My first thread started, so I searched "GT4 AI" & "AI" before posting... sorry if it's doubled an old existing thread.
As it now has been confirmed that the online portion of GT4 has been 'delayed' some people are very disappointed, as it was this way they felt they were going to get competition as in previous examples of GT the AI was rather 'tame' (lets say).
Now, though it hasn't been confirmed, it still seems that the AI for GT4 might still be on the 'easy beat' side. This point maybe seen in the first page of "New screens Suzuka" thread, where it can be seen twice, whilst a screenshot of B-Spec mode, that the AI cars can be a little or alot behind after 5 and 9 laps of the Nurburgring respectfully. Keep in mind though, it's a long track and thats a few km's into the race.
This got me to thinking about the AI.
PD, it really cannot be argued, has put *ALOT* of research into designing and programming the cars to perform and behave as close to real-life as possible. As you continue throughout the Simulation they now kept track of your stats, and how well/badly you are performing in relation to the games AI.
Surely PD is able to create a modifier for the AI and even AI Car Selection, dependent on how well you are performing relative to the AI.
Thus when you're running a 90% win ratio, for example, dependent on what car YOU use to choose race a specific race with, the Computer AI, will select 1 car slightly worse (based on what PD knows the cars are capable of thru their extensive testing) 2 cars of equal ability, 1 slightly quicker, and 1 reasonably quicker. BUT have these cars perform closer to their "on-the-limit" potential dependant on your win-ratio...
The higher or lower you perform against this new AI will depend on how much harder it will continue to get or how much it will relax to allow you to complete the game.
Conceivably you could be running a race against 5 cars all quicker than you, running at 95% of their potential because you've got a 99% win ratio, or something. Conversely because you've got a 50% win ratio you might be the second quickest car (potentially) and the AI is at 80% or something...
I'm sure you all get the lines I'm thinking along though I might not be explaining it properly.
While online will ultimately give more competition in the end, it will bring those who 'bump', cut corners (where possible), or wall ride into the equation and that will create additional gripes. For all the disappointment (for some) online play being delayed could be a blessing in disguise...
* 3 problems above addressed... (shortcuts, wall riding, randomly give punctures of something) (bumping too much makes pitting necessary or something)
* Possibility of larger feilds, maybe 6 increased to 12 or more
* More debugging of glitches and performance
Anyhow, if the AI somehow gave you a REAL contest in where you may have to repeat a race a couple of times, with slightly less competitive AI cars each time, untill you finally win I'm sure would please alot of players...
Any thoughts???
