GT4 delayed to 2005 ?

"It's no secret that 2004 is one of the biggest years for software in the history of the market, but we've been hearing rumblings that the season could get somewhat softened with probable delays for Sony's pair of heavy hitters Killzone and Gran Turismo 4, along with Capcom's own big actioner Devil May Cry 3.

But why the delays in the first place? In the case of GT4 and DMC3, the games simply may not be ready yet. While Killzone's delay could likely be blamed on the huge lineup of PS2 software already planned for the winter months and the probability that it may have to go head to head with Halo 2 on the store shelves. With all three games currently scheduled to appear sometime near the end of the year, it could be a big blow for the Christmas market if the rumor of delays turns out to be true."

Especially since in my eyes GT3 was dissapointing. Arg.

/Keeps fingers crossed. If it is delayed I'd want it to be near perfect when its finally released (including all the little details) & not "Oh well this would have been impressive if it had been out a year ago, now its just 'nice'"
 
I am in one respect dissapointed if it does get delayed any further, but then again i am not dissapointed. The delays usually mean they are either fine tuning aspects of it or adding more to it, who knows, but im excited about its release none the less.
 
In another thread everyone is knocking IGN for unreliable out of date info and then you quote them :)

To miss out on the Christmas games rush would be crazy for PD and Sony :confused:

has PD not finished yet or have they(the guys from PD) found some little problems which they want to solve and need because of that more time than excepted???
.....but it can still be true that GT4 comes in 2005!!:(...but keep on hoping..........:)

That is exactly why GT4 will be out in 2004. Sony would be beyond pissed if PD couldn't release GT4 on time, since the GT series is one of the flagships for the PS2, and to miss out on what could be the PS2's last big holiday season would be a disaster, not only for marketing but also for sales, and I think PD will need some extra cash if they want to be able to properly develop the epic that will be GT5.

The only scenarios I could possibly see causing a delay are either a) a massive bug pops up and takes months to solve or b) the game simply isn't done and PD has been misleading us at the game's status (example: Valve and Half Life 2 last year).
 
i dont think they can delay it, they really have to get it our around the same time as halo 2. otherwise they will lose ground. this is what i was told by electronic boutiques.

Sony are not Polyphony Digital...Polyphony Digital are not Sony. PD Developed GT1,GT2,GT3, and GT4 not Sony...clear yet :)
Sony Entertaiment just publish the game.

Sony would be pi**ed, because come Christmas they will sell a big truck load of brand new PS2's off the back of GT4. Children the world over will be nagging their parents to buy them a PS2 so they can play GT4.

Without a big gun like GT4, Sony would lose out to x-box in new console sales.
 
KY is a perfectionist - if he's not happy with the product it won't be released before xmas.

Although sales won't be high initially with a post-chrimbo release, I believe that over time sales would even out regardless of pre/post chrimbo release.
 
PD is owned by Sony but PD has a lot of freedom to take thier time and make their products such good quality. However I don' see Sony allowing them to delay GT4 past Christmas, but anyway KY has already said GT4 will be released later this year.
 
Is that a majority shareholder thing Live4speed or do they have any creative control? I didn't know that :)

I imagine heads will roll on the marketing board if they miss the xmas deadline, I think it can be around 25-33% of the years sales in that one month alone :crazy:

GTA is fantastic but has an 18 certificate, that excludes a huge amout of people who own PS2's

I started a thread in here a couple of weeks ago with reliable info that GT4 could possibly be put back till MAY / APRIL next year , and all anybody wanted to do was slag me off telling me i know nothing , and everyone seemed to know everything about everything in the games industry !!!!!!

Most of the peeps who post on here pretend to know all about sony n polyphony , when in truth most of you know jack **** .

LETS JUST FACE IT

GT4 will be here when it is ready and not a second sooner . I came to you all with some pretty reliable info from a sony rep , and was brushed off that i was a muppet .

Also , i thought you are supposed to search for info before starting a new thread thats already been discussed loads of times .

BOTTOM LINE FOLKS - POLYPHONY & SONY WILL RELEASE GT4 WHEN ITS READY .
THE INTEREST IN THIS GAME ALREADY IS TOO BIG FOR THEM TOO RELEASE AN UNFINISHED GAME (as with gt3 )

So why dont you all just button it until some hard evidence presents itself -- OK !!!
 
PD is owned by Sony and only Sony, however due to the iportance of thier products and the qualty they are done at, after Sony had them rush GT2, PD were given the control to decide when a product was ready, but I don't think Sony would let them miss two christmas releases since they wanted it out last year at first.

And COME ON UNITED 👍, get lost Chaser fan you ARSEnal fan (offense intended lol).

GT3 was finished, GT2 wasn't which is what I said, that was full of bug and glitches nd had modes taken out because they wern't ready like the drag racing.

Dont know where you have been , but its a well known fact that PD has admitted GT3 was rushed because of the poor release titles with the ps2 .

Also i have got attitude , because thats all i got when i tried to tell you all this info weeks ago !!!!!!!!!!

GT3 didn't feel unfinished, it was a good game even if it was rushed, GT2 felt rushed.
 
I though Kazunori wanted a november release to AVOID the holiday season stress? Could be me but we need to check out some previous interviews.
 
The offical info still has November, KY has said GT4 will be out this year in an interview a week ago I don't see GT4 being delayed into 2005.

AND HAVE TO THE PART OF THE WALL WHICH COMES BEFORE THE TIRE-STACK AND THEN U WILL RUN THROUGH THE WALL(!!!) AND CAN DRIVE "IN" THE LANSCAPE......

The game will NOT be delayed any further than it has. This according to two interviews, one coming from OPM magazine. It will be an early December release, regardless of what needs to be done. Meaning, PD is waiting for a possible license to end, and they are spending the time buffing and polishing the game up. Everything for the game is complete, and they're making GT4 look like a video game. They said they would continue to add cars, and fix the presentation of the game, up until its release.
 
no,what i've heard about de release date is that the game will come out in Europe this year in Late november or early december(20 November/10 December..)

The game can still be released in November, since we have no official release date, but I imagine that PD would take every day possible to improve the game up until its final release. However, they cannot put a fixed percentage of the games completion since they don't know how far they can still go with it. That's just added to give a general idea of how much is completed, but it doesn't hold water.

They said in a interview that the game is fininshed 82%.
but you are right cause the game can still come out early november.
but in the interview they said that the game wil com november/december

Like L4S pointed out, Polyphony Digital is Sony, Kazunori Yamauchi is Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment and President of Polyphony Digital. :)
