GT4 Pits Stop

The most annoying thing about GT3 pitstops was the Laguna Seca pitlane and the way the AI would take control. It has a left-hand 90 degree corner which the computer takes control of, and has a tendency to crash if you are on worn tyres. I have lost a few races at Laguna Seca in this way!

Well you obviously didn't learn from your mistakes...

After you'd lost the first time did you not think that braking before you entered the pits might be a good idea?

I highly doubt that they'll allow your pitcrew to mess up during a stop. How annoying would that be, you're on lap 40 of a 50-lap enduro, and your crew screws up and takes an extra 30 seconds putting out a fire and getting your car ready to go. You lose first place and have no way of making up those 30 seconds in the remaining ten laps. You just spent an hour and a half for nothing, all because the pit crew messed up. I don't think that would be fun at all.
I'd do it as either a way of imposing a stop/go penalty or setting it so that the team is most likely to stuff up early in a race or when you have a significant lead over the next car to make the last few laps a little bit more exciting, but the gap would be large enough so that you don't lose your position unless you make a mistake yourself.

I saw an old Le Mans race with that old Jaguar. The crew lifted the flap up and it fell on the car. After changing the tire, the crewmen pulled the flaps back down over the tire, and bolted it. 👍

personally i can't imagine that there will be different crew animations for every car...
there are just too many differences (number of bolts per tyre, flaps, etc..)

on the speed limit issue: i'd really love it if you had to slow down yourself and get penalties if you don't get it right.
👍

I wouldn't mind the pit stops being similar to F1C (eg Race cars have a rev limiter for the pits and you have to stop in your pit). Then with road cars you'd have to actually slow to 60km/h or whatever the pit limit is, otherwise face a time penalty. Of course all before the pit lane, not like GT3. :)

But would the AI be able to commit the same mistake of not slowing down when entering Pit Lane and get penalised for it? Seems a bit unfair if you can get in trouble for something they can't. Then again, they're probably programmed to slow down to whatever speed is used as the limit. Maybe another random event based on percentage (mind you, a really small percentage at that)?

The slowdown didn't always work on GT3. For example in the 'Like the Wind' race in my Viper I went into the pits so fast it couldnt slow me down in time. I was still doing 200k's when I crossed the line, and I actually overshot my pit by a few feet!!

Slowing down into the pits should be like in gt3 plus with the penalty
All you have to do to avoid it,if you go in to fast, is to brake before the auto-drive does, that would do it.
But this way the auto-drive should start more near the line so that way you need to brake before every time and not only when you r going to fast.

From the video seen already of the pit stops, there is no jack man operating the ydraulic jack and there is no refueller, just 4 tyre men and 1 lollipop man, I dont think any of this will change depending on car.

When driving in game the auto drive time will most likely be used to select tyres and fuel.

i got the ideal plan for the simulation:

coming into the pit, you have to slow down to 70km/h yourself. the advantage in this is that you can slow down later than the AI, gaining a bit of time on them.

once in the pits, you have to engage a limiter to keep you at the limit. at this point, i have a special idea. like in B-Spec where you have a scale of 1-5 to either calm the speed or speed up, i think they should implement a similar system. if you are doing well in a race, you pick one, because there is less chance of a mistake if they are going slower. however, if you need those valable few seconds, pressing 5 selects the fastest speed they can change the tyres, fuel, oil etc and therefore there is more chance that there will be a mistake (what do you think of this idea?).

once in the pits, you semi-steer the car into the pitcrew and brake at the appropriate point. the computer then takes over and does the pit at the level of speed you picked before (1-5) and according to that speed they may **** up on certain levels, whether it being a fuel leak, tyre falling off or fire. once the guy with the STOP sign turns to GO, accelerate and steer out of the pit lane to your race :)

and there is no refueller
Actually, in one video there is an Audi TT-R pitting, and there's a refueller dude doing his job. It's in one of the threads around here...

I thought of a really sneaky way for PD to use a form of catch-up AI: the further ahead you are, the more likely your crew would mess up.

But that would be stupid.

Heh, I thought I was the only one who did that. Talk about being pissed. You go into the pits, and the damn computer doesn't slow you down in time. I had to reenter the pits after doing another lap.

Ill keep my eye out for that vid, i just thoughtthat with all the different refueler positions on the cars, we wouldnt see it.
If anyone has a link to this vid, id like to see it.

Immagine yourself , doing a 12 or 24 hour endurance race .
Wouldn't it be cool , if you could enter the pits , and switch to B-spec. mode , to get some rest and let "your driver" take over .
If you can determine the interval between the stops , it might be do-able .
Just hope your driver doesn't screw up . :ouch:

Don't shoot me , I know it won't happen , but if this is possible , I'm never switching my PS2 off again .

Look at this screen shot, I know its old but the driver door is open and so is the engine compartment. What do you guys think? Is just initial ideas they had that were ditched or were they just to get people intrested?

I think it's either initial ideas or them switching drivers at an endurance race.

that's an FMV shot. Old stuff.

I heard that in GT4, there will actually be a pit crew of 4 guys and a woman in bikini, with the lollypop :trouble: ...is this...true??

I very much doubt it as it's against the rules of most circuits, if not all, to have people around refuelling equipment wearing anything less than fireproof overalls. Although Willi Webber seems to be an exception to the rule!

..Darn... :(

You guys ever wonder if its topics like this that delay games?

I mean...due to the population of this forum, Im sure some person or another from PD has looked at the page to see what we think. Dont you think theres some chance that someone sees this topic and is like "hey! KY! This is a good idea! Lets delay the game and put this in!" I mean...they're such good ideas.

(although, this not being possible, since the game is now finished)

(imagine when the game is released...if gtplanet.net got credit (forum) for certain ideas...that would kick *#$. :dopey:

Even better would be if a representative from PD actually visited the forum and chatted to us occasionally. I mean forums like this can only help sales of the game! :)

I AGREE!! We are definatly a big enough crowd FOR PD to talk to us Directly... We are a big chunk of their income.. at least thats what im guessing from the amount of members we have. :)

LOL Caligula!! that is a Such a great NAME!!! he was such a psycho....

Our numbers are minimal in the scale of things sales wise for the GT franchise, however we feed the frenzy and the hype that gets the minions excited. :)

It would be nice to get some Acknowledgment from the team, being that we are the worlds premier fan site for the GT series. :p
