GT4 NTSC-PAL Game conversion

I think the problem with the slide card is that it will eventually damage the disc tray motor. Not too sure if that would make your PS2 unusable. Of course, the new PS2 (PSTwo as some call it) is already flip top so having one of those would be an advantage!
However, considering my PS2 is nearly 4 years old perhaps I should get a new one. It is making some worrying noises!

I'm just wondering if those flip tops and slide cards support the DVD-9 format, i've heard that they don't support it. Maybe you need a DVD-9 game to load a DVD-9 game, I dunno.

The only clicks my PS2 makes are from the HDD. ;)

Did you buy your HDD over here, and, if so could I enquire where?

Cheers

Well, my order is on its way. Just need to get an import game and try it out.
I have been on another forum where someone told me that this Slid Card method has worked on the vast majority of DVD games, but not the older CD-Rom blue discs. I guess I will not know until I get an import game in and try it out. I may also get a Flip top case to replace the upper case of my PS2.
And there I was thinking "Bugger it, I'll just get an import PS2!" :dopey:

Well, I dunno myself. This Swap disc is a version 3 I believe. But it is supposed to work. Hmmm...maybe there are a few pitfalls. Perhaps FMV does'nt play properly! I can't say at the mo'. But once I get it and a game I'll report back about hoe it went! 👍

If the first game I get for it (possibly Ace Combat 5) does'nt work I think I might knock it on its head. I don't want to but import games and not be able to play them! 👎

PS I have found a few reviews - Magic Swap review and here -Official site
From that site;
The success rate for original DVD import games, is about the same as with DVD-R backups. New games in the Dual Layer DVD-9 format might not work because of the extremely big TOC (table of content) size around 7-9 GB. Swap Magic Boot Discs only have a TOC size of around 4.35GB. But a backup of a Dual Layer game applied with a patch might work.
:scared:
Is GT4 and MGS3 dual layer? Maybe I am back to "Bugger it, I'll just get an import PS2!"

Last edit! So, GT4 is a DVD-9 dual layer game..... oh, bollocks! Time to get an import PS2 then..... :irked:

I have received the swap discs etc. It is a little fiddly and you do have to pull out the disc tray which may affect the motor etc. However, it does work, at least with my US GT3.
Firstly it now runs at 60fps as opposed to the PAL 50. It is noticeable. Secondly the picture is better. There seems to be better detail. It's hard to describe but it is visible. Thirdly the music is better and there is more of it....
However, it would be more conveiniant to use a flip top as it took me several attempts to get the slide tool to work and you have to do it several times to get started.
The other thing is GT4 is a HUGE game, some 9GB. I don't think the swap magic disc will work with it. But I'm sure it will with plenty of others like Tekken 5 for example.
The best bet is to get an import console. Lik-sang do one for around £125 incl postage. However, you may have to pay customs etc which could add another £40 or £50.
Well, that's that then!

Yeah I've been looking into import sites & the whole 'will it get past customs thing' is one of the major reasons I wouldn't bother. Also I'd want it for xmas, which would mean I'd have to spend about £10 on postage :indiff:

The network adapter allows you to plug most normal PC HDD's onto it, but it's pointless having one unless you have HDD loader. I have a normal 80gb Maxtor drive which can be picked up all over the place.

I've noticed that my disc tray is a bit noisy now, maybe I should lubricate it.
