Looks like an interesting week.

Saw a 17.6xx but made a mess of it coming in. I'll keep at even though it gets tedious quickly.

I just ran about 100 miles and found several 17.3x with a best of 17.34 but my current fastest save has...

17.445

Maybe if I stop looking up at the trap I'll link it up :dunce:

Finally a Div1 friend at the top just like LUXY (edit update up to post 37) was supposed to look :) well done Erik.

First 20 km are in

17.837

ran 2hours or so and came up with these results and settings

17.020

13.7 12.6
96 96
7 6
7 6
2.0 0.8
0 0
5 5

tranny trick final 4.466
lsd 11 16 5
aids none b.b 4/4

seen a 16.986 once, but fluffed that chickane. can see another .15 in it with a more aggresive last corner. Essentially i attempt one continuous drift for the first corner, intially at low 80'skm/h shift to 4th gear as u near the exiting ripple strip, for the chciakne i try and anticipate the split time presentation and brake a couple of milliseconds before that, cut it fine by using every inch of allowable space and initially take it at 90-93km/hthen the last, drift it slightly in second gear changing to 3rd as u exit;)

first go for me this week...

'17.508

nice splits from Erik and Stevo...ive also seen a 17.362 split but it seems that every damn time i get one that fast i screw up the 🤬 braking point going into the chicane. :banghead:

First session of an hour or so with default settings apart from gear ratios.

17.642

Seems a bit fast for me this time of the week ... I'll have to check my settings :D

I think I'm going to pass on submitting this one. I have a lot to do, but I'm also not getting below 17.7xx. :scared: I have quite literally no clue how to tune, so sorry, Sphinx, but I'm not going to try to learn how to improve a car I don't drive very well. I did some laps with holl01's settings, though, and found just how cruel the game can be. I ran a lap just dirty, barely cutting turn 4, and unfortunately got a tremendous last corner on the same lap. I chased that ghost for at least 50 miles, and ran a lap - get this - exactly .001 slower, that was perfectly clean. Of course it didn't record the clean one because it was slower. Oh, well... anyway, see you in 155, hopefully in arcade mode.

You can save a clean lap which is slower than a dirty one using the "save replay" option instead of "save ghost replay", that way you save all the laps on your last try, including that clean lap you want. And week 155 will not be hopefully arcade mode, it'll be definitely (see post 1).

I had a quick session, and I'm running consistant 17.4's, but I didn't save anything yet. Of course, T1 doesn't count for much, as it's only one corner (or 2 linked corners, if you prefer), and the last sector is much more tricky and we can lose or gain a lot of time here. The setup I got was:
Transmission: tranny trick, auto 1, final 4.400
LSD: 10/15/5
Weight: 0/-50
Brakes: default, I tried some changes but didn't notice anything special
Aids: none
Springs: 15.0/12.5
Height: 100/100
Dampers: 7/7/7/7
Camber: 1.0/0.5
Toe: 0/0 (but I didn't try anything else, so it may need tweaking)
Stabilisers: 6/6

Edit: I just noticed my setup is quite close to Dan's, maybe it means I'm finally getting to understand how this works! However, I didn't drive the way he did: I didn't drift turn 1, so my best T1 yet was 17.39. Actually, I couldn't drift that corner, because the car seemed quite understeery, probably due to having to brake (I'm no expert on drifting), and I can only do the easier drift at the last turn (but I was using 3rd gear, not 2nd as he does). To get a braking point for the chicane, I use the signs at the right side of the track: I brake a bit before I pass the first one.

very good point about the last sector Cmir. i took off .7xx at the line just by changing the line i was running through the last corner. ive been using 3rd gear through the last corner from the beginning.

my setup so far...

6.6 6.6
135 135
4 4
4 4
1.0 0.5
4 4
brakes 3 4
lsd 8 14 5
auto 6
no driver aids

Hi guys, this is my first time racing on the WRS. I've just joined!

