If this game ends up releasing NEXT year, I probably won't get it on release date anymore; instead I will just wait till the price drops like all other games.

I think whats amazing about this development cycle for this game is the fact that the PS3 is only in some 30 million homes or whatever.

GT3/4 didnt take nearly as much time to create, obviously cost much less to build, and they were released on a console in FAR MORE homes than the PS3 is. The PS3 is in last place, the PS2 was in first, by a huge margin. This game literally has no chance at selling like GT3/4 did, naturally since there isnt nearly as many PS3 owners to buy it.

There is no way a third of all PS3 owners will buy this game, so it cannot reach 10 million. In fact the top selling PS3 game, which I believe is MGS4, only sold like 5 million copies, that's half as much as something like Halo 3, which took 3 less years to create.

Thats why im so amazed at how Sony is even allowing it to take this long and cost as much money as it has. I think its just logical to assume this will be the lowest selling GT game due to the PS3s current position in the market. I really dont get what they're trying to do here.

Don't be surprised if GT5 reaches something like 7 million. It wouldn't be much of a profit(if any) but GT6 is supposed to be just a better version of GT5 that won't take as long to make or cost as much which will probably sell as much as GT5.

I don't agree with any of this.

GT4 Prologue sold 1.4million copies and GT4 sold 11 million copies. Now if you take into account GT5P sold 4.9million copies combined with the fact that many will purchase a PS3 for GT5, I reckon the sales of GT5 will eventually exceed 10million. I know of 10 people planning on buying a PS3 for GT5 and this is based on those on my Xbox live friends list!

There is a reason why Gran Turismo is such a successful franchise. Normally games such as Halo, MW are bought by FPS fans. Now GT doesn't just appeal to those who are racing fans because general gamers also buy this game which is why it sells so well. Also GT has a massive following in Europe. In the US FPS are more popular but in Europe we love cars and love motorsports. Did you know out of the 11 million copies of GT4, 6.5 million of these sales were from Europe!!

*sigh* I guess I reschedule my iPhone... Curse both of you, Sony and PD(Kaz)!!! :grumpy:

Any people from Japan around here who can tell us if the 'we love cars' ad is (still) seen alot on TV or the web? If Soony was already advertising in Japan the beginning of december could be hopeful.

Reasons for Q1 2011 delay

-Making the remaining 800 cars "PREMIUM"
-Porsche license
-4 more scenarios for track generator
-Hood view
-Uber-realistic engine sounds
-high res skid marks
-rust build up on untreated exposed metal

Well, at least all of our gripes have been addressed!

New version of "Delay 2: The Lost Cause"

Remember when it was all the rage that the homebrew community finally found a way around Sony’s airtight XMB security to modify PS3s and add functionality? Well folks, that honeymoon is finally over because word has come out that due to the nature of the breach your favorite game and mine Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed. When the news hit a couple days ago, no one really knew why it was delayed and speculation stated that they still haven’t finished the game. Lo and behold, the main reasoning is that the game needed to be updated to current SDK, to avoid any issues with firmware hacks.

According to Maximus over at the Blu Ray forums:

Like I said it is manufacturing issues. I had it confirmed today.

The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350. This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a 3 week slot big enough to make 7m+ copies of this and get them shipped out.

If you want to blame anyone, I would direct it at the pirates and hackers, SCE never had any real SDK restrictions before firmware 3.41 was compromised.

Let this be a lesson to you all, while homebrew can be a great thing, when it messes with game releases – it’s not cool.

I hope the release date isn't between 18th Dec - 23rd Dec. I say this because I would have to cancel my pre-order and purchase from the shop itself. This then means I would miss out on the Collectors Edition.

The reason is because obviously the demand on our postal service is extremely high during this period. If GT5 was posted after the 18th you wouldn't be guaranteed your copy before Xmas. Im not sure what the postal service is like in other countries but thats what happens in the UK.

 I love how every problem in the gaming industry is blamed on pirates and hackers.

You know the real reason the game was delayed was Ben Collins. I mean think about it, GT has Top Gear in it and with the recent uncovering of the Stig it probably messed up some license agreement. PD had to change it around and thus missed the production date. Seriously we should stop blaming PD and Sony and start blaming Ben Collins.

Apparently Ben Collins and Kaz are good friends and Kaz is furious about Ben being dropped from Top Gear.

I reckon he is ditching all the Top Gear content and replacing it with the BTCC in which Ben now races.

i understand the perfection intent here but they are toying with our emotions here. i don't think they understand the effect this game has on gt fans. i guess electronic arts will get my money come Nov instead. i will settle for NFS Hot Pursuit unit gt5 releases. DLC better be off the chains. What ever courses are not in the release need to come on DLC. Same with the cars and everything else. 3 days don't equal weeks worth of delays. last time i checked 3 days=3 days.

Reasons for Q1 2011 delay

-Making the remaining 800 cars "PREMIUM" (impossible in the time frame)
-Porsche license (no chance do be serious)
-4 more scenarios for track generator ( There icons have been shown already)
-Hood view (it's in)
-Uber-realistic engine sounds (there said we will have new engine sounds in the full game)
-high res skid marks (light etc reflects off them what more do you want)
-rust build up on untreated exposed metal (what sort of cars are even made of metal that rusts, I have huge exposed metal scratch on my 96 golf and I live near the see and it doesn't rust)

Well, at least all of our gripes have been addressed!
There you go I corrected it for you;)

and to quote myself here is an explanation.

Sony have a very busy production line , I will give you an example of how it could have gone

PD probebly had the line for 5 days to make all the disks need so now they only have 2 days as they were 3 days late this means that they are short 2 days but as sony's factory is busy and the nearist gap for PD to use it is in two or so weeks time, so PD won't have enough stock untill they get the rest of the disks in the new slot.

Hopefully you understand?

According to Imasaki, the decision to delay the title even further was a last-minute decision made by the executive team, which includes the creator of Gran Turismo, Kazonuri Yamauchi, for the game. The developer of the title, Polyphony Digital, believed that they had a good date chosen for the release, but it looks like the higher-ups at the company decided against it. What’s worse, though, was that the decision was literally made yesterday, seemingly out of the blue. Imasaki added that, “We’re not happy over here.”

And, as we reported yesterday, the Sony and Polyphony Digital are now aiming for a holiday season release of the title, hopefully putting it on retail shelves before the first of the new year. However, it looks like even that is still up in the air. Imasaki points out that Sony is now “shooting for it to be out by the holidays. You won’t see too much more delay.” That last bit, regarding the fact that fans may not see “too much more delay,” is the most disheartening, as it sounds like the developer has no idea when the game will release.

Read the GTP news page, and see what Jordan posted.

Im sick and tired of this. pathetic, lazy, disorganised people who cant control a business. Idiots. Awards should be taken away for this game.

This delay apparently has very little to do with Polyphony. People should remember back to when the game was going to be released in Japan in March while the rest of the world didn't have a date. Kaz said that their job was to simply make the game and Sony handles everything else (like when it would be released in the rest of the world). If the game really is done (as recent reports are indicating) then there's nothing that PD can do. It's up to Sony to market the game, to get the discs printed and to ship it.

Well they did miss the deadline by 3 days, so the root of the problem does stem from PD. but i agree, the consequence for PD's failure is too great for what PD actually did not do.3 days=several weeks, Sony is a failure:yuck:
