If anything's going to head to head with GT4 it's Forza, and we already know which way that battle will go :sly:

Besides, much as we might hate to admit it, GT4 will make a big splash but I don't think it will be a sales leader for Sony. NFSU2, the 2005 EA titles, GTA - those will all sell well into the multi-million copies. A quick scan of game preview sites shows very little mass interest in GT4. GT4 will eventually make headlines for being so good at what it does, but I doubt we'll draw the interest we might hope to. :grumpy:

Prologue has sold 500,000+ copies in Japan alone. And that's for a demo.

Overall sales for the GT series is closing in on 30 million units worldwide (only for GT1,2,3 and doesn't include concept or prologue).

Ya... it won't sell much...

as for mass interest... http://www.gamestats.com has it at #7 of all games on all platforms and the second highest PS2 game next to GTA. GT4 will sell multi-millions which is incredible for a racing game... which in the past have not been top sellers. The other problem is there's been so little news about GT4 from Sony or PD since E3, most game sites can't give you any credible or even remotely believable made up news about GT. We're even struggling here @ GTP and this site is for GT4 fanatics...

Last note.. if they nail the online mode... look out...

Yep look out because you won't be seing me in your mirror, I'll be seeing you in mine though :D.

4)In the past, you spent time playing to progress through levels in a game. How would you feel about purchasing the right to unlock content you would normally play to obtain (stadiums, weapons and characters, etc.)?

wt stadiums WEAPONS???? its a racing gam lol... your makin me want to investigate this..

It's not a questioanairre about GT4, it's aboout PS2 online support.

Oh, I definitely think it will be a great game and will sell incredibly for racing, like you said. But Need for Speed sold something like 5 million copies in 6 months. Yeah, it won't stay around as long as GT3 (which is indeed the 2nd most highly rated game....rated, not sales) but that whole series will catch up very fast. Madden has some 35 million units, a bunch of the other sports games have 30+ million...GT4 will be on the charts, but other companies aren't developing market strategies around it like they do the EA sports titles. And considering the development time that has gone into GT4 - the title isn't going to yield the same profits as a lot of other sequels. Too much time out there spent actually figuring out what cars sound like and how they handle, rather than making it up ;) GT4 will be a solid member of the Sony library, but I don't think it will define the yearly sales as compared to Halo 2, etc.

I actually hope they REALLY nail the online mode. GT4 has the potential to fill the role of a professional racing simulator. Currently this space is dominated by PC games in general, and Live for Speed in particular. The upcoming GTR will probably be the successor for LFS in the Electronic Sports League and hopefully an upcoming ESWC league, but if Sony was interested I bet they could work in GT4 bit by bit. I for one would love to see GT4 as the defining online racer in general...it may not really give GT4 a big boost in sales or anything, but a big boost in stature :) Not that it needs it!

I think GT4 will without a doubt be the biggest selling GT game so far, Sony will market it more and pump more into advertising, add to that it's online play will tempt some people to buy who might have been unsure. All GT4 needs to sell more than any other racing game is to be on the shelves, every good review, every tpe of advertising and word of mouth will all add to thoes sales and I bet you see GT4 on TV before the game is out and then the reviews will come and gthe the game which will cause people to praise the game to their friends and create even more sales. The number one selling game will not be GT4, it's never a racing game, but it will be in the top 5.

GT4 will sell millions more than Halo 2, if only because of the number of PS2's out there.

Halo 2 is more important for the Xbox simply because the Xbox lacks quality, exclusive titles.

GT4 is one of the most hotly anticipated Sony titles out there. Only GTA is bigger. MGS is probably up there as well.

Don't know about the US, but NFS:U was hardly a massive success in Europe. A solid title, nothing more. Put it this way, people were not queing to buy NFS. They will be for GT4. GT4 will be the focus of Sonys marketing push along GTA and MGS this Christmas. Just look at the E3 presentations etc. The titles always highlighted are GT4, GTA and MGS.

And lets not forget GT4 is a 'sim' so immedialty this rules out a large number of potentialy purchasers.

"because the Xbox lacks quality, exclusive titles."

it does? Well god damn, I must have one of these fangled magic xbox's with games that don't actually exist ;)

Halo 2 and Gt4 are equally important for both consoles imo, both will be the best games on the system, and show people what they are both capible of :) w00t to them both coz I'm gonna own em both WOOOOO!!!

'Exclusive' was the important word :)

The PS2 would be fine without GT4, although much the poorer, Xbox I' not too sure about.

Are you trying to say that GT4 suck!!!!!

;)

Let this end another great chapter of the PS2/Xbox war...

Gt4 is as good as pong, except pong has better graphics

Need for Speed Underground finished first in sales for the month end of November (December 7) and January (February 1) in Australia at the end of 2003/start of 2004, according to Inform (www.informbd.com.au). It was in the top 2 for 4 months, beaten only by Final Fantasy X-2 and Rugby League.

leading in sales for a month means almost nothing. madden is the dominating game for for gaming in general. winning november, december, jan, or whatever doesnt really matter because most people buy madden within the first 3 days of it coming out. u can buy nfsu at any time and get the same impact. sports games usually dont work that way. no one's gonna buy madden 2004 right now but they may buy need for speed. madden sales are never spread out.

I should have been more specific, GT4 will probably lead in sales when it is released but over a period of time it will lose out to other games that a wider audience will buy, more people like fps shooters than racing games for example.

Yeah, well, NFS:Underground seems like a chromed piece of crap to me, after playing the likes of Midnight Club 2. Yeah! Go Rockstar!
Don't get me wrong, I have loved NFS since the very first one (NFS and NFS SE on PC). And I haven't played Madden regulalrly since 2k1 (all subsequent versions are the same to me, with a bunch of gimmicks added).
There is no use for the HDD in Madden.
But GT4 could definitely benefit from downloadable content.
