Using 5th gear instead of 4th doesn't mean having a greater speed during the corner. The ideal speed to take this corner is 170 kmh, I think. But if you don't reduce to 4th and take this corner at 170kmh in 5th gear, the car will not only be more stable, it will also accelerate much better out of the corner. And when I say shift early, I mean really early: shifting to 5th at 150kmh and to 6th before 200.

Thanks for the advice, CMir and KLR. Seems I'm at quite a disadvantage with the AT this week. We'll see if I actually put in the effort to learn manual, though. Probably not. I should, however, be able to figure out braking points to keep it from sliding too much.

You should most definitely learn manual. It will noticably improve your lap times because you can shift to a lower gear when you want to, rather than slowing down more than is necessary to reach that lower gear, resulting in better acceleration out of the tighter turns.

Some T's from my first session:

T1: 23.911
T2: 53.111

Using Cmir's tips but still far from a 23.6xx at T1 but will hopefully improve. Two things I noticed. You can not turn with this car when a) braking and b) accelarating...

I sure do! Did you know that it's very unsafe to drive that close behind me? You have to keep a safety distance! ;)

Oops, I drove past you instead. ;)

Ran for another hour tonight and picked up some new splits -

23.678
53.041

Carlos' shift early tip is a good one. :sly: I picked up about 1.4 at the line.

Will be back for more this weekend, this is a spectacular combo! 👍

Kevin

I ran about .25 faster and realized on the replay I cut the annoying left kink before the first tunnel. So nothing new from me. I know I really should learn manual, but old habits die hard, and it would be difficult to learn in a week anyway. Auto works fine most of the time, but if I ever get a wheel, I'm definitely learning MT. More real and fun there, but not on the DS2.

Damn, EDK, you'd better be careful! Those are some fantastic times, and they could get you promoted if you don't slow down. :sly:

You're very welcome! You should definitely learn to use the manual transmission... But, I was shifting just at redline for the most part in my first session, not going into it at all, but right where the line starts, sometimes holding on a bit longer, sometimes shifting sooner. The AT normally shifts right at the redline though, doesn't it? So, it's not as bad as it could be when people will hold the gear until it bounces off of the actual limiter, well into the redline... :)

Yep. Shooting for a late apex with this car is very important so you can get out of the corner on the throttle, not needing to turn very much anymore. Think straight shot out from the late apex.

Now, to do some more runs... Back in a bit with improved splits.

EDIT: Man, when you really shift early you REALLY realize how crappy this car's powerband is once you accidentally dip down below 4000rpm... LOL.

More to come tonight I think, but here're some splits for now.

T1: 23.764
T2: 52.894

LUXY updated.
Struggling bigtime with my AT handicap, and travel to France come sunday won't help either :ouch: too bad cos I really like this track and the car should be negotiable. Also I spent what time I had yesterday on testing for a challenge I'd like to set up in GTP for all without GT5P or with way too much time on their hands :)

Blah, threw away a couple of darn good laps on the faster section after T2 trying to go even faster over the crest before the final right hander...

Something faster for now, still whittling, although I should've and was planning on stopping a while ago... :dopey:

T1: 23.766
T2: 52.896 with a couple tenths off at the line.

I have a 23.6 T1 followed by a 52.7 that I've been chasing in my mind for the past 45 minutes, basically... Just keep messing it up somewhere along the line. Next stint I'll find grab the rest I'm looking for, and I'll make sure I get that session in. Maybe for that session I won't be running it after a short night's sleep and right when I should be going to sleep, as opposed to earlier in the day...

FUN STUFF!

EDIT: By the way, EDK... You're a top D2 driver when you want to be man, simply flying. I don't think you'll manage to keep hiding amongst D3 for much longer... 👍 👍

Great times EDK! I realised that if I want to keep up with you I'll have to switch to manual gearing. So I did! For the first time ever in GT4 (and probably every other race game i've played) I drove in manual.

