GT4 vs LFS??

I respect the notion of an improved user interface on the horizon, but of course it will never match the real thing. Still, I am totally conviced that things can be improved upon, no doubt about it. In the near future (relatively) GT5 looks like it will break the mold of 6 cars per race. I think GT4 was a big leap from GT3, but I think GT5 will be a bigger leap in realism. To me the realism is whats to improve, not so much the physics. I'd like to see more info about the car, so I can have better accuracy in tunning it. Even just a F/R weight distribution display in setup menu would be nice for suspension tuning. And by far the thing I would like to see the most would be an inside, behind the wheel view of all 500+ cars in the game. I know the PS3 will be impressive, but will dashboard details for that many cars be possible? I'd like the see the steering wheel twitching back and forth while you make course corrections mid turn, now that would be cool.

I loved the physics in GT3 with my Toyota GT-One race car on the test course. Nothing more realistic than going over 1300 MPH while doing a wheelie..
Loved the attept of the game trying to simulate the doppler effect at that speed during replay. It hurt my ears, can imagine if I had a dog it would've gone crazy.

yes he did. do a search on limewire or if not then ill just send it to you. they way he explain it, is that its just like real driving. (when he was driving the civic type r, it feels just like driving the real type r)

I would be very greatfull if you can upload it somewhere, just the part on GT4.. not the whole show, so i could tell one of my friends with fast net to download it.. ;)
Thanks ahead...

wow, first of all you should get your own facts straight.

it was tiff needel and not jeremy clarkson who did the test and it was not "a show on GT4" but rather a short look at the game.

what he did was taking the fwd civic and another rwd car on wet tsukuba and running through a corner with the throttle floored to show that Gt4 simulates the difference between FR and FF cars. doing that is hardly an achievement.

besides, you should read my posts. i said that GT4 simulates the driving well. i have not bought the whole ps2 just for GT4 because GT4 is crap.
but GT4 is very limited physics wise and that makes it NOT more realistic than LFS.

you can find a bittorrent download of the episode of fifth gear with tiff needel here.

Hey thanks.. but unfortunately my friends are not allowed to have P2P programs on work(where they have fast net).. so please, if any of you can cut that part of the show with GT4, and upload it via Rapid share, or something like that.. i would be trully greatfull!!

Wow, you people really went after me,huh?

So all disciples of LFS I'm assuming are going to buy the S2 subscription?

What the heck are you gonna do with yourselves? THREE EXTRA TRACKS!!!!

And 15 more RC cars!! (Where's the little antennas?)

And I stand by my statement that GT4 is the finest piece of software that I own.
(I wish WinXP was built to that level of quality.)
Better than San Andreas. (PS2)
Better than Doom 3. (XB)
Better than UT2K4 ! (but just barely) (PC)
I could go on and on.

Those "three guys with a passion" might have something good, but they've been at it for four years and don't have much to show for it.

yeah, i said it was tiff from 5th gear also but everyone ignored me. :indiff:
tiff never said gt4 was realistic, but he did say that the difference between rwd cars and fwd cars was there.

three track AREAS. all in all there will be over 10 new tracks.

nevertheless, you get something on those "only" 25 tracks that you get nowhere in GT4, thrilling races against other drivers from all over the world. that is what matters.

by the way, if you look closely, some of the cars have cute little antennas, so you can fell happy!

anyway, LFS only costs 12 pounds per stage and i have followed its development since the beginning 3 years ago. i spent a whole year with the first demo that only consisted of 2 tracks (+reverse direction) and 3 cars.
and the developers listen to their customers a lot as well. people wanted a drag strip, skidpad, autocross area...and they built everything, including an easy to use WYSIWYG editor for the autocross area that enables you to create your own parcours and have auto-x competitions.

Well, when you have 3 guys with a passion, its sad when you expect those 3 guys to have real tracks and real cars espcially since these guys are on a tight budget, and can't just get the license to a course.

4 years and nothing to show? They have alot to show for their work.
3 Guys just beat out GT4 and Forza Motorsports' physics with their tight budget.

Just so you know there are NUMEROUS ps2-to-USB-controller conversion things for the PC that let you use any PS2 controller for the PC. You plut it into the USB slot and then the little piece of hardware can take in two PS2 controllers! They are real cheap to make (3$) to make, but usually are sold for around 20$ on websites or if you ever see it in stores due to supply and demand.

absolutely! i mean you could say that those three guys have started a revolution. its an independant but serious competitor on the sim racing market. sure, without advertising, licences and no retail cd sales are naturally limited, but even without all that it has worked out better than expected.

think of the netcode that is better than anything else except for papyrus', who were a huge team backed by sierra. compare that with EA/ISI/simbinss in F1-200x and GTR.

