Gaah. Too much work. I was at work all weekend, hence no 119 submission. And I'm out tonight, but this looks like fun, so I hope to post. :)

T1: 41.165
T2: 1'25.606

How you guys are so much faster through the first sector I have no idea... Just got to keep experimenting, I guess :boggled:

Second session:

40.691
1'25.088

Need to tidy up the finish, but looking forward to do it. :D

Some more laps and I'm struggling now chopping it down
so far my best save has 40.077 / 1'24.171 ( but I also have a save .023 slower at the line with these splits 40.065 / 1'24.061 :grumpy: )
I really want to max this out as best I can, so looks like I have another .2 - .3 left all in to my own abilities .. but it's fun and a pleasure to chase :)

.. so far I have tried all the colours of Lupo and only the orange left to test .. last one I used was the lime green and its faster than all the others so far :sly:

Will run the orange before the week is through see what it has to offer ;) 👍

And looking for some clarification:

A-The unpainted "sort of" curbs that seem to be cobblestone - part of the track?

B-On the left side before the last turn before the bridge before T1 - to the left of the white line appears to be concrete - part of the track?

C-And lastly, the concrete beyond the curbs after the tunnel I assume is out of bounds.

A-no part of the track
B-no part of the track
c-yes,out of bound

so for all area's you named, no more then two wheels on it.

My first laps:

Oh dear,
41.287
1'26.549
seen faster splits but.....not clean yet.

T1: 41.165

I don't have the fastest t1, but I can explain how to achieve a 40.4 on it, and maybe we could compare several ways of doing it with the other fast guys, since it is possibly the hardest part of this track to do clean and fast.

I don't use 6th gear on the main straight. I reach a top speed of around 196 km/h. I brake quite early to 160 kmh/h, staying on 5th gear, and then use very light throttle or even no throttle to do the first right. Don't let the car go under 150 kmh. If I have a good line at the exit of this corner, I do the next left flat-out. If not, I have a quick lift of the throttle. In the next right, there is no need to brake, lowering the throttle works to get a good approach to the double left. I start to brake to 110 kmh when I am taking the first left. For the second left, lift throttle to get a good exit line. I take a wide line as I approach the last right of the first sector. As usual, I lift throttle as I take the turn, after braking to 105 kmh. I try to take this turn with the help of the rumble strips, and I also try not to let the car go under 100 kmh.

I hope this helps:)

I can do a 41.066 but I can't seem to get rid of any more... I have a sneaking suspicion it's all in the last corner of T1, you have to get it just right to be fast.. If I stay wide, my ghost car sails past me again. But if you try and cut it, there's a massive invisible wall in the way all along the inside :grumpy:

Also, 150kmh around that first corner is damn fast, maybe too fast... :)

It's not that fast, try to stick to the inside of the corner as you turn, while you lift throttle. ;) I can sometimes do that corner close to 160 kmh

Thats good advice.
I would add:
Stay in 5th (as said) and be all over the yellow lines on the left of the course approaching the first turn, then move over to the right, and aim to take as late an apex as possible, but more importantly, to get your two right wheels onto the cobblestones near the right hand wall.
Aiming the car here will give you the correct line to take the next left flat, and then lift and brake for the lefts in the dip, and run out wide to the right, then all the way left before you take the final right hander into T1, using all the track as Kyle said in his first post.
It is very important to carry speed on El Cap, and miss walls of course, somethings i am having great difficulty doing.

Good luck
:irked:👍

Yep same here I stay in 5th to take turn 1 and just a tap on the brake and roll around in 5th at about 96-100mph then its back on the throttle quickly to negotiate the next set of turns 2 and 3 all in 5th gear ..

approaching turn 4 the horseshoe type bend is just lift off the throttle for a split second to adjust and find the line through and then it's back on the power and cut across the right hand rumble flatout! .. then stab the brakes and drop to 3rd gear and roll around the turn at about 60 - 65mph taking a wide line and exit on the right hand side narrowly missing an off at the cobbles and maintaining a good speed all the way .. stay in 3rd gear and redline all the way up the hill and cross over to the far left hand side of the road and judge the braking point nicely and stab it and take the turn! .. ( all or nothing move ) as soon as you start to turn its back on the power full on and pray you make it clean through the turn never dropping below 65mph and power across the bridge narrowly missing the yellow barriers and wall on the left hand side of the bridge then on towards T1 with a very low 40 second split 👍

