GT5 Compliment thread

I play Gran Turismo 5 instead Forza 4.Why?Cause in Forza you can rewind the time to fix things and there's less cars than Gran Turismo 5.This is one of the reasons I prefer PS3 than Xbox 360

+1 I have a friend who has forza, and he says it very arcadey. And how is rewinding time good? If you make a mistake you should pay for it. And crash.

Or you can, you know, not do that. It's not a mandatory feature.

I won't buy 2nd and 3rd DLC packs, too expensive

Doh! Kind of missed the point there didn't you. 👎

Caterham 7 at the Nordscheife, suns coming up.....all my real world worries seem so very distant.

Thanks PD for giving me the dream of doing this for real in the not so distant future.

You need to get Forza then mate if that's what you prefer.
End up on your roof online In Forza and it's game over. No reset.
In GT you can't roll your car online. Like you say, if you make a mistake you should pay for it. I totally agree with you.

Rewind can be switched off in the menu BTW.

Nice one.

Gran Turismo is some kind of a strange, wonderful phenomenon.

When it first came out in 1997, I think it took most people a while to "get it." In a world where racing was all about powerful street machines, supercars or the hottest race cars, a game with Mazda Miatas in it seemed way out of place. But it eventually sank in that Gran Turismo wasn't all about winning, but about cars, all about cars. GT eventually grew into something... living. When you finally got it, that Kaz wanted you to explore the whole world of cars as well as motorsports - and who else would put delivery carts in a racer? - you began to see that he loved cars, all cars, and he wanted you to share in that sense of wonder he had since childhood.

Each game became progressively better at seducing you into a love affair with all things automotive. They ooze polish and panache and quality. Each one is a living work of art. Sure, GT5 is the odd member of the family with some very strange warts. But when you get past them, you should get taken into the experience, and GT5 is very much an experience. Each car is yours. You feel connected to it, especially with a good FFB wheel. Like a good PC sim, racing eventually becomes intuitive, and you begin to sense what pro racers experience on the track in their cars. In Arcade Mode, where there are no credits, or XP, or prizes of any kind, the only reward is the race. And I've been racing various cars on various tire compounds, cycling through them by the hundreds, racing in the rain and darkness, and saving replays. The reward is taking a car to the limit around a turn as I try to edge past a competitor, and win or not, the experience is something sublime and tangibly real.

The spirit of the game is something else, when you can cruise around Tokyo or the Nurburgring and simply enjoy the scenery, watch the sunset become darkness, or watch fireworks at night for a while. Browse through the garage as smooth Jazz plays and admire the clean lines of both Premium and Standard cars. My cars.

There just isn't anything like Gran Turismo.

Well put D. In fact, I think you could make a great commercial for GT6, lol. If I never picked up the game in my life and was wondering what it was like, your post would make me buy it, no questions asked.

Anything I have to say about GT5 is a compliment. I know there are some small problems, but they don't matter as much as all the things that are right in the game. I love driving a premium car around in practice mode and enjoying the scenery

Well, you can't get much higher praise than that... thanks.

Makes me think I really should work on that novel this year. :sly:

I think I would actually be upset if you took my GT5 and setup away from me. I am a working adult, and a video game has me wrapped around it's finger. I think that says something. It's more than just a game, it's an experience.

For example, two days ago I took a stock Aventador around the ring at dawn. My gf was in the room doing homework. As I make my way around the track I'm simply flogging the car, getting sideways, turn in rotation, etc., in other words pushing really hard. About half way around she stops reading and is watching me. At the end of the lap she says "Now I see why you play this game so much. There's more to it than just driving a fake car". Shes been around all year watching me drive from time to time, and is the complete opposite of a car nut, but something clicked with her right then and there, that GT5 is more than a game.
