. If someone wants all the cars without working for it: buy an action replay.;)