Sory man, but what that has to do with this thread.... ?? :dopey:

LFS has discussed releasing a track editor in the future ... that alone is a HUGE deal ... forget how many tracks they have *now*, because the potential is there to virtually have unlimited tracks. Heck, I've always wanted to spend a few months building areas of my hometown into a racing game and this would allow me to do so ... man, that's a big deal.

3 years minimum if it will be possible and don't expect an easy to use editor. ;)

anyway, i just created this for S2:

(and which developer allows you to skin your own cars in advance by releasing models, skins and a skinviewer to check them before the release? another point for LFS ;))

Nice. 👍

In S2, there will be a feature to allow you to automaticly download the skins of people you are racing against. :) I really miss autoxing. i cant wait for it again in S2.

the formula V8 cars are basicly like formula nippon cars.

Awesome skin Vladimir. 👍

My driving force has not been in the living room since I tried the S2 demo, and my GT4 CD is collecting dust. It will keep collecting dust until there's a release with proper online racing. (and the physics, especially at low speeds leave a lot to be desired when compared to LFS)

Can't wait for friday :D

I'm eager to see the flag system too.

S2 is COMING OUT In 4 DAYS!!!!

the gt class cars all have around 500hp...
just to show you guys how easy it is to make your own skin: here's one i made in about 3 days with only 2 days experience using Photoshop. 1st skin ever. I havent gotten around to making any skins for the gtr cars.

about the 6 cars in GT4...if u want watched the Indianapolis F1 GP, then u will think GT4 just got a whole lot more realistic. lol
i still miss those bottles on the track! :sly:

if any of you LFS fans here wants my M3 GTR skin, i have just uploaded it at racesimcentral. you can get it here. :)

hahahahaha. oh man that was terrible. would've been real ****ty if the ferarris would've taken eachother out :dunce: :ouch:

ps-LFS ALL THE WAY!!!!! :sly:

LFS is a great game, I use to play it alot, because I got really bored with GT3.The physics in this game are not exactly like a real car, but just about there. Gt4 on the other hand, is realistic to a certain point, and both of these games have actually improved my driving in real life, especially gt4. I play gt4 sometimes, and sometimes I play LFS, and both are great games. I own a 1997 240sx with an sr20det swap. It drives somewhat like gt4, but not exactly. Oh, and one more thing i noticed, when using one of the cars i saw on best motoring, i got damn near the same lap time on tsubuka on GT4.

live4speed
You seriously think GT4 has more realistic physics. Heres a tip, play LFS.

I did...it sucks...not even close to GTR.

And the game is so small and so basic....

GT4 physics are MUCH better than lfs, BUT not every player (90% of them are amateurs anyway) can feel all those amazing details that GT4 has ant LFS doesn't

I'm talking about physics only.

i bet you've never driven a car in real life more than 100 ft. :dunce:

If you think its so basic, i challenge you to a race.

Biased BS....LFS physics are BASIC! There is no bump-slide control and no brake-slide control, also the weight shift feeling is not so sensitive as in GT4.

Physics are nowhere near to GT4.

P.S. Did you try n2 tyres at all????

blablabla, over past years i won many various online f1sim championships, made many new records in various online hotlap competitions (f1,gtr-f12k,gtr latest, etc, etc) and i have been testing various sim-games more than 10 years.I KNOW what is what, you don't need to tell me.

And go back to your hole where you came from, cause you are talking BS.

I have more than enough real life experience and track days skills (i bet you have no clue what it is in RL) LOL

Sorry to burst you're bubble, but having driven one or two cars in GT4 I can say, the handling feels great, but pushing the limit feels crap compared to the real thing. Even though LFS doesn't feature real cars they feel far moer like cars I've driven than GT4's do. ~Have you ever driven a NISMO GT-R LM GT500 racer, I doubt you can floor it out of 2nd gear corner in real life. Try doing that in LFS with the traction control off and it's far, far closer to real life. Have you seen how hard it is to spin a car in GT4 with under 300Bhp, you have to really try, you don't have to really try in real life, or LFS, you just have to push a little too hard. GT4 simluates certain things really well, but it always keeps you in control, as soon as you overstep the mark it goes alll tits up where LFS succeeds.
