Oh boy am I in deep, deep trouble this week. I finally sat down last night for my first serious practice session. I figured I'd just try for a T2 practice session, focusing on getting times down at least to what my D3 compatriots are doing.
So I drove it a few times to familiarize myself, the drove a couple hard attempts. Finally got a good clean run on T2 and looked at the time to find 1'18. I had an inkling that wasn't all that great, but then I looked at some notes I'd scribbled from the week 6 leaderboard, dragged out all my toes and fingers, did some calculations, and quickly realized that my time wasn't even in the same universe as an actual competitive time!

I felt the first trickle of sweat of my brow. So I hunkered down and ran it again. And again. And again. And again (lather, rinse, and repeat many, many times).

I finally crossed T2 at 1'10. How the heck can I be so far off?!?!?! This week's race is Nurburgring with a Model T, right?

I figure if I ever manage to get an actual entire clean lap together, my best hope will be to get a point in the "boy he sure drives lousy, but by some miracle his car didn't catch on fire" category. Nurburgring and I are not destined to be friends. Acquaintances, perhaps, in the same vein as the Hatfields and McCoys are acquaintances. But not friends. Which is too bad, because I like the car. I even like a lot of the track. I think my mistake was going into my practice session knowing what time I was shooting for. If I could have just gone for getting clean laps first instead of trying to push for every second, I may have been more settled. Ah well, we'll see what the weekend will bring.
