This sound like fun, also I have found that more then just this car will have
more horsepower with semi-racing exhaust than racing exhaust when a
supercharger is put on the car. Like the Toyota Celica.

Really? Nice observation then, AC! :sly: And as a personal note, supercharger is a cooler name to turbo, at least when I say/hear/read it. :dopey:

Yeee-Ha! This little Ham gets fast here...

And about the Exhaust-power issue - I think it's a glitch in the game. I mean, a Turbo with Racing exhaust will give you (I think) the same power. Therefore, I suppose that the game takes the "Supercharger w/ R. Exhaust" as "Turbo w/ R. Exhaust"

Oh, and setup:

(Front/Rear)
Stock front springs, rear are now just like front (I'll probably soften the front some more)
60/65 Height
2/2 Bound
4/4 Rebound
1.0/0.0 Camber
0/0 Toe
3/4 Anti-roll
8/4 (!) Brakes
10/25/5 LSD
Auto 11 w/ Shortened 6th (Just a very little bit)
0/0/0 Aids
0 Ballast, 0 Balance

Comments about the setup: I basically took the settings Rob posted, and adjusted them a bit. I like a hard rear and soft front, even on 60/40 Weight distribution. I found out that a lower front is also nice here. I found that Rob's 1/1 1/1 Dampers made the car too wobbly for me - for every turn I made, I had 4seconds where the car "wobbled" (Anyone's got a better word?) in the direction of the turn. Weight-transfer was VERY slow, so I hardened them. I also added the LSD, even though it's not neccessary at all. I also tried TCS on, but this simply killed the car - on various testing I did, it even spun the wheels at 6th gear. Therefore, TCS on simply killed it - slow accelleration, crappy top speed, and the fun-factor was gone. So off it goes. Didn't even try ASM. Also, while I was working at eliminating wheel-spin, I discovered that this car can take 8/4 on the brakes - it helped a lot.

Fun this week: Extreme amounts of it. Almost like Week 71. Good car, but the track isn't good for it. Midfield is for race-cars. I have to agree with Hotboy, it's a waste. But still, the car itself makes up for it.

Darren, drop by that Caterham dealer of yours and send me one, will ya?

And as a personal note, supercharger is a cooler name to turbo, at least when I say/hear/read it. :dopey:
It's also a different device.
Quickly : a turbo is in a turbine which rotates thanks to exhaust gases. That's the reason why it requires a minimum rev (usually 2000 rpm) to work.
A supercharger has the same effect (compressing the air/fuel mix) but it rotates because it's linked to the crankshaft and thus works from 0 rpm.
Superchargers were not widely used recently until Mercedes put one into the SLK Kompressor (kompressor is german for supercharger, the french equivalent would be compresseur volumétrique).

Kompressor - a device that, well, compresses stuff. A Supercharger does that, but so does a turbo... Dunno. But weren't Superchargers always used on muscle-cars?

Superchargers are used a ton on muscle cars. The Shelby mustang in the game is a blast to drive with the supercharger. those two were made for one another. The Ford Lightning comes stock with a supercharger, in real life. I test drove one a few years back. Superchargers don't 'cut in' like turbos, so you get a more linear acceleration. I always loved the setup of Mad Max's car....

*Waits patiently for Dan to post his settings*

*Waits, but improvises meanwhile*

I got a rather nice line on the 1st&2nd corner-combo - on a run without wheelspin, it's the fastest I could find: From the outside, brake hard, hit the inside curb, floor it all the way out, then back in (while accellerating) and out. Easy as pie.
Casie, Holl01, other Div1ers: Could anyone post a guide to the track? I just learned it today...

EDIT: To PimpF: Yeah, it is - I managed to cut a whole second off the time only by adjusting the brake-balance and minimizing LSD interference.

We love this car, because it's British!
It's usually hand-built (in RL), by Brit's.

Yep, Right on Neil. :D

just dont' let clarkson build yours. :sly:

I saw that, I don't think I've ever laughed and cried so much at the same time?

what is this thing? it's not a car, that's for sure. no wonder you're not allowed to enter it into gt4 races. 290hp in a 335k car? more like a superbike with some extra wheels.

Fireblade, As in Honda CBR Fireblade so yes your right about the bike part. It's basically a bike engine screaming round the track with a couple of extra wheels bolted on trying to tear Bob's face off, poor chap. :D 👍

I've got my best result's so far by using the stock suspension but then I've always been crap with gran turismo suspension tuning?

Back soon with some splits.

You up for another 'tar battle again this week Neil? :trouble:

Darren.

I'll have to see how RL time pressures pan-out Buddy! I may not have a lot of free time this week.
And I don't like (potentially)losing Frank when I can't say that I've tried my hardest and put a descent amount of time in.

However, I have done 5 laps with the Cat from my garage (already semi-set up for Tsukuba wet @290Hp). I didn't play with the settings at all, and got these with it!

