so what date are we decided on for the PAL release of GT4?

Officially its down as November 2004, no date specified.

Halo 2 for X box is released on Nov 9. I heard a "rumour" that Sony would like Polyphony to have GT4 on the shelves before that to compete in the crazy christmas console wars.

So that means early November.

^ were you speaking to Kaz at PD and that's who told you? He's the only one who could even have a remote clue as to when the game will be released.

September is the first official release date I think and that was given at E3.

I read yesterday in another thread here at GTP, and followed a link to one of those infallible gaming magazine articles, that indicate that EA's licensing agreement with Ferrari expires in dum dum dummmm.... -November-

Coincident?

In an unrelated story, I was browsing ads at www.racecarsdirect.com and found a lambo for sale. what was interesting is that it was a race car with a sponsor graphic that covered the whole side of the car, which read 'Playstation 2'.

Coinkydink?

The race car's with PS2 declas and sponsors have nothing to with a car being able to be in GT4 or not. However the Ferrari license being up in November has caused quite a few debates.

Wow very observant of you. Haven't visited this forum for a while have you?

haha, my sentiments exactly.

If that Lambo had GT4 signage on it there might be a remote possibility, but PlayStation 2 is pretty vague. Who knows what game that could be for, assuming it's for a game at all.

By all accounts we're still on for a November release. Fingers crossed.

There is a remote possibilty with any car, the fact that Sony sponsors it doesn't affect that, that has nothing to do with the licenses needed to use that car in a game.

And where did you get that insider info?

It's not insider info, there is always a possibilty a car will be in a GT game. Theres always the chance the current license holders will share the license for an agreed price. Bt race car sponsorship has nothing to do with the required licenses to have a car represented in a game such as GT.

you're correct, licenses are only for the car itself...........but the manufacturer can demand some race-versions of their cars in the game, including the sponsorships. it's all about the agreement between the two parties!

November sounds about right to me, but even if the Ferrari license does expire in november, surely PD aren't allowed to model the car until that date? Unless, of course, that is even more secret than everything else regarding GT4.

with regards to the post above I think it is fine for PD to model Ferrari's pre-contract expirey (sp?). They can't make any money on it by JUST modeling it.

[EDIT] SCEE say on their site October 2004.

Release date or license expiry is in October?

No way to know what's in the licensing agreement without reading it ourselves. Even if we did I'd wager we still wouldn't understand a lot.

Have they said how complete it is? or are you working that out by the fact GT4:P has been released? I think I remember them saying they were 70% complete last september. I never expected them to take another year to finish that final 30%.

Well, nobody really still knows what to expect from KY now. He may add in the extra 'added touch' and not tell us. Given how much he's keeping secret, that wouldn't surprise me.

The problem is, that final 30% included the online aspect, and we all know how much trouble that was causing last year. He say's he has it sorted now but he has also said he will be constantly ading tthings such as new cars right up to the last minuet before production and distribution.

in my mind the game is pretty much finished the are just playing and testing it imagine what havoc it would cause having to do a recall on the product just because they didn,t finish polishing the online feature lets face it that is where the most fun will come from beating the computer is fine but racing other people is where its at. for the release date don,t belive anything untill your local shop has copys out back and says its out this friday!!!!!!!!

The same logic displayed by nearly every reasonable member on these boards, repeatedly. And let's not get pedantic about typography, you could understand what he said, don't focus on the wrong aspect of a message.

The "best information" (read "guesses") still hints at a worldwide simultaneous release. Whenever it is.
