Mine (PAL version) is 5.27 gig (5,660,540,928 bytes). I've got no idea what you're doing wrong, but it must be something. Have you tried patching your version? Maybe it works anyway.

i'm just loading DVDcrypter and telling it to decrypt

i even got the newest version, and it still makes a 4.94 gig file out of my GT4 DVD

Hi guys,

I need some help. I've just spend a few hours trying to get GT4 onto the PS2 harddrive. This is the first time that I've done anything like this, but I did a lot of reading on the suggested sites before I started, and I followed the guide step by step.

I was certain that I had the right GT4 image to copy to the harddrive, because it all went smooth enough 'till now. This is what happens when I try to use winhiip to transfer the image file to the harddrive:

-Winhiip recognises the PS2 harddrive (thats not the problem) and I can see the list of games installed on it
-I click on "add image file(s)"
-I select the image "gt4_HDD.iso". When I click on "start", it gives me an error. "Unrecognised image file format" :(

Now I thought that an iso is an image file?

Is it possible to tell where I went wrong? The "gt4_HDD.iso" file is 5,486,121 kB large. And I'm using the PAL version. During the procedure of creating the ISO I was also using all the PAL files. Did everything to the letter.

Thanks!

EDIT: don't know if it matters, but I'm using HDLoader, not advance

Hmmm, I've never heard of that problem before. Have you tried to transfer the original, unpatched image to the PS2s HDD? I know it won't work, just to see if that one will transfer properly. If that works, you should begin from scratch, ripping a new ISO from your GT4 DVD and do the patching again.

If you get the same error message try to transfer another image. This way, you can localize the source of the failure to see if it's a general problem or only appearing with the GT4 image.

Good luck!

thanks, I'll have to try that tomorrow though.

I just used whatever settings DVD encryptor had in it. But I know for a fact that my brother has been playing around with the settings as he uses it for movies. I'll look into that..

Any other suggestions are welcome, of course. I'm signing off for tonight.

PS2NFO.com is up again (was down last night for testing), and now I'm reading stuff like:

"Yes, if youve got the pal-version you load zajco.iml instead of gt4_hdd.iml. You need to have all files on a NTFS drive. The final size of the image will be 5.23GB (5 618 059 264 byte)"

This might explain why my image files doesn't work? In the guide it tells you to use the gt4_hdd.iml, and it never mentions anything about PAL users have to use zajco.iml instead.

Anyways, going to try that now. If you need some more info on the whole proces, especially of you're stuck and want to know if other people had the same problem, then check this thread http://www.ps2nfo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299&page=1&pp=15.

@ RaVeNlI666: Took me a while to find it using google. Also read the link I posted above if you want more info on where to find it. Sadly, I don't have the file anymore.

EDIT: got it to work 👍

any news on wheather or not there is a straight forward auto patch for the gt4 iso yet?

This is all still very new. I'm sure that they'll try to make it more automated, though. You can always give this method a try, you'll get it to work eventually.

"GT4L1.VOL" is supposed to be in the same directory as the rest of the files. So, when you extract the second layer, you must extract it to "c:\test", as the folder "GRANTURISMO4" will automatically be created. If the folder already exists, the file will be dumped into that folder.

So when you're done with Apache, you should have the folder "c:\test\GRANTURISMO4" with all files in it, and without a folder named "GRANTURISMO4" inside.

Cheers,

Thanks for the clarification Interceptor and civicgsir. GT4 works. Now if I could only get my laser to read the boot disc. :yuck:

Get a DMS4pro - It'll boot a HD advance lookalike off ROM... ;)

anyone know if a new iso is available yet... there is NO way i can make room on my pc hard drive for three gt4 iso's....im not sure i did everything correct and i dont want to delete my original iso cause i dont have a dvd drive to re rip it........
anyone out there with the fixed iso should post a torrent

The torrent would be ILLEGAL and wouldn't be posted on GTP anyway.

I can't get the command prompt to work, i keep getting C:\test\GRANTURISMO4 is not recognoised as an internall or external command, operable program or batch file

Can anyone help?

This happens when you do what exactly?

well, i've done as the instruction calls for, but i get unrecognised file format when trygin to load it onto ps2 drive.

the iso file (gt4_hdd.iso) opens correctly in Apache2 and even in WinRAR...

i'm using a NTSC game.

edit: what tool did you guys use to rip the image from the original game DVD?

I used DVD decrypter.

I don't understand why I keep getting path errors, even though the damn files are in the specified directory. This seemed to be the major problem for me at step 5 as the hex I got looked completeley different from the hex in the document. Then it boots, but doesn't get past the disclaimer screen.

What the hell am I doing wrong here?

I'm using the PAL version

Hmmm ... mine looked a little different, as I did the PAL and the tutorial has pictures from the NTSC. But the values I had to erase were exactly the same as the ones on the pictures. If yours are different, are you sure all three patches were executed properly?

The patches that worked correctly were.

corepal.gt4.ppf
ioprp300.ppf
sces517.ppf

I think I had problems with the CORE.GT4. I mean the process after the ppf patching.

You mean repacking the CORE.GT4. Have you used all the options for gzip properly then? Did you get any error messages?

I kept getting file not found etc, although it seemed to work after a while. All I did was copy paste the command (without the speech marks) directly from the document.

Is it possible to post the correctly patched core.gt4 file? Edit: The Pal version.

Well the file wouldn't work if I didn't own a legitimate copy of the game.

Edit: Never mind, I think i've got it by george. Hold on. :dopey:

Edit: Yup got it working. I think it was my lazy arse copy pasting those commands into the window. I just typed them as you would and it all worked.

It runs nice and fasst.

Yeah you can get the iso in dvd5 or dvd9 format (I got both just in case)
Both are patched and working. To be honest I am amazed that it took as long as it did. Guess in a way its good.....longer it takes to copy a game, the better sales will be of GT4.

Not really sure if I can post on here where to get it.....but if you PM me maybe I can help out (I may require a picture of your purchased game :) ).

I gotta get a HD now, my copy of GT4 has a tiny scratch that results in a disc read error 50% of the time when I exit a race. :(

Any suggestions as to which software is better for PAL - HD Advance or USB eXtreme?

And also, what HDD are most people using?
I read up about using a HDD, and a few sites say that some models don't work, and also some programs (like HDLoader) only recognise up to 127GB.

I was thinking of grabbing a 200GB Maxtor drive. I only found out about using HDDs with the PS2 a day ago from a friend. It's a great idea, since I've already lost 3 PS2 games at the hands of my little cousins. Last time they were around, my Burnout 2 disc was covered in Fanta, chocolate, scratches, and what seemed to me to be honey :scared:

if you use more than 127GB, you will need HDAdvance 2.0
which will support it ... but it always do some research first
i am using 120 Maxtor, and I still have more than half of it empty by now
just think how many games you gonna put in