T1 22.815
T2 45.109

A fair amount of time to find I think, as the LSD is letting too much wheelspin happen at the moment, plus the gearbox needs sorted. The suspension is pretty good, and the brake balance.
We'll see if I have either the time or the patience to fettle it.

Neil

Setting up the Kitty is the problem. I'm still tinkering, but my original setup produced the best results so far. I think the LSD and the gearing need some extra time.

5 more laps, still using stock suspension and the replays only showing 272HP but 290 in the garage. That's more than enough for me anyways as after checking my latest ghost for cleanliness, (so far the kitty's stayed out of the litter), it looks more like a drift demo.....And I ain't no DriFtER BoI! :D

T1 22.477
T2 45.222

With plenty more to come hopefully. 👍

Neil no wanna play! :(

Darren.

probably a tyre issue i'd say, but he will probably have made a mistake rather than be a bad gtp lad.

i suppose that really depends on if its a screw, roots, or centrifugal blower.
centrifugals are just a simple impeller driven by engine RPM to force more air into the engine... these generally make very poor boost a low rpm and exponentially more at higher rpm. so they do feel "laggy" on the low end.
You do however never get the instant rush of power that a turbo will provide... but its not the linear gain that chargers are more known for.
And that comes from the roots or screw type blowers, which are essentially airpumps run off the crank. So they can have higher and more steady boost pressures accross the entire range. As soon as you drop the clutch you've got full boost.

But I suppose that's enough engineering jargon for one thread.
carry on.

Try these on for size...he he he :trouble:

T1 22.160

Anyone who can go faster than that needs to be burned at the stake! IMHO. ;)

I Need sleep and my thumbs are bleeding.

G'night.

Thanks:), yes I tried alot of cars but the one that sounds the coolest is the '54 Vette with over 500ft-lb:drool:.

Flat-out
A quick search on google gave this which explains it better than I could.

Yeah I like that website alot:). Also here are my splits(please don't burn me:nervous:).

T1-21:851
T2-43:264

Can someone please tell me how you set the cars weight distribution. Please give me and example of how to move it to the front or the back.

My interpretation for the front would be to set the dial to +5 and to set it to the rear -5 for example. Am I wrong? Thanks for any help.

This is nice, another GTmode race which for me are far more engaging then the arcade races.

Tentative splits:
T1: 21.954
T2: 43.2xx

I'm a little disappointed in how GT4 deals with the physics of this car. It gives you the feel that you're using a glider around the track. Traction is very limited, it's hard to explain, for this combo the DFP is ideal. Trail braking, and feeding in power while straitening out the wheel is crucial in superfast T times. Also don' switch at the redline, pay attention to the torque and hp curve for those of you that haven't.

SHould be fun, now where am I losing so much time in T2.

Yes I saw that too, because of the supercharger you need to change gears
before redline or you will lose speed. It does not look like your losing speed to me.

Revised clean splits.
T1 21.662
T2 42.981

A bit of time left in it maybe the turn before T2 can be taken a little more aggressive. However I shanked the hairpin pretty bad, trail braking into that turn is very hard with the DS2. Lost at least 3 tenths maybe more on overall time. Theoretically about 5-6 tenths in it for me for maximum performance (I sound like Fernando Alonso "Maximum" lmao).

First splits, although these are stock settings. All that has changed so far is the tranny. And no TCS/ASM :D.
After 3 laps:

T1 - 23.366
T2 - 45.232

Good fun combo, heaps of time to shrug off yet.

*Waits for a good set-up*

I'm back in this thing!

Did some JGTC to spice up my DFP skills and I'm ready.

This is an excellent combo, very fast car and one of my favorite tracks 👍

auto - 11

no aids and no LSD, the LSD seemed to do the exact opposite and give me more wheelspin...

the setup i came up with so far, works ok for me, but far from perfect...

one
i took andy's settings and took her out. better handling but still way to much spin for me, as i have trouble controlling it exactly with the ds2

two
i decided the thing to do - without tcs and lsd - to reduce wheel spin was to change the tranny, which i did: auto 25

three
much better (a secret better to hide from the competition but this is gtp so there it is) but now i feel cornering is not fast enough, especially the out-ofs. so i do a few VERY slow laps just to look at apexes and stuff

four
i follow up the real slow laps with one sort of fast lap and guess what: immediate improvement of my fastest time! this promises something for the rest of the week. i keep thinking of what everybody tries to teach me here in gtp about the importance of race lines. thanks to all for that!

23.688 - 45.734

ps to cyril: are you telling us about the title of this week's race or is it just for you? :-)

ps to cyril: are you telling us about the title of this week's race or is it just for you? :-)

Well, I thought everybody would have understood after daan's post.

In "The Prisoner" (TV series from the 70's), Patrick McGoohan drives a Lotus Seven. He is trapped in a village where people are called by numbers instead of names, and some lines have become very famous :
- Who is number one ?
- You are number six.
- I am not a number, I am a free man.

So since we're using the Caterham (new maker of the Seven since 1973), I used the first sentence as a reference to this series. It's also linked to racing, because the big question every week before the results are posted is "who will be number one ?"
