lol, i have. and gt3 is like drifting with a car with crappy steering response. gt4 is closer to real life than gt3 while still being off a bit. I can make comments because i have the experience and have heard comments on professional drivers comparing the game to real life.. even though it may be little since i am only 18. :P whats with the bold print? angry your wrong about gt3 being more realistic? i'm not repeating myself again. Of course drifting in real life is easier. doesnt take a genious to figure that out if you've ever stepped into a decent rear wheel drive car with decent power. :P

I'm almost insulted. kinda pissed actually.

*GASP*!!!!!!! If real life drifting is easier than drifiting in gt4 then man i must be fricken good in drifting in real life! yay now i just need my license and a rwd car and i could be pulling some drifts i do in gt4 :)

*dances*because i can initiate/control drifts in gt4 no problems* ;)

I have to admit. i've never gotten sideways at over 70mph. plus drifting is expensive as hell. I very rarely go to any trackdays. You would be suprized how expensive drifting is for tires and just maintaining the damn car.....

I agree with both sides of this debate...GT3 has much more realistic physics IMO; i.e. for doing donuts and the like. I think what people don't realize is that drifting is doing a drawn out, high-speed donut...all the same rules apply; there's just higher momentum involved. I was disappointed by the fact that in GT4 I couldn't just hit my rear biased brakes to lock the back up and get the tail out...that's something you can do in any car in real life. Even e-braking in GT4 will not start a drift.

However, after practicing for some time I've found that it is indeed possible to drift, and I have a very wide range of drift cars, from the humdrum S13/S14 (I must have all the turbo ones) to stuff like the turbo "GS300" and the SC430. It's not as easy to initialize a long drift (i.e. the long S-turn on Midfield, the large half circle at Apricot Hill, the long turn on Tsukuba) but I've found that if you have a close ratio transmission and you slow down to maybe the last 3/4 of 3rd gear you should be able to drift through them in a well setup car. Techniques that involve braking don't really work at low speeds, but when you're coming from a super high speed an e-brake will prob. spin you out...

Anyways there's definitely validity on both sides of the field; but to me drifting in GT4 is better. It's much more of a challenge, and you have a crapload more cars to choose from and tune. GT3 drifting is so easy it's not even fun to me anymore...

The only thing I miss about GT3 is that the camera stays at the same angle relative to the TRACK, not to the CAR...meaning if you're drifting you can see exactly how much slip angle you're getting, making it easier to correct. With GT4 you kind of have to go on blind faith and intuition, which comes with practice. Also, I have yet to find a car that can drift on anything more than N2's consistently like I could in GT3...but that's all minor I guess. Anyways good luck with the drifting and keep practicing; it'll be fulfilling wen you finally get it down.

Weird..
In GT4 if you really know how to well unbalance a car, it's possible to drift with low HP cars. I can drift a bit with the Cappucino in lan mode with Xlink.(Note that you can't tune the car & only choose the tires).

Hmmm....
It might be easier, but the real you in real life will be on the wheel. The feeling of the G-force along with the eyes seeing yourself on the road is really different. Like I've written in previous post, the front tires doesn't understeer while drifting. If never you try controlling a real car like the way you do in GT4, you might end up crashing with a real FR car! :sly:

There are 2 possibilities;
1. You might end up crashing into the inside wall due to late countersteering.
2. While countersteering during the drift, the car regain control & you will run smashing the exit outside wall.

Pretty scary huh?

The drifting might be more realistic in GT4 compare to GT3, but it's really far from real life drifting. Easier doesn't mean it's the same! :P

The drifting techinics i use to drift in GT3 and GT4 are totally different. I have to play more with the suspension setup way more in GT4 than in GT3. In my opinion, i think GT3 is more fun to drift in, but realistically, of course GT4, plus its so much more tougher. I also tend to see people shove on econo n1 or whatever tires on their drift machines. I tried using them in GT4, and found it rediculously hard to drift. NOt like real life at all. I always use the Medium sport tires, which seem more realistic, and of course, more difficult and more control. You don't get stupid burnouts just by stepping on the accel.

Being actually inside a car and drifting is a whole different thing, there are thing that matter in real life that dont matter in a game, just remember that.

I hope you mean "balance a car"... There isn't really any situation where you want an unbalanced car...

I am really starting to love the GT4 physics... I just made some amazing links last night, that I used to do in GT3... So I know everything that was possible in GT3, is very possible in GT4... It just takes a bit more time to achieve... GT4 has some issues (understeer/oversteer physics need tweaking, and the tire physics aren't perfect), but for the most part, I feel it is pretty realistic... I am having more fun with GT4 now, then I ever had with GT3... It's more challenging, and thus more rewarding...

