Because they're Sony/PD.

Noone, not even Sony/PD will willingly waste money on the stock room needed to store those half a million disks. My bet is, the shipment to France is the only one we heard about so far, doesn't mean there aren't any more. Additionally, I assume more than one shipment will head to France anyway.

Personally, if it went gold when Kaz said it did, we're looking at a release within six weeks. Probably early December, or maybe in line with Black Friday once Thanksgiving hits.

At least, that would make sense.

Well, if they actuall did ship thegame already, there's little reason to doubt a release before christmas.

It's not like I'd be inclined to believe that PD/Sony are exactly reliable when it comes to Gran Turismo and release dates, but it'd be pretty hard to mess it up from here on out.

For **** sakes, people. How many ****ing times does it have to posted; until we get an OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE FROM A SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT PRESS RELEASE, every single other date you are told or read is not the actual date.

I don't think it can be made any clearer than that...

Of course, I'm sure you could just go by what a teenager working in a game store says, making minimum wage...

Calm you nerves I don't really care I will wait just like everybody else and they did give a release date Mid December at on time but hey it's Sony and GT.

No, they did not. Ever. End of story. To this date, there was never an official release date given for December 2010 by Sony. Who knows what it will end up being.

For the last ****ing time, people, the only official release date that has ever been announced, confirmed, and published, has been November 2, 2010. And even that came to pass without fruition.

Some of you are quite stubborn.

Its a weekend still in japan/early morning I believe, chances are Kaz got back from SEMA and is checking the status on the shipments and production in his email and will have a meeting in the afternoon with his bosses where they will decide which day to have it released on and announce it. You will probably see a commercial pop up this week for the official release of the game, I cant imagine they dont make commercials for it considering they did it for GT4. Give the man a chance to go over things with the bosses back in Japan.

This is a perfect example as to how little the vast majority on this forum understand who makes the decision to decide on a release date. Here's a hint; it isn't anyone at Polyphony Digital, and the company that does starts with an S and ends with a Y.

Kaz has absolutely nothing to do with deciding upon and implementing a release date. The only part he and his team contributes is the game itself. After that, it's up to Sony to decide on a release date.

Kaz can have as many meetings as he wants to internally with his staff, but they won't be deciding upon a new release date. That decision will be made by Sony, and more specifically, Sony Computer Entertainment.

It really is mind boggling, no matter how many times this has been said, people just can't seem to understand this simple, simple concept.

Quite often the process of deciding how something will/is happening is:

*Assume some kind of end result
*Quickly throw together a few steps that would reach this result
*Think of a few assumptions that show how these steps aren't impossible (ie they wouldn't do it this other way thus they must do it this way)

*State as fact that this is how it is happening

Majarvis is 100% right here. Kaz stopped having anything to do with the release of GT5 once he delivered the gold master to Sony...albeit 3 days late.

Kaz said it himself, he's now working on GT6 and although he'll be involved in an official capacity with the launch of GT5 i.e. the launch party, its the suits at Sony who are now responsible for releasing the game to the world whenever they see fit.

Thank you for adding to the plethora of useless posts in this thread. This contributed exactly nothing to the discussion. Did you just want to see your own post or something?

I have to ask the question.....

Just how many games have had a two week notice on a release date? I cannot think of any.

What we have so far is guesses, leaked copies (that may or may NOT be legit), and GameStop employees say this or that.

I'm still thinking it's an Xmas type release.

I think you're right. If it were to come out this month we should have known by now. The later they tell us, the later we'll see it, I believe.
I'd gladly take first week of December at this rate. I don't get the impression we're on the verge of them telling us. I think we'll get the date in a week or two. I hope I'm wrong.

Every day I come here expecting to see the release date, but now I think it might still be a little while.

Well, GT5's case is different in that the game was pretty much finished when it missed the Nov 2 date, so there wasn't much work left to get the game out by the holidays.