This car loves to have every last part of the gear used to go faster! .. so do a test lap and take each gear as high as it will go and it will bounce back to the redline! .. make a mental note of the highest speed for each gear before it bounced and gear up 1mph before it is due and you will get more oomph from it ;)

Ok last session tonight and I had to try the Orange one for a few laps and it actually rules and its a sure sign that polyphony have a secret pact with the dutch guys to make the orange cars slightly faster :sly: ... here's my best save anyway ..

40.111 / 1'24.021 ( had a 1'23.914 t2 and stuffed it :grumpy: )

Will defo run it one more time before the deadline
Cheers
Ron.

Oh man! Looking at some of these splits, I'M GETTING OWNED!

I think I have to put in a few more sessions. And many months off GT4 doesn't help... :guilty:

Well I'm lovin' this one. Trying to race and pack is cutting time short, I'm about 2 1/2 hours in so far and I have:

T1 - :40.279
T2 - 1:24.471
I could have had a SLIGHTLY better line for the downhill chicane, but it worked out okay, maybe .1 or so there. Otherwise, time doubtfully permitting I'm done. Great work on chopping this week down Ron 👍

I think I just found out why I am not getting low 40's:dopey:

I can't do the last corner without dropping below 65mph, I guess I must find a better line for it.

And I've been shifting as soon as I reach the redline, in my first lap it looked like it was better and then I didn't think of it anymore.

I'll have more sessions to drop this time, 1'23 is VERY GOOD and you're getting far from me:tup:

If my PS2 hadn't died on me while I was on vacation, I'd SO run this week. Fwd, small, not too much grip - and funky. El Capitan Reverse is hugely underrated.

I always do gear-analysis first thing in every car - what's the best shifting-point and the likes..

Another session, and I think I'm getting good at this.

I did not see any benefit on shifting late, I still get better times shifting early (If I shift late, I can't even start the lap ahead of my ghost)

New splits:
0'40.175 (personal best, but with a small mistake on the double left)
1'24.420 (poor jump before the tunnel)

How do you do the jump before the tunnel? I do it flat-out, going uphill while I'm approaching the left rumble strip, then, as I jump, I shift to 5th gear and steer to the right

Yup!

Sorry this is not race related!!!!

Does anyone know:

I have a PS3. Would I be able to save my replays playing GT4 onto my virtual mem card, then copy that file to a usb memory disc (keychain) then copy it to my computer and submit it here?

thanks

Yes, you would. Though the verifier would need a PS3 too - I assume Ron would be able to verify then?

Never tried to verify any GT4 replays on the PS3 as yet! but I'm willing to test it for you 👍 upload the file at the results and I will transfer it to my PS3 and see how we go from there :)

Thanks for the track tips.👍

40.752
1'25.084

Driving and talking about a unimportant issue (Can we clean up the rabbits housing?now?!!!!!) wasn't good for my last section.

great I will send you one soon. I would think that technically you "SHOULD" be able to verify on either ps2 or ps3 since the file is the same. maybe someone could test verification of the same file on both systems and see if there is a difference.

New splits from me

T1 - 40'578

T2 - 1'24.628

Happy racing,

nige

Had some time to do about 8-10 laps of familiarization:

40'550
1'24.893

40.401
1:24.509

Getting the hang of it, still scrubbing speed with understeer on exit of many turns, gotta take it easy on throttle.

Update:
40.242
1:24.079

Changed my shift points on a couple turns, helped a bit but my final sector could use some work.

Ok here are my first splits for this week

T1: 40.710 ( seen .4##)
T2: 1'24.609

Tricky little bugger lol 👍

I reached my goal, only minor improvement still to be seen.

40.648
1'24.686

:)

Another session and down to:

40.632
1'24.824

Probably my last one, but I might get tempted later, cause I'm still losing a little here and there.

T1: 42.100
T2: 1.27.363
For so far my improvement for today, hope to have more time to practice.

Greetings Le Mans
