EXCLUSIVE: GRAN TURISMO 4 PROLOGUE CONFIRMED FOR EUROPE!
Sony bows to public demand, with an exclusive limited edition version of the demo heading to Europe this May
17:31 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has today confirmed plans to release a version of Gran Turismo 4 Prologue in Europe later in the Spring, in a shock about-turn prompted by huge demand from the public.
Speaking exclusively to CVG earlier today, a SCEE spokesperson said: "We are planning to ship GT4 Prologue in Europe - it's due by the end of May."
And in a massive boost for European gamers, who have been left waiting while Japan has been enjoying the title for months, the European version of Prologue will pack a range of special bonus features.
"It will very much be a limited edition version," the spokesperson said. "In addition to the game it will come with a personal message from Kazunori [Yamauchi - creator of GT and industry rock star] and a special 'Making of... DVD'." We were also told the title will retail at a "reasonable price point".
With the full version of Gran Turismo 4 now not due until September (having originally been scheduled for release last year), the European version of Prologue will serve as "quite a cool bonus for real GT fans," according to the spokesperson. "We've been very open about when GT4 is coming, but we have this product that GT4 core fans want, so we've decided to release with added value. Our big pillar title is still [the full version of] Gran Turismo 4."
Back in October 2003, SCEE debunked suggestions of a European release for GT4 Prologue, a spokesperson revealing to us: "We can confirm that GT4: Prologue will be a sneak preview disc released solely for the Japanese market in time for their holiday season".
But the repeated delays of the full version of the game coupled with an outcry from fans for a PAL version of Prologue has inveigled SCEE into this shock about-turn, now releasing the title in Europe.
The spokesperson could neither confirm an exact price nor give an indication of numbers, but did state: "It will be very limited edition."
GT 4 Prologue is a teaser version of Polyphony Digital's massive PS2 racer, featuring four circuits from the final game - the Tsukuba circuit, Fuji speedway, Italian urban district and the Grand Canyon - and a range of tasty motors on which gamers can cut their teeth while waiting for the final, online-enabled version due this September. It's unclear whether the European version will boast any Euro-specific vehicles or tracks.
People power: it works, see? As soon as we have a finalised date and price we'll let you know.
