What exactly are they trying to "protect" here? It certainly doesn't protect the gamer who spent hours of his life playing the game only to lose his data & not be able to load it back onto his machine now does it!

Sony & PD EPIC FAIL!

I am all for save data tied to your psn account.

Besides the fact that backups work only for the original ps3 and not a new one, I have not been able to do a backup, and I tried multiple times, always fails at about 98%, even after erasing a lot of unnecessary demos, fixing the file system, etc... I can't believe Sony can't give us a decent backup utility.

Anyway, I hope PD listen to us on this.

Same hear I'm on a slim and have never been able to use the backup utility without it having an error halfway through. Already had my save corrupted once only hours after completing like the wind in A and B Spec when some one tripped over the cord in the middle of a save before a race. So frustrating I had to stop playing earlier this evening due to wind and the lights flickering where I'm at for fear the save would get corrupted a second time and i will have to start from scratch a second time.

So I Backed it up right before my ssytem caught a YLOD. When I get a new ps3 and restore will everything be the same.

This copy protected save is a joke, I have a remanufactured PS3 slim given to be by Sony when my old ones Blu-Ray laser failed. I'm now coming up to the end of the 3 months warranty they give you on replacement PS3's and it's ready to go again, it takes ages just to read discs, crashes games and gives all sorts of messages and error codes when loading fails. Now the dilema is, thanks to Sony and PD's stupidity, do I just write off all the progress I've made in GT5 (level 25 A-spec and B-spec, over 250 cars etc.) and get yet another replacement or do I hope a patch to sort this protected save nonsense is released in the next week or so then get a replacement, or just leave it until a patch is released hoping my PS3 holds out that long then buy a brand new console. Sony sure know how to piss people off.

#1 priority. I hope mine never crashes, however in the event it does I'd like my data backed up so I dont start from scratch.

Last week, I was playing GT5 for hours, then quit the game to watch a BR movie. After the movie was over, I checked here on the Planet and read about the latest firmware update being available so I went back out to the living room and downloaded the update. It started the download and said it would restart my PS3 when it was done. I switched the input on my TV so that I could watch TV while the update was downloading and installing. About 15 minutes later (guessing here) I noticed my G25 wheel go through it's centering exercise which it does when the PS3 starts up so I figured the update was completed. When I switched the TV back to the input where the PS3 is connected, all I saw was a black screen. The PS3 didn't respond to the sixaxis controller at all. Rebooting the PS3 with the normal switch on the front didn't work nor did the reboot with the rocker switch in the rear. Unplugging the unit and plugging it back in had no effect either .... all I had was a blank, black screen and all I could think about was my GT5 save at nearly Level 30. I was coming unglued with remorse and frustration. I could easily buy another PS3, but the loss of all my hard work and dedication to the game is the only thing that was on my mind.

The bright side of the picture is that the next morning, the PS3 started up with a normal picture and everything, as it turned out , was intact. I was so relieved, I can't describe it. That being said ..... none of my fear, frustration and angst would have been necessary had I been able to save my game for such an unforesen calamity.

Some of us also race under our original ID as well as a separate Team ID for team events. Not being able to share my game between the 2 accounts is a major bummer in my mind.

Next update is crap to be honest. European sls competition. Was hoping like he said it would be the back up save data feature. Well hope we get it soon!!!

Not looking good so far......@ all. I see no game data when I restore. Im So F.ucking Piss Right Now.

If I want to upgrade my HD on my ps3 fat, can I copy everything over including GT5 save files outside of the PS3? Or do I have to wait til the back up patch comes out?
I would like to upgrade to a SSD if I can find one that runs cold enough.