My first session (about 2 hrs)

17.769

Not sure how good that is? Better keep working at it!

You can save a clean lap which is slower than a dirty one using the "save replay" option instead of "save ghost replay", that way you save all the laps on your last try, including that clean lap you want.

I found another way of doing this. Chase the dirty ghost but save it and exit. Then go back and reload it. Then when you finish a lap that is just .001 slower than the ghost you can save ghost as you normally would, and it will save the correct (newer) ghost lap rather than resaving the older dirty ghost (you can verify this because it will show the correct time in the save screen).

I prefer this method as I can then load that newer ghost and chase it, whereas you can't do that with replays and there're also the complications of submitting a multi-lap replay (people can see how you cut across the grass before the start for example :D).

You can do that, but in that case it's not as if you had done the clean lap and the faster, dirty lap in the same session. You didn't do that dirty lap in this session, so of course it won't save. It's not a technique, it's just a strategy, as if you turned the playstation off and on to start a new session from the beginning. Anyway, it's a good tip to do that 👍

Welcome to the WRS. That seems like a pretty good time to me but I'm just a mid-level Div II racer, take a look at FASTGUYS to see how you compare overall.

I'm thinkin of having another go at the division very soon but i dont think ill improve much :(

Seems a bit quiet this week. Is everyone off exploring GT5P? Sad to say I'll probably be heading down that road soon. I've by no means mastered GT4 but plan to shift focus (gears?) to GT5P when it comes out. The PS3 got ordered today and should arrive on or around release day. My PSN ID is going to be Strop64 (Strop was already registered apparently). The 64 in the name in no way implies that I was born 44 years ago coz that would make me really old :D

I'm actually hoping we can set up something like the WRS for GT5P. From what I've been reading the online racing isn't exactly refined right now and I've come to appreciate this competition and what it provides.

I just got my PS3 yesterday, GT5P is pre ordered and I have yet to set up the PSN account.

Hey, I was born in 64.
I do feel old lately.
Any reason for the 64 then?

As far as the WRS and GT5P, it would be cool to add a Prologue combo to the same GT4 combo for the week. Those who have Prologue can run both if they so choose to.

Back on topic: I keep running down the lap time bit by bit. Thanks for the pointers guys, thats what the WRS is all about. Good competition that is not against helping out the slower guys. It is competition though, so as they say, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth",

Had quite the hard time driving by my normal style, which is without braking points, so instead of giving up, I took a look to the side of the track to see if I could find anything to judge by. Well, perfect, brake RIGHT AT a certain distance marker, and come out perfect after each straight. Nice!

I think I have a decent setup of suspension, LSD, gearing and braking for myself, now it's just to whittling it down even further. Just finished three consecutively faster laps in a row that felt great, now I'll have a good time furthering that...

EDIT: Just read through the thread. Sounds like I'm pretty slow... I know my last sector isn't too slow, but if you guys are pulling T1s that are that low, I definitely have some work to do somewhere. I know my first sector wasn't as good as I can get it, but I'm definitely not normally doing consistent 17.4s... :scared:

Meh, I might sit out this week.

I did like 10 laps and got so bored I couldn't take it anymore.

And the brakes suck on this thing.
I assume that's why lots of people aren't racing this week. Took a while to get used to for me, as well. You just have to pay attention to what the track markers are telling you, and once you see where you're supposed to brake in each spot, slam on them brakes and you do fine and dandy, almost every lap. If you're going slower or faster than you usually would, take that into account when you look at your brake marker and you come out on the safe side usually. Makes it much less annoying when you are actually braking at a certain point.

What I said, hence the smiley :D Born March 1, 1964 in Adelaide, South Australia. Racing the same WRS in both would be cool but I'm not sure how much overlap there is between cars and definitely there are fewer tracks to choose from.

I'm nearing the end of my patience with this one. Best t of 17.220 and some good 2nd sectors, I'll try one more time this weekend to hook it together.
