...Question 4: Will this be an "OPEN" competition, or will it be based on driver ability?
Answer 4: Not quite sure I fully understand the question but I'll try and outline a few key points to see if I can answer it...

* Each driver picks a car they wish to race and based on that given car, then assigned to a specific 'class'..
NOTE: See the car list in 1st post to see which car falls under which 'class'
...

I just didn't know if "faster" members would be grouped together and "slower" members in another group...e.g. "Sub 5-min Ring" drivers in class "A", and "5-min. plus Ring" drivers in class "B". But it looks like it's "OPEN".

Put me in with Pecarolo COURAGE C60 RACE CAR.

In that case, count me in. I'll use the wed sport celica assuming i have it available in arcade mode. I have never used arcade mode, can someone quickly tell me if this car is available or can you use cars from your garage (in which case i have it)? i'd find out for myself but my PS2 stopped reading GT4 on monday, will replace it this weekend but want to enter this competition today.

P.s. can the races be longer than 20mins, so more than 10laps for most tracks. It's good to have time to settle into a grove.

To: Colnago & Biochemist....I'm at work right now (4:00AM PST) but when I get home, I'll provide further information/clarification for you! Thanks!

SimRaceDriver:

NOTE 1: To anyone who is willing to help answer the question from Biochemist about whether or not the Toyota WEDSSPORT CELICA is available in Arcade Mode, please do the following:

1. Turn off PS2
2. Remove memory card
3. Turn on PS2 & insert GT4..if not already in! :D
4. Skip through the prompts and go to Arcade Mode
5. Pick to race any track and when prompted, scrolll down to Toyota and scroll through the available cars and see if this car (Wedssport Celica) is available.
6. If so, then one does not need to unlock it and can be choosen to race when the series starts.

NOTE 2: Each race is tenatively set to go AT LEAST 10 laps, so this should cover the time frame of 10 minutes there Biochemist...However, I'm willing to go 15 laps per race, unless there's major objection from the other drivers...
(Nurburgring will be one of the tracks raced, but don't worry, 15 laps will NOT be ran on this track....something more along the lines of around 5 or?...

Thx-

So you're saying that I should start practicing The RIng, eh? can you believe that I have been all the way around it yet and the only time I've seen it is on License tests? :p

i will take......the mazda 787b. ******* awesome sounding car IRL (sorry about the language!)

Well, I've always wanted to be in a competition running multiple laps. The WRS is awesome fun, but it tends to obviously focus around one lap, so if you screw up you simply restart, retsrat, restart and then save the best one.

I am assuming that we can practice for however long and then have to submit 1-10 (or 1-15) laps for verification, if required? In otherwords, I can't run 25 laps and then take the faster 10 from the middle or something bizarre, and it has to be laps 1-10 (1-15), rather than 5-20 or 20-35.

God, did that make any sense?

I follow you, if we go to: >ARCADE MODE >Time Trial, it doesn't save cumulative time...does it? I don't go to Arcade mode at all, and from what I can see, wouldn't it be easier to just set up: >ARCADE MODE >Single Race, and just setup the race for the pre-determined # of laps? The few opportunities we will have to "draft" will "skew" the times (as this seems to be a concern with the various series here), but it's an advantage that's available to everyone. At least that way we could submit a more "presentable" time.

We could always verify using this method:

Colnago - Tokyo R246 F1 time

I just say that the laps should be from min 5 to max 12-13 or so... then you know enough about the time gaps between drivers. I'm sure of that... so longer racer wont have a point...

FYI..I just found out it's not in Arcade Mode by default...And now that I think about it, I do believe it's a Prize car....The only Toyota Race Car available is the Woodone (spelling?) Supra (JGTC @ 493hp)

Ok I have decided I will take the Lister Storm please. Thanks :sly: 👍

hi all, you can write me up with a corvette C5R - if still available off course
thx

**** Are we allowed to adjust the top speed? ***

I (Pescarolo Courage) may be a little "out classed" by the Audi R8 by the tune of .75 - 1 second a lap.

No. Cars are to be raced in their stock 'as-is' mode but thanks for bring this to my attention colnago...I've updated my original post to indicate this.. 👍

...Qualifying/Race Day:
Qualifying will open on the Monday before the race! Race Day is the following Saturday, unless otherwise indicated! You'll have all day to race. Time submission will need to be submittedNO LATER THEN THE FOLLOWING MONDAY (2-days later) by 11AM PST

What is the relavance of Qualifying? What's does it consist of?