:dunce: don't you guys hint sarcasm

lol Me thinks drifting IRL should be harder :dopey: there is a added clutch involved but idk

and if you guys say it's easier then i would get the hang of it quick.

oh yah it's expensive to drift but buy some junk tires like those spares and use that for drifting. My friend got a pair for his rear wheels $50 each. 👍

yes, the clutch and h shifter and not over revving do add a few more things to worry about....

lol, That last part wasn't directed at you. It was directed at people who judge realism when they have nothing to base it on. And they know who they are.
The GT3 thing is just your opinion and I have no problem with that. Everyone has a different style and I guess mine is more usable on GT3 and yours is more usable on GT4. Therefore I think GT3 is more realistic and you go with GT4. And the steering response would have been better if GT3 worked with 900 mode on the DFP. But that technically isn't part of the physics engine, though it would make GT3 ALOT more realistic. That's the only thing I'm giving GT4 over GT3.

One thing no game can recreate is the fear factor and G-Forces invoved.
I love clutch kick, so in a way clutch makes it easier for me. And I CANNOT shift while drifting like some people. The G-Force knocks my hand to the wrong gear most of the time. Also my rear tires cost me between 40-50 dollars a set.

Skypowereds13, thats a long name, im going to call you s13 for this message. I have never heard of this site, and I'm very happy to have found this. Now I can let it all out and find my answers. First of all, I love cars, since the day I was born. I have a brother 3 years older than me. I was born 1988, and my father has always been into cars. He has raced/tuned and fixed up cars for money in Jamaica. When he moved to Canada, he had bought a 1988 mustang, now this thing is still in mint condition. Me and my brother grew up watching him test and tune his mustang, and sooner or later we followed his footsteps. Now I know so much about cars, and the ONLY GAME THAT IS REALISTIC IS GRAN TURISMO!

Starting from ps1 to now ps2. GT1,GT2,GT3,GT4. I have all of them. Right now the best one is GT3. Seeing as how I love muscle cars and rear wheel drive cars, the reason being is, you cannot beat a rear wheel drive car, the physics behind racing is a rear wheel drive car. If you were to race a front wheel drive car, you would get quite frustrated with the understeer. Anyways, yes rear wheel drive cars are the only type of drivetrain that will allow you to truely DRIFT. I discovered the drifting technique in GT2, the one for PS1, on midfield raceway. I was about 13 or 14 years old. I am now 18.

Anyways, once I got ps2 and gt3, I tried drifting and it was quite hard to adapt to the new feel of the car and physics behind the game. In real life i can somewhat drift, not like the real japanese crazy guys who drift like crazy, but I can hold a nice corner. I mean I know what it's all about, and it's real hard. Anyways when I finally got the hang of it, I could drift with any rear wheel drive car, and I still can. Then GT4 had come out and I was dying to get it, I bought it for 70 bucks canadian, and as soon as I had a decent car to drift with, I think it was a nissan 270r or something, I forget, but the point is, I COULDN'T! I had gotten so angry I almost broke my controller.

I tried everyting from going to the options and trying to make it a "real" drift car, POSI diff, and the tires, the weight transfer! Man, nothing worked, it was useless. One key thing I noticed was the donuts. I am not trying to brag, but I am quite intelligent, might say im a nerd... haha, but yes in gt3, when you do donuts, it's like a whirling effect, like the physics is real good, just like real life. When you do donuts in gt4, the car does perfect circles. How on earth can you do perfect circles? There is no real car that can do that, unless a 4wheel drive car, but even so it's still kind of hard. Thats when I knew the game just sucked, because when you take that aspect out of gran turismo, you just dont wanna play no more. So many times I have tried giving it another chance, and guess what, I just get mad and eventually pop in gt3 and drift till the morning. Me and my brother were so mad it's not even funny.

The good things would be this about gt4, EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT GAME IS AMAZING, except the driving, the one most important thing about the game. Anyways, another bad thing that you mentioned s13 guy, you said the weight transfer or something, you know the little meter that moves left to right, when you jerk your car left or right, weight transfer, i think its called. Anyways you are kinda right it's pretty kewl, but it is very fake though. In a real car if you were to turn fully right then fully left and keep doing that, YOU DON'T WIPE OUT, you may fish tail and the swinging of the back will increase, but in gt4, it's like almost computerized. If you try doing FEINT, like maybe, ONE, TWO, THREE, you just literally do a 360, it's so fake! I honestly want to like go to the headquarters of GRAN TURISMO or whatever it is called, and show them everything and what they need to improve, I mean I know what real is, and I'm sure some of you do as well, and all I need is like a Japanese guy who drifts in real life, and I can talk to him and tell him what is bad and im 100% sure he would agree with me. I'm just so furious because cars is my life, and gran turismo is my life. I have ps2, and its original, no chip or anything like that. I have only 3 games. GT3,GT4, and Tourist Trophy. All made by the same people. Please, can somebody answer all of my questions and comment on anything you would like. The tracks in GT4 are amazing, and are dying to be drifted on. I am new to this gtplanet thing, I dont even know how it works, and I hope someone reads this and hears my cries. I guess you can email me at dusty_bc@hotmail.com. I WOULD LOVE TO TALK TO SOMEONE WHO IS AMAZING AT THIS GAME AND KNOWS QUITE A BIT ABOUT CARS.
PEACE.