Except for the fact that people were already prepared for a November 2 release, and had the rug pulled out from under them. You left that part out. It's not like this new release date would be coming out of nowhere.

You're one of the few people I have seen call a post supporting their position and agreeing with them "useless".

Not for nothing, Majarvis, but you speak like you're an industry insider. Are you, by any chance? Because if you're not, it doesn't make you look so good to speak down on people. If that's your intention, continue; but if you'd rather appear more civil to people, it's probably in your best interest to tone down your attitude.

Now take this advise how you will. It's just an outsider's perspective.

/whatever

Seems so much has gone on today and I'm really curious to see how this week plays out. In my heart of hearts, I'm hopeful for something forthcoming from Sony/PD.

Did you just make that whole scenario up in your head?

Kind of OT but, when people come up with logic trees like that one it reminds me of a guy I once knew who was... a little odd...

He was playing one of those internt games that was reminicent of 70's TV gameshows and one person would be given a secret word and he had to give a one word hint... then everyone else in the room had to guess the word.

The hint once was: Mail.

My friend guessed Krypton.

I asked how he came up with that. His answer:

Mail sounds like Male, Superman was a male and had the word man in his name which is the same as male. Superman's was from Krypton. Thus the hint "Mail" obviously lead to the secret word being Krypton.

Ever since then it's been kind of hard to really shock me with bad logic.

He only has twelve posts on GTplanet. I don't think it takes a very long stretch of imagination to think maybe he missed those posts. However arrogant, you are right, although I'm sure Kaz has much more information in regards to the release date than we do, he has about as much say in the matter that we do at this point.

What happened to a release date by the end of October? My calendar says November 8.

They gave themselves an 18 day cushion when they said "by the end of October."
It's not like they just missed it. They're 8 days late already. We should be playing the game by now, not waiting to know when they'll even release it.

I'm just really tired of being in limbo.

Sony gives Kaz too much freedom.

I can't wait to talk about all the things I like about GT5 but that time won't come until they give me the bloody game.

I'm going to go to bed now and, when I get up tomorrow, I'm going to come back here and look for a release date.

Thinking about getting a wheel... Given it's only 70 bucks + pp AND the aussie dollar is currently worth more than a US dollar...

But, the DFGT doesn't have a clutch. Is that a major concern? i.e. will I regret getting it in a while, does it make much difference?

And 2ndly, the paddle shifters.. are buttons. Anyone find this to be a problem or does it feel fine?

I recently picked up a G25 upgrading from the DFGT. If you are any good at using a clutch with a proper shifter it will make a HUGE difference. It adds a whole new, major aspect to the game. If you can't get the feel for using a clutch and 6 speed gearbox then it isn't worth it. Having real paddles is nice but I drove for a few years with buttons instead of paddles and once you get used to it you really don't mind it much. It still feels natural enough. At first it threw me but within a few laps of the first race I completely forgot about it.

It's almost hilarious the way some folks get so sanctimonious about "offical release dates".

Whilst I can understand it for the "Offical Release Date Thread", for anywhere else, why get so bothered??

Even Jordan has given (front page) consideration to a possible release during the week of 30 November.

And, yes "on or about 30 November" is not an offical SCE release date announcement, but it is on a Sony website, still hasn't been pulled by Sony corporate, and ties up with all the other information about production / shipping of retail units and proposed "launch party" events.

Regarding the button shift on the DFGT - I find that it produces a really, really good facsimile of real life shifting...

... but that is as a former owner of a Golf GTi DSG.

I even sub-consciously switch to using the sequential stick shift through sequences of tight bends / or when there is a lot of steering lock on - as I used to when driving the Golf (less chance of fouling a up / down shift...)

It's a case of no one unit will satisfactorily cover the range of cars simulated. So many high end sports cars / race cars now have sequential or dual clutch manual boxes that a straight three pedal and stick arrangement would be as much a compromise as the DFGT
