GT4 or not to GT4

I am a hardcore GT gamer and I have played the first, second, and third GT games and I was wondering how GT 4 compared. I wasent to impressed with the number of cars avalible on GT3 but I did like the Formula 1 cars.

I have all the GT games and GT4 is by far the better of them, it has more cars and tracks and is the most realistic handling wise of them all. P.S:I agree, the formula 1 cars rock on GT3 i wish there was more off them on GT4

GT4 has the nurb, Ive done around 8000+km around the track and I'm still learning new lines and better ways to tackle it. Let alone all the other courses some of which i barely know.

It will take a long time indeed to master all the different tracks.

GT4 is the best GT IMHO, the tracks have bumps, dips, and all sorts of things that make driving on them so much fun. Add a DFP to that mix and its the best driving expereince ive had.

agreed 👍
gt4's tracks are a lot more realistic (compare laguna seca on gt3 and gt4) and have bumps and elevation changes that add a lot more realism and constantly changing conditions.

P.S. I just wish there were different f1 cars such as maclaren, renault, ferrari, etc instead of "polyphony" where all the f1's perform the same.

Welcome to GTPlanet ZondaLM... I think you'll find that the general consensus here is that GT4 is worth a try, otherwise this site should change it's name!

Check out our FAQ's (here), the GT4 main page (here) and browse/search the forums a bit, and see what your missing. Aside from being the most realistic driving sim around, GT4 has alot more to it than previous incarnations (pardon the pun!) of the game, but also keeps the best parts of the series intact.

For the record, I do know a couple of 'hardcore gamers' who don't play driving games, but since you are already familiar with the series, GT4 won't disappoint (unlike some other games I could mention :sly: ) The biggest criticisms levelled at GT4 involve the lack of damage and particularly the easiness/stupidity of the AI, but like previous GT games, it really is as hard as you want it to be... a bit of thought about car selections and set-ups, and GT4 can really give you a battle. Failing that, try taking part in the Weekly Racing Series here at GTP, where you can pit your wits against some of the fastest guys and girls around...

How many tracks would GT4 happen to have, because a racing game just isn't exciting when you know every corner.

I'd say the exact opposite.
When you don't know every corner you tend to rely on a massively overpowered car to catch & pass the AI drivers down the straights before you nurf it at the next unexpected bend and repeat the process again and again until you power past at the finish line. This isn't exciting (or "racing" technically)

When you know every bend and good racing lines the excitement arises from taking a similar or even underpowered car compared to the AI and using good racing skills, late braking, etc. to clinch the win. That's where the excitement comes from. :sly:

If you can't make the game exciting once you've learned the tracks there's something wrong. Also as Touring Mars suggested, try the WRS. You'll get nowhere unless you know every bend, since more than 2 wheels off track, or a touch on the wall is illegal!

There. That's my 2 cents. Now go buy the game, strap in, and enjoy! 👍

P.S. How will you get golds on the licence tests without knowing the bends?!!!! :mischievous:

The tracks are the standout feature of GT4 in my opinion. The addition of many real world tracks was a good one, and they have been very faithfully reproduced. The new Laguna Seca is more realistic, and much more challenging than the GT3 version. To that end, many of the new track additions are very difficult. Opera Paris, Fuji 2005, Suzuka, Citta di Aria, El Capitan, Infineon Raceway, etc, are all tracks that take countless laps to truly perfect. Then there is the task of memorizing the 13 miles of turns, bumps, and jumps that make up the Nurburgring Nordschleife, then attacking it full tilt in an LMP car. With 51 tracks, many of which can be run in reverse, you won't know every corner for a very long time. There is also a far more interesting selection of cars in GT4, with very different characterstics.

Hardcore GT gamer? You should have this game already.

Getting a brand new game is not that easy for me, as I have limited finances. However, these reports are very convincing and it helps remove some of the worries of using up every last penny to get the next in line for my favorite game. Thanks evryone!

Dont worry If you loved the previous GT's then you'll love GT4.

If you can afford to buy ANY video game, it should definitely be GT4 easily the best game ever.

I bought it twice this year , again after it was filched & i only get to play on average less than an hour a day , but it's all worth it . Ten hours a day of this baby will have your nerve endings and adrenals rewired !

I would tell you to save your money, unless you believe lots of cars and real-life tracks can make up for a disappointingly mediocre physics engine...

But it seems like you've already made up your mind, and I'd be outnumbered anyway....

Has the price dropped yet? The graphics and car/track selection would be worth it for $30 or less...
