GT5 Japanese Console Broken - What to do now?

So my console broke, it wont stay turned on. I had a ps3 repair guy check the system, replace the power supply, only to leave the problem still existing. He believes its the motherboard.

Here is my problem.

All of my GT5 data is on that system, all 60 golds, all my cars, progress etc. I also have Japanese and European PSN accounts on that hard drive, those accounts were used to download all the stealth cars from the special editions that I bought. I do not have the info to recover those accounts, so all this stuff is just stuck with that old system and hard drive.

What would you guys do if you had the Gran Turismo 5 Japanese Edition console, and all the best DLC available and were in my position? Also, Battlefield 3 is stuck in the console. :(

 
that sucks, it looks like a power supply fault or a faulty IC, but im no electrician.

Internet searches might answer your repair question if someones been through a similar situation.

if you remember your account logins and passwords you can redownload your dlcs.

If you could just get your ps3 to run for a couple of hours you could make a photocopy using the data transfer utiility. but doesnt look like your ps3 runs at all..

again, that sucks, hope you get a magic fix somewhere

My ps3 just died as well I feel your pain just waiting for my replacement then ill see if my data works.

I hope you can get your data back.
 
I believe there's a safe mode for PS3's like this.

I believe when your turning it on you hold the button down for 6 seconds and it enters safe mode where there are options for resetting console etc.. You should check it to see if there's a mode to copy data to something.
 
Remove the hard drive from the ps3. Get a new ps3 and put in the old hard drive. You don't have to lose anything.

If I'm not mistaken I thought gt5 data was ps3 specific. Like yes just re use the hdd but when trying to load onto a new ps3 it will say save data did not originate from this ps3. That's how it was on psp gt.

That will never work. The ps3 inputs a specific code only to that ps3. If the ps3 detects a HDD with a different code or no code, It will reformat the drive wiping everything out. There is no way to transfer data from one HHD to another HDD. Sony has that locked down tighter than the CIA does.
 
To be honest...why would you ever play on a console that is some special edition.

Just buy a regular ps3 and keep that on your shelf or something.
its your fault.

I play my gears of war 3 limited edition xbox it was built to play.

We have 3 PS3's in our household. My acct is on each.

I remember the password and login to my U.S. account. I do not remember the password or email to the euro account though. I have no clue where to even start, it was 2010 when they were created. The European account is the one I used to download all the stealth cars. :( It is my fault for not writing all of the info down, however all the accounts are still active on the harddrive on this broken PS3 if I can just get it to work.
 
If you put your old HDD into a new PS3 it will try reformat it and erase everything on the HDD. Hopefully you can keep it on long enough to backup your save to a USB.
 
I had a red light issue, after 15 minutes beep beep beep, powered off. Repair place had it for a month, reflowed it, swapped out a few chips, new PSU, nothing helped. I was lucky that I had 15 minutes to copy my saves, but using that HDD in my new slim just formatted it. Losing a PS3 and all the data is a pain, but at the end of the day it is just a first world problem
 
bump.

Just took it to a PS3 repair place, they weren't sure if they were going to be able to fix it, and would charge me $50 just to take a look, even if they dont fix it, and $30 on top of that to remove the game inside. This is turning into a huge pain.

I also have been emailing Japan support to see if I can send it in for repairs but everything is so generic that I cant be guaranteed to get back my game or any of the data.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Can I replace my motherboard or will that throw all kinds of red flags saying I cant use my hard drive data with this motherboard etc etc?

I already have another ps3, the problem is recovering all the info off of this one. All of my DLC movies from the playstation store, also my PSN accounts that I made for different regions to download the stealth cars were on the harddrive and I dont recall the logins for those foreign PSN accounts.
 
I had a similar problem. I found that by persisting I could get the broken one to stay on for a while ( I just kept at it), long enough to do a full transfer to a new ps3. I unfortunately didn't have a 2nd ps3 to transfer to but as you do you may be in luck. Hope you get it sorted.
 
You can remove that HDD and plug it to your PC with a Sata cable (and power of course,just look at how your HDD is connected in your PC if you don´t have any idea how to do that, lol) and copy all folders in another folder called "Play Station" (just for you to remember). In the HDD (from your PS3) you can find the SAVEDATA folder (you have all your game saves there, GT5, BF3, etc).

When you have your new PS3, just copy the SAVEDATA folder in a USB key or pendrive (the same thing) and copy it in your PS again and you wont loose anything.
For recovering all your DLC you need to download all again. Just go to PSN Store and in the up right corner you´ll find a little button that says "downloads". Click on it and you´ll see all your downloaded content and you can re-download all again. (even if it is free or if you paid for it, the content is yours)

Tips: Use your main account for download your paid content again.
And please, when you connect the HDD just TURN OFF your PC. lol
(sorry just in case)

I'm not sure if a PC recognizes a PS3 formatted HDD. It may ask for a format beforehand. Just saying.

The problem is, all video content is registered to the specific PS3 it was downloaded to. I had to deal with a similar issue when I upgraded PS3's and tried to load all my backup video data onto my new PS3. The PSN support staff told me video's are one time downloads, and that even though I spent $20 on an HD version of a movie, it was only licensed to that console. I had to go through a lot just to convince them to let me download my videos again.

Then, I do not remember my login info for my europe PSN account, which had all my GT5 downloads for stealth cars etc on it. If I load that account on a new ps3 it will ask me for the email which I dont have. :(

The only option I am finding is to somehow get this PS3 working again, because lovely Sony decided to "marry" everything inside of a PS3, so I cant replace this hard drive into another PS3, or use any of my DLC videos on another console since they are all married to this console that isnt working.

My advice to anyone, is never download movies from the PSN store, they will be licensed to the console you are downloading them onto only, and if you get into my situation its a PITA to recover or use any of it.
 
Why does your PS3 go from OFF to standby (red light) after one press, and then to ON after another? Is it supposed to be like that? Cause mine isn't...

And despite having changed the PSU, I still think that's where the problem is...

- Have you tried keeping the power button pressed during startup? Does it make a difference?

- Have you tried letting the PS3 "rest" for a few hours without the power cord connected, and trying again after? The more time without any power the better.

- Have you tried to start the PS3 without the HDD inserted, to see if it still does the same?

There's another test you could do, but it's a little more extreme as it envolves disassembling the PS3 a bit. If none of these work, and if you're desperate, I'll share it.

It does that when you get YLOD.

If you remove the hard drive you will still lose everything due to the each hard is unique with the ps3. I had yellow light of death on my first ps3, i removed hard drive and put it into another console and it formatted everything so there was nothing on it. Always use a usb to back everything up so you dont lose valuble game saves.
Also hold the eject disc button and the disc should come out. i did that when my slim got ylod.
 
Open it up and remove the disc, thats easy.

I fixed a few red blinking lights, and never had a ps3 that i couldnt get running again.

Get it down to the mother board, heat chips with a heatgun, install new thermal paste, voila!