Primarily...it's just used to get used to the tracks...so for those select few who have not either raced those tracks yet, or have but not as much as they'd like...then 'qualifying' gives them that little bit of extra lap time they'll need so come race day, they'll not be driving in dark...or so the old saying goes... :)

Cool...so we don't submit anything then? Yes I'm "new". :)

That is correct...unlike the WTCC event handled by GT_Fan2005, there is no need to submit any qualifying times for this event...Just use the qualifying time to get accustomed to the tracks each week, so when it comes to Race Time, you're familiar with the layout...

that would certainly be timesaving, on the other hand gt's idea for giving out extra points for qualifying make it a double challenge.

PM me your ideas and we'll see what we can possibly implement to make things a bit more exciting...👍

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it's a bad idea, not at all. it's a good approach when keeping in mind a lot of newbies will run. i'm just saying that not much of the experienced drivers will actually use that free time.
on the other hand when expierenced drivers would take the time to qualify, the newbies would know where they stand, and how much they need to improve, or how much better they allready perform off course.
It's a choice you've made, and i think it's certainly worth a try to see how everybody will respond to this.

I vote for a post of Quali times. I'm pretty sure I'm an easy (1) second down on the Audi R8...at New York anyway, without even trying. The Pescarolo, in stock Arcade form, is about 8-10mph "slower" at the end of the front straight due to the lower gear ratio.

Being that there are only (2) of us in the L1, if my competition is at least on par with my driving ability, it will be a long season...let alone if he/she is better than me.

The only problem is if people "sandbag" and post up, for instance, a qualifying time of 1:12. Then "magically" find consistent 1:10s for an entire race distance. :)

i would like the qualify to count with a simple points scheme. that way we'll all make an effort (therefore no sandbagging) and the season is more involving.

just my thoughts, personally i'm just pleased there are those willing to organise the on-line championships, i'm happy with anything.
Nice going SimRaceDriver

P.s. is it worth posting/are we allowed to post another thread in the main forum for a final attempt a recruiting drivers?

To: extase4u2 = I think you make a valid point and it's totally worth considering! I will review what others have done in the past & what is being done now in other OLR events (WTCC) and see if other racers in this event are open to it...personally speaking, I'm all game for keeping the series Fun, Exciting and of course, most of all, competive for all racers!

To: colnago = The more I think about it, the more your suggestion makes logical sense!
If everyone submitted a qualifying time before each race, then that QT could be used as a barometer in determining whether or not their final times are accurate or not and if say the final lap time submission is faster then the QT's, I could work out a formula for handicapping them in the next race! I will admit this is something I did NOT consider (sandbagging) when I first thought of doing this series!

To: Biochemist = I think a pretty good system to setup would be what GT_Fan2005 is doing with the WTCC event, in which the driver with fastest QT for each division is awared a certain number of 'extra points', which are then added to the final points after each race.

Feedback is welcomed!

Feel free to also email me at simracedriver@comcast.net with any ideas and/or further suggestions anyone of you might have.

Thanks to all for the feedback!

It was primarily an attempt to determine "parity" between cars, a secondary benefit would be to structure parity between "drivers' abilities". If someone is destroying the field every qualifier/race, there's always "Rewards weight". ;) Conversely, in the larger groups, if someone is much slower than the field, rather than have that person "lose interest" and not participate anymore, allow them to "Reduce Weight" on a graduated schedule, until they are up to speed.

I'm on another forum, with a video game page, and we have ad hoc GT4 challenges (ie - use car "X", @ track "Y", with "Z" modifications) and people won't even participate once the faster drivers/times get posted. Even though there is great interest for the challenges and game itself.

Maybe 1-2 points for the fastest quali-lap only? Old school F1 method. There's only (2) of us in L1...wouldn't make much sense to give points for P1 thru P3. I could get points for not even submiting a time.

Now let's get this thing started so I can finally have a reason to run the Pescarolo. :)

are you kidding! 10 laps of le mans! too many IMO. 6 or 7 should be suitable.

I think u should take the wall hitting thing off, cause someone is probly going to scrape the wall a little bit in a 10 lap race. Especially me.

Dude! 10 laps in the car you choose to race (Mazda 787B) is about 30 minutes if that....7 laps is only about 21 minutes..a diff. of 9 minutes..are you telling me you can't squeeze 9 additional minutes out of your life?
