The torrent would be ILLEGAL and wouldn't be posted on GTP anyway.

I can't get the command prompt to work, i keep getting C:\test\GRANTURISMO4 is not recognoised as an internall or external command, operable program or batch file

Can anyone help?
they didn't provide correct instructions for dos

long file names get shortened like this grantu~1

so type in: cd grantu~1
to get to that directory

c:\test\grantu~1

That depends on your Windows version though. My Win2k had no problems displaying the complete file and folder names.

if you use more than 127GB, you will need HDAdvance 2.0
which will support it ... but it always do some research first
i am using 120 Maxtor, and I still have more than half of it empty by now
just think how many games you gonna put in

How much space does one game roughly take?

I found a site with a PS2 HDD compatibility list http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/
It seems the Maxtor HDDs are a good choice

I've got a PAL GT4, HDLoader with a samsung 40gb HD... Followed the instructions and have been playing it off the hard disk for about 4 days now..... no problems.... :) :) :) :) :)

i've done it too.. but i actually got a problem x_x when trying to load the first of the driving missions while playing off the hdd the game just freezes. i had to switch back to the dvd to do that mission. nothing else till now, am i the only one?

Works fine for me. Maybe you should try to rip and patch the game again.

Race Idiot
It runs nice and fasst.
With many thanks to the Interceptor, I've had the NTSC UC version working great from the HDD for several days now, but in all honesty, I haven't noticed any dramatic improvement in loading times versus reading from the disk. I did notice a big difference in GT3 when running it from the hard drive, but not so much in GT4. But then again, maybe it is just me.

i havent played gt3 so i couldn't compare..

Hello,
So I have done a PAR2 file which converts the orignal GT4 PAL ISO (5.660.540.928
bytes), made by DVDdecrypter, into the ready to dump ISO. I did even an SFX which executes the patch automatically.

So, no extraction using apache, no hexediting, no command-lines.

Patches included(thx toolboy):
-CORE.GT4 (PAL, HDD)
-SCES_517.19
-IOPRP300.IMG
-Flattening

Procedure:
----------
1)Make an ISO of GT4 PAL with DVDdecrypter.
2)Run the Patch, and point to the folder where the ISO is located.
3)When Quickpar has finished verifying, then hit Repair.
3)Dump the resulting ISO to your PS2 HDD using you favorite app. (WinHIIP,
PS2 HD Handiness, hdl_dumb, HDL_dump_server, ...)

That's all. Hope this helps.

I have posted the files on an other forum, because uploading big files here, is not really possible. www.ps2-scene.org. You have to register, do download anyting, but its a great forum.

Wow, cool. Does it work with the NTSC version as well?

... or in other words: no!

This week i am gonna try to get GT4 working from HD, but i'll need a tool like hdadvance to get a PS2 drive working. Then am able to do the rest...

Till then i'll be watching this thread closely 👍

With the original DIY patch with hexediting i got file format invalid when using winhiip and PAL GT4, i am trying luzifer's autopatch now. wish me luck :-)

I've noticed the main difference is between the transitions between menus it's instantaneous. Also if you click on the start race button you don't get a loading screen, it goes straight to the race. Although the load between GT World and the race seems simmilar, although it doesn't seem to load. Although after a week of using the hdd you don't notice the loading times. I get impatient at the loading times when i'm playing a game of the disc.

Oh well, at least I can leave the ps2 on for weeks without the fear of the DVD drive killing itself. Although the HDD could fail, which would be just as bad.

has anyone notice that the game freezed when saving replay? every other aspect of the game rund fine of the hdd, except when saving a replay after a race. is this only me, or do you have simmilar situation?

Do you get the invalid file format warning when trying to transfer the modified GT4 image back to your harddrive? If so, then I had the same problem (I also have the PAL version). If you use the DIY patch with the PAL version, then you musn't follow step 4 AND step 6 as they are described in the guide. I had forgotten about step 6, and it resulted in the file format error.

This is what it says in the PAL winzip file:

IN STEP 4 OF MY TUTORIAL, EXECUTE THESE STEPS **INSTEAD OF WHAT IS IN STEP4** IN THE TUTORIAL...Do all other steps as normal...!!

1. Execute: (type these at the DOS prompt)

“applyppf3 a core.gt4.elf corepal.gt4.ppf”
“applyppf3 a sces_517.19 sces517.ppf"
“applyppf3 a ioprp300.img ioprp300.ppf

IN STEP 6, PART 3....When you open up IML2ISO, open the file "zajco.iml" instead of GT4_HDD.iml...this will re-build the correct ISO with the PAL file sizes..(you cannot use the GT4_HDD.iml file, that only works for the NTSC version.)

Again, this is for the manual patch. Hope you get it to work!

I just discovered that I've got the same problem: I was trying to save a replay of a license test. When saving, the progress bar slowed down and then stopped at about 75%. I left the Playstation like this for about 10 minutes, but nothing happened.

Now I wonder if that's a general bug when playing GT4 off the HDD, or if only a few people have that problem. It'd be nice if a few guys that have the game running from HDD could test this. 👍

I just did a replaysave from Sunday Cup.. No problems whatsoever....

[Edit:] Tried again after next race - still good !...

[Edit2:] Nope... Still good after the 3rd save...

Are you loading HDL from your memory card through MC Exploit? If you are, then it's the patches you've made onto the orginal HDL elf core. remove all the patch or use a clean hdloader elf and you should be ok.

i got my version of GT4 working from a HD, and i can tell you it works real fine.
i also got rid off that "red clock"who wich was annoying me.

So faster loading time's, no red clock anymore. am one happy nOOb

Im using Maxtor 30 GB and GT4 NTSC works fine with HDL

any ideas about LAN game problem? I didn't fine any solution yet...

As far as I know, HDL simply doesn't allow the use of the network adaptor. There is no online gaming ability when playing any other game with the HDL. And since GT4 also uses the network adaptor for its LAN play, it won't work.

Thats not strictly true....
You can't use the hard drive with the network adapter when using games like fifa and tiger woods as they use DNAS.
But games that have a 'lan party' mode like gt4 should work fine.
