I have said this before and I'll say it again. Gran Turismo, the series in general, is not a short term game. If you want to play a game for a month, two, or three and then jump ship when the newest, hottest game comes out then GT5 is not for you. I can honestly say that I will be playing GT5 until GT6 comes out. That's the way it's been with GT5P, GT4, GT3, GT2 and GT1 for me. I love the game with all its faults, because there's nothing on the Playstation (or Xbox or Wii) that comes close to it when you are talking about car racing. I have tried other racing titles on my PS2, but I disappointed and for PS3 I haven't bought another game.
I have played FM3 extensively for three weeks straight on a business trip and was sorrily disappointed. I almost bought a used Xbox for FM3 when GT5 was being delayed, and I am glad I didn't waste my money.
My point is, the people who want to complete a game quick and finish it to 100% will not like GT5. It takes a lot of commitment and time to finish this game. Yes, the playability factor was greater on GT4, they had to make it that way since there was no psn network connection. GT5 was made from the start to be an upgradeable platform, where through updates (and hopefully DLCs in the future) the game gets new races, new challenges. We have seen some of that through the Seasonal Events, etc.
I see a lot of people complaining about not being able to collect 1000 cars in a short time , or not being able to make 20,000,000 credits for a rare collectable car. You know what? I usually work full time and take two college classes. I play GT5 on my spare time and have amassed over 130 cars, $3.5 million in the bank and I have bought one of the 20 million dollar cars. If I can do it so can you.
The only thing that worries me right now for the future of the GT series is the current situation in Japan. As much as I want more updates, more races, and DLC, I hope first of all that PD employees in Japan and their families are safe. I will patiently wait and hope for the best, both for their employees families and for the GT series. I'll keep waiting for GT6, while playing GT5 day in, day out.
a quote from another thread,
"The 1,031 cars in the game cost a grand total of about 491,000,000 credits. 811 (=79%) of the cars are standard models, which means they are only available as "used" cars through the UCD. To enjoy their full potential you'll need to do engine and body rebuilds for all used cars, which will cost you approximately 389,000,000 credits. Purchasing all tuning parts for all cars would come to total expenses of 393,000,000 credits. So getting all cars with all tuning parts comes to a grand total of about 1,273,000,000 credits.
With a payout of 70,000 credits the A-Spec Indy race in Like the Wind is indeed the "fastest" way to make money in GT5. With a Red Bull X2010 and rubberband-grinding the race can be done in about 4 minutes, which comes to about 1,000,000 credits per hour. Roughly every 20 hours you will have to stop grinding and spend 20,000,000 credits, as that is the maximum you are allowed to have at any given time in GT5. At this point you will also have to rotate the UCD for a couple of hours to actually find cars to buy that you don't already own.
Consequently, even if you quit your job, leave your family, and spend all your time with GT5, it would take at least 64 days of non-stop 24-hours-per-day rubberband-grinding (earning credits) and UCD-rotation-grinding (finding cars) to get all the cars.
Of course, this only works if you have an X2010. Which you won't have, thanks to the gifting limit. Getting it requires another 20 days of 24/7 grinding, btw. Oh, what joy GT5 brings... "
Now having said that, if you like doing this, then this game is for you. GREAT! I'm happy for you. But, guess what Sanmusa, not everyone likes what you and other fan boys/girls like to do.
Other people have different opinions on how a game should be.
I have been a GT fan since GT1 and GT2.
I skipped over GT3 and GT4 and anxiously waited for GT5, and much to my displeasure, discovered that PD has created "Grind Turismo" and forced limitations on trading which they offered from the release of the game, forced us to spend money on cars that we don't really want in order to keep us grinding in hopes that the car that we want will show up in the UCD or OLD some day.
I don't even want to collect all the cars, but even the ones that I do want to collect, will take me a considerable amount of time to get. (UCD and OLD allowing) Which, would probably be the same time GT6 comes out. And, if history repeats itself, I'd have to wait another 6 years!

Now, for you to tell other people, play the game the same way you did because you did it, is pointless and to be NICE, silly. You and other fan boys can't tell me how I should play this game.
Not everyone uses rubber bands to "play" and not everyone is a narrow minded automaton fan boy who's afraid to play other games that look like what GT SHOULD have been. A racing simulator.

So, to answer the thread, honestly, I can not see myself playing this bad rendition of a, driving simulator, (what GT used to be) for much longer.