It really feels like moving up a level. Can't say it's more fun at the moment but it does already result in beter times! Just a modest 0.1 over my previous best lap but I don't think I will have much trouble doing better. I really screwed up that last turn.:grumpy:

Splits:
T1: 23.877
T2: 53.419

Nice improvement at T2. 👍

I made the same change back in week 130 I think it was, Jag at Apricot Hill. It makes a bigger difference on weeks when you need revs to control the car, or weeks like this one, when you need unconventional shift points and you are not able to set the gearing to optimize it. It probably helped you a lot at the bottom of the hill between T1 and T2, I would guess the auto tranny was getting confused in that area. :dopey:

You might want to change your sig too. :sly:

I'll try to give you some new ones to chase this weekend. :mischievous:

Can't believe this is my first attempt at this combo. Doh!!
25.016
55.277
The weekend is yet to come.

Edit: I'm chasing Kenny again!
24.425
54.792

That's me in your mirror there Kenny.

Edit#2: Move over Kenny, I'm comin' through!
24.273
53.901

I had a morning session and improved t2 and final time after scewing up the first section.

24.313
54.063

Its still early.

Finally got around to trying this combo. First few laps I was miles off in braking points and the car just wouldn't turn. But after some track time started to make some headway.

23.869
53.197

It's funny how on my first laps I thought it was an understeering pig, but once I got the hang of how its reacts to brake and throttle it actually rotates quite nicely.

Just managed to have a couple of laps. Will probably be submitting soon as I'm off on holiday soon!

T1 24.062

T2 53.883

Enjoying this one now that I'm getting ontop of the understeer.

I suppose it's about time I post some splits, eh?
T1 - 24.878 24.571
T2 - 57.000 55.598

...definitely need to improve them. lol

Indeed it does! 👍

Liking this more and more. Killer combo, Sphinx. 👍 Pushing this car often slows you down because it doesn't accelerate as well with steering input, as I have recently discovered. Take it easy and laps become faster. This is still with AT (I must be pretty good to get these T's with that handicap, right? :sly:)

T1 - 24.158 (:boggled: I've seen a 23.xxx once, and that was yesterday.)
T2 - 53.264

Flubbed the finish, but this is fine for the moment.

My first session was total garbage :dopey: Just mucked around with the first turn, hit or miss for sure. Here is my second meager try

23.904
52.961

I've had some 23.7x so if I can string one of those up I'll be good.

You forgot to update my time, Steven. 👍 Not that it makes a lot of difference; I'm still lagging behind.

had a go at this on wednesday and managed these splits

xx.128
49.778

this car is a weird one, and what u need to do to achieve the limit is hard to see, weather to glide, or drift, hard to say. was chasing a certain sec ond barrier but pulled up short

I know you're a bat out of hell Dan, but 3 seconds faster at t2? For the first time ever I don't believe someones posted splits.

Are you sure you did not mean to say that you tried to join the human race "but pulled up short" ?

My humble splits in the presents of greatness.

24.208
53.629

Edit: almost forgot, If I don't have to submit a replay...........49.777

Had a go again this morning.

23.876
53.678

gtbadboy, with that 2nd split its only a layer of paint between us. 👍
If you combine the other t1 and this t2, well, you have me beat big time.👍

New splits from my session today:

T1: 23.629
T2: 52.810

Still more time to take. I have switched back to my DFP now btw (yay!). Seems to me that DFP is the way to go this week if one can choose.

I need practice for a LAN meeting next weekend! so I will be running a few laps in this tonight, but don't expect any decent splits as I'm totally converted to GT5 now and all my GT4 abilities are long since out the window I fear :(
This is just something to give me a feel of the physics again 👍 Hope to be able to find something with some decent effort :)
Cheers
Ron.

Dan, you might want to adjust your car settings to -20% rather than +20%.

Sorted and LUXY updated.

Well I wish (I'd be there with you lot and) you and Michael and Venari and all the others that go to Jan's a very good trip and lots of fun in the LAN weekend.

This will be my last LUXY update for the combo and for next week's as well, as I'll be off to France till the 4th of May. I leave you in the trusted hands of Quik/Steve as far as the board is concerned. Thank him for his help
