I'd been wondering this point for a while, as it was relatively easy to get to 300mph in previous generations of GT, but not in this 5th instalment. So I thought I'd put together a thread for all you total speed freaks out there who have managed to hit this magical number.

First off, two rules,,,

  1. NO REDBULLS - Any car other than the X's can be submitted, as it's par for the course now that these cars will easilly hit this target.
  2. Photographs or replay videos must be submitted in order to get into the list. Anyone can say " I hit 302 in a,,," but proving it is a different matter. Like the old saying in here goes, pics or it didn't happen.

Photographs must be full screen, and contain the car on circuit, speed (preferably in mph, from a replay file) in the bar below and the cars list showing the car you were driving. (opponents list with "car" selected, rather than "driver") Unclear, fuzzy or altered images will be disregarded and your entry will not count. Obviously these will al likely be drafting runs, but that is pretty irrelevant. How you get there is not something I'll be interested in, just get there! >:0)

I will update the list with rankings accordingly.

So, here's my contribution:

The 300mph Club Register.
1. Smuttysy
Bugatti Veyron - 256mph
2. Smuttysy
Mercedes Benz SL600 (R230) - 346mph
3. Smuttysy
Nissan R92CP - 330mph
4. Smuttysy
Mercedes C63 AMG - 309mph

Anyone care to join me? (Remember, NO Redbulls!)

Assuming there's quite a few of you I may have to split the league tables into Production Models and Race Modifieds at a later date, but for now will all go into one list.

Not really on topic but I find it funny there is a Eunos Roadster in that lobby. :D
Seems a bit out of place ... and using one on that track

That's nothing, there was a guy in the same lobby later on with a Civic type R on comfort softs, who also claimed it would do 256!
I think he may have been talking kph!
Needless to say, both were left behind looking rather silly. PP was locked at 664, so the Veyrons weren't as devastating as the noobs thought they would be, so most dropped out. This SL will do 266mph without draft, and fell under the pp limit too!

I can't see very many cars doing this? but if the Benz seen in the picture can do it, then we are in for a suprising list

I think anything capable of "naturally" hitting 250-260mph, with revs left to spare should be capable of doing this. I'm thinking Ford GT, Cadillac Cien, Pagani Zonda, VW Nardo and of course the Enzo and Veyron. Then there's all the LM Prototype cars, R390, R89C, Jaguar XJ and Minolta etc. These will be the easy ones. (well, easier at least)

The right draft at the right time, with the right gearing and anything could be possible.

Cadilac Cien Has done 300 mph was draughting though.

If you're going 309mph in that picture I would assume the Veyrons and the Enzo are also going more than 300. Unless you've been drafting them for ages and just catching up.

Really? MPH? Kilometres per hour!!! use the Metric system, the Metric system!!

Nah I prefer the "normal" system. Trollolololol.

Like I said in the OP, saying it is one thing, proving it is quite another. I also stated that it doesn't matter how you get to the 300mph, just get there, then prove it to get onto the league.

Drafted the whole length of the tunnel, I haven't really paid much attention to what the others were doing, speedwise, as to be really honest I don't care that much - it wasn't me driving them. :sly:

(EDIT: a quick replay rewatched shows that the Enzo was doing 280-290, the lead Veyron hit 295 with the other two doing around 285. Like I said, at this PP level the Veyron is not superfast unless it's drafting)

Here's the video of the run:

Didn't notice until it was too late that the damned lamp was shining on the tv!

"normal system" ?? Do you have any idea what percentage of the world uses imperial any more? The "normal" System, is Metric now. Don't be ignorant.

He was trolling, and he obviously got what he wanted (someone to get mad). But anyway I hit 301 with my Enzo but didn't get a picture. I'll get one next time

That Benz has 1025 hp

Don't be ignorant, use a actual system used by almost the whole world.

What are you talking about? The imperial system is so amazing. When I'm working on my car its so much easier to reach for my 52/64" socket

:P

Are you serious? A mile is 80 chain and 1760 foot, a kilometer is 1000 meters, and a centimeter 10 millimeter.

That Benz hits peak power quite early, at 309, you got it hitting the limiter. Try to lengthen the final and you might hit 312 or 313 ;)

Maybe not all of us like the Metric system, like myself.

Sorry we can't please you.

You'll notice from the video that I'm not even close to hitting the limiter. The "change gear" light didn't even come on, so I hadn't even got into the redline, miles from the limiter!!
I know there's much more to come from this car, it just needs the absolute perfect conditions to do this. This was in a random race, with no pre-arranged "head off and then let this guy past" setup.
It could, and no doubt would, achieve a heck of a lot more by pre-arranged drafting methods, from the back of a redbull, but this was achieved by means beyond my direct control.
Yes, peak power is much lower, but it will keep pulling all the way to the redline during draft, the level of aggression obviously deteriorates the closer you get to it, but this fact is also pretty irrelevant, as you have to overcome aerodynamic and weight drag factors. The 309 was achieved way beyond peak power, but within the range of the engine and gearboxes output, therefore it could have gone faster still, given a longer run up. The gearbox has a theoretical top speed of 351mph, (That's what the "Max Speed" figure represents in the top right of the transmission page) which it will obviously never achieve, because that also assumes that the engine will run all the way to the end of the redline.

Happy new year, by the way. :)

Now, with Route X I'm surprised nobody else has put anything towards this. I know I've gone even faster than the 309mph from the first post with the same SL600, and have even hit 277, (with 4000rpm left to go) in the Silverado in arcade mode, so there are definitely more cars to add into this.

The Veyron is now capable of hitting 300+ without drafting, come on folks! Show the world your fastest achieved speeds!!

(I'll be looking through a couple of my recent replays, as I've got the SL at somewhere around 340mph)

(EDIT: - Found and posted later on this page)

Can u please tell us setting/mod you did on Veyron? My Veyron is only capable of 287mph will all power mods, high final gear ratio, less downforce and lowered height.

My bugatti can hit 300+ in the speed test.. I will upload a photo when I get home for you guys :) or even a YouTube video :)

The Veyron settings are not my own, and are pretty well known in this forum, but to give you an idea:
Solid suspension
Front ride height at its highest, rear at lowest
Adjust your gearing to suit.

I would be more interested in what a car can reach by itself, without any drafting.
You can get a fiat 500 upto 250mph with careful drafting, bumping, patience and luck.

(Apologies in advance for the relatively poor quality video and the defaulted Youtube soundtracks)

New SL600 Record - 346mph

(Speed hit at 3:21)

New additions to the 300mph club:

Bugatti Veyron - 356mph

(Speed hit at 2:53)

Mercedes C63 AMG - 309mph

(Speed hit at 3:20)

Nissan R92CP - 330mph

(Speed hit at 3:44)

Likewise.
I've managed to get my veyron up to 298mph with no drafting (I've never properly tried high speed drafting before). Couldn't manage to squeeze that extra 2mph out, but I've heard that 300+ mph is easily accessible if you know how to tune a car properly (I don't, but I try :sly: ).
