Umm did you watch the same vid as the rest of us? It was a 6 car race only difference was the players AI car was the only one that pitted.
I just watched the video with my blinds closed and now I noticed that. :indiff:

And some more..

After watching video tgsgt4-3.mpg, I've come to the conclusion that the video was shown in B-spec mode. It was not a replay.

You can reach the same conclusion after watching him click the "B-Spec mode" icon at 1:08 ;)

No no guys, what I meant was..
Say for Egs, the point that 9mm raised. If there is other pitcrews visible. And 2 cars pit in at the same time. And If the PitCrew Animation on both is Same.. That would look a little unrealistic. I mean as I said, not that it matters. That looked so friggin awesome, that pitcrew animation. There shouldnt be anything that puts it off like exactly the same reactions and animations everytime, would put it off a bit.
But that Running down the pit members (phrase) was real funny!! :)

Here's the thing, in some races you are going to have to pit and in some b-spec pics we can see that all cars have pitted so each car must have a pitcrew and you would have to imagine that if you follow an AI car into the pits, that you're crew along with theirs will be there too. We first saw the pit-crew a year ago so PD have plenty of time to perfect and develop on it, I even love the fact they have the lollipop fully performing his job, BUT I don't see any jackman anywhere.

I imagine you could go in the pits at anytime. Or will they have a light system. Nah I doubt it, that's like hardcore GTR or something.

Interesting idea about controling your car in the pits. It would make sense to have it in. Think about it, you would have to make sure you don't speed in the pits, or you'll get a penalty. That means the use of a pit button, no doubt. Then, you would have to stop your car in the right spot, or this could mean your team would have to work harder, thus giving you a longer pit stop.

Good idea. 👍

I don't see any jackman anywhere.

Gt cars don't need a jack to be lifted. The have an hydraulic lifting system integrated to the car... I had the chance to see this system work in person and it's pretty cool actually. :) In the other hand, F1 cars and factory cars don't, so they need the jack. I wonder if the pitstop will work the same way... kinda silly.

I think it's very unlikely that there will be more than one pit crew animation. In the first vid you see the Skyline GT racer pull into the pits and not need a jack as it already has it's hydraulic rams to lift it. But later on you see the AC Cobra in the pits, and that to did not require a jack. I think this just shows that there will not be more than one pit crew animation. Which points to PD wanting to keep the number of polygons on screen down to prevent slow down. This then raises the question, will we see other cars pit crews come out, or will AI cars just pull in and then drive out after 10secs?

I also think it's unlikely that you will be in control when driving into the pits. This just adds too many variables for PD to try and programme for. However it would be a really nice touch.

Cheers

Jamie

Did anyone notice that in the pit stop of the Skyline in the first video, the pitlane looked pretty narrow. The pit-crew and the Skyline is almost taking the whole width of the pitlane. Imagine that if there are other cars that pit in and runs over your crew cuz his stop is in front of yours. :P

that would probably result in a wierd graphical glitch (the car going right through your pit crew or magically appearing ahead) since it's all prerendered animations.

Pre-rendered animations would basically be motion caps, the animations were hand drawn by pd. They aren't motion caps or pre-rendereds.

that wasnt my point.

my point is that the animation routines are scripted to run when you pit. They don't happen on the fly within the game. Therefore throwing A.I. cars into the mix can result in wierd glitches.

I really want to know how PD will make the pitting for AI cars. What if you want to do a endo with a friend, will one of you have a pitcrew while the other doesnt? I kind of believe there will be a crew for the other cars. And I'm sure gt4 will support lan parties, allowing one person to have a pitcrew wouldn't be right :indiff:

Yeah, me too. But what about multiplayer and the pits?

I dont know. I'm sure if you were to set up a lan party, everyone would get a crew seeing how everyone has their own ps2 to render the crew. I dont want it were the user's car has a crew and the others dont. That would just mess up the whole experience for me.

You know, in Post #25 on Page 2 from Zonekill, that right picture might just be our track preview of El Capitan. I think someone talked about it, and courtesy of the videos CobraGT provided us, it's going to be damned tough. At first, it seemed pretty weird. I thought it was like Hungaroring (The Grand Prix of Hungary) or something. But based on the scenery, I think it looks very much like El Capitan. Should be a blast to race.

I didn't see any videos or anything, but if some series will have certain pit styles. For example, the 6 or 8 second pitstops in touring car racing (compared to NASCAR and V8 Star's 15-20 sec. stops), or anything like that. Don't know if certain series will have certain pit procedures, but it should be a hot one.

I watched the videos last night and I notice that the Lollipop guy does do his job fully... that's a nice touch...

The third one is painfully obvious it's B-spec mode as it has lots of other UI around the screen that is B-Spec only...

They still need somebody in the pit crew to plug the nitrogen air line into the car on operate the on board jacks. Maybe all the cars have on board nitrogen bottles and a driver operated switch as well. :sly:

I also noticed that in the Skyline, Cobra and 787b pit vids that there was no re-fueling pit crew member. Maybe you have to specifiy fuel to be topped up?

Also in the 787b vid the whole fuel gauge is missing from the UI. Maybe because it is a 2 lap race, or maybe because it is arcade mode

Edit...and the tyre wear indicator is missing too!

That lends more credence to the refueller guy staying on longer for more fuel... if he's not there for any fuel...

In that vid the guy shouldn't've pitted anyway as it was a 2 lap race... but did so to show us the goods!!

The AI in the bspec vid looked great. They didn't actually go in a line, each car had its individual business going on. I believe this is a good sign of great AI.
