i didn't get to walmart cause of the snow storm over here, but i called up Staples by my house............will a PNY 512 USB Thumb Drive work.

Staples has a in store deal .......$50 bucks with $10 buck mail in rebate.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm getting the impression that any usb mass storage device that doesn't need drivers for Win XP will work with the PS2.

This might be of help. I have an I river h320 and a Konika Minolta Z3. One of the Irivers features is that you can connect any mass storage device to it, that doesn't need extra drivers in winXP, and it will show up as a drive.

Any camera that needed drivers for WinXP wouldn't work. Most folk including myself still had trouble even though we met these requiements. It was then found that formating the memory card in the digi cam did the trick. Might be worth a shot.

Thank God someone else has a Cruzer Mini that works.

So now we have a 128mb and a 1gb Cruzer Mini confirmed to be working.

My Cruzer Mini 256MB works perfectly fine also.

I tried my old digicam (Toshiba PDR-M71) and it did not work.

I also tested the D-Link USB 2.0 7-in-1 Card Reader (DUB-CR100) with a Lexar 1 gig SD card that I had in my Palm, and it worked.

I should have tried taking the mem card out of the camera and tried it with the card reader, but I figured it would have worked.

What is your PS2 model?

I have a SCPH-50010 and my cruzer mini 256 just doesn't want to work..

Heck, I didnt feel like reading 10 pages of this thread, But I tried my Olympus C-700 D-Camera and it worked fine. It just made a folder on the memory card. I think I saw where someone else did the same with another brand of camera. Anywas, Something to add that works. Not sure of the quality yet, I just did test run to see if it would work. Ill look here in a bit and see how it prints out and whatnot.

I finally got a Sony Microvault, picked it up at CompUSA today for 20 bucks. Its a 128MB one, my Lexar 512MB bit the dust yesterday.

We know from Sven that the MAXDrive works. But does anyone have any clue on the proper way to format it?

This question has been asked at least three times in this thread, and totally ignored every time.

I just ran across this site so you can't accuse me of ignoring you. :P
I do, however, have a theory about the MAXDrive:

I do not have a MAXDrive but I do have a generic 16MB flash drive which, basically, is the same thing as a MAXDrive. In reading all these threads I notice a large majority of problems are resolved by formatting from FAT to FAT32, something neither you nor I can do because the volume size of our flash drives are too low. Some people, however, are able to use FAT. And this is where the confusion lies:

Under 16mb and formatting FAT doesn't actually format to FAT16 - it formats to FAT12. However, Sven formatted with a Mac in "MS-DOS" mode which, more than likely, formatted it to a true FAT16 system which is why his MAXDrive is working whereas yours (and my generic 16mb stick) does not.

In testing this theory, I took my 16mb stick to a friend of mine who owns a Mac and formatted it in "MS-DOS" mode. It now works fine in GT4. So it would appear that unless you can find a way to format the stick to true FAT16 mode, it's not going to work at all.

I also didn't feel like filtering through 10 pages of posts, so here is what I found out last night:

I did a quick test right before bedtime with a SanDisk ImageMate CompactFlash/SmartMedia combo USB reader. I only inserted a CF card (128 SanDisk) and saved my first ever picture attempt (ahh my gorgeous Imola Red M3!) and it worked perfectly.

I ran up to the PC and connected the USB reader. GT4 creates a folder on the card called GT4 (duh) and your pictures are in there. It worked great, although it was a little too dark for my liking. I'll have to tweak it tonight.

first post, page twelve.

I did not read the entire 11 pages, nor do I intend to. However, I have a working device.

I used my Olympus digital camera and it works fine. I cannot think of the model off-hand, but I have had experience with 3 different Olympus digital cameras and they all work EXACTLY the same with the PC... so unless someone can disprove it, I will wager that they would all work the same with the PS2 through a proper USB cable.

So add it to the list, ANY OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA!

Under 16mb and formatting FAT doesn't actually format to FAT16 - it formats to FAT12.

Isn't FAT12 going to have a problem with the 250-300 Kbyte files?

2^12 = 4 Kbytes...

Heh, forgot my own question...

I haven't read the whole thread, but I didn't notice a mention of external USB enclosures in the portions I did read. Has anyone tried using an external USB enclosure to save files?

I have a 200 gig NTFS formatted drive in a USB2.0 external enclosure...

I'd like to avoid buying a usb drive for the moment if I can

TIA :)

just tried my dads sandisk like this:

ThumbDrive Flash Drive, 128MB, USB 2.0
Cruzer Mini Flash Drive, 128MB, USB 2.0

Just tried my BMW MP3 Watch... works like a champ!

Maybe I need to get a life?

Iriver IHP-120 works!!!!!! sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet

these things are the god of mp3 players. they show up as an external harddrive when attached to a computer, have a built in radio tuner and microphone, and soon, hacked firmware will be out that has a built in gameboy emulator, and many other features (ebooks, etc). amazing. oh and it comes with a full function backlit lcd remote and a leather case. get all that with your ipod. ha! (ipods are great tho, i just did reasearch and am glad i got an ihp120)

GT4 saves to it perfectly, it makes its own gt4 folder on it and puts the pics in there.

Hi
Not sure if this has been updated lately but I have a SanDisk Cruzer "MINI" 128mb and it works fine. I am using the U.S version of GT-4 <-- not sure that matters. But anyway it works great and I did not even have to reformat. Just wanted to help out.
