I think the game itself is probably finished. The reason for the delay is probably to include strong anti-piracy checks into the game to make sure the game knows it isn't being played from the hard disk of a "hacked" PS3. (A very recent & current threat e.g PSFreedom etc)

Think how much money Sony/PD would lose if this game could be played from the hard drive of a hacked PS3 (rent/borrow the game, rip to hard drive, no need to buy it)

Now I know it is not (yet) possible to play games that require a newer PS3 firmware version than 3.41 but at the rate at which hackers are developing "homebrew" apps for the PS3, it won't be long.

If the game is released before christmas i can deal with that.

It's just stupid because Nov 2 was the first "official" release date. It was a release date that didn't impress anyone it was just a releif to finally know it would be released before they died.

And since then people have been planning there lives around the game, booking in holidays setting up their steering wheels buying gaming products.

They better be working on the engine sounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would definitely be a bummer for Kaz/PD/Sony, after so much effort and secrecy... that nobody buy the game...

One copy sold, one copy circulating around, and the entire world playing the game...

All these years of hard work, earning Kaz/PD/Sony only $65 + tax...

$10-per-year earning anyone ??

LOL :P

Seen from that light, if this is the truth, then i am willing to give him a few more weeks/months to resolves this issue, and CYA ;)

Hey guys new here.
I think this delay is questionable.

I mean lets think about this. This anouncment comes out a few weeks after Forza anounces there rerelease of Forza 3 FUC. I mean come on people think about it...Whats the most important thing for a game thats 5+ years in development? anyone...? Its the release of said game. I think the big boss man at PD dont want GT5 to be tainted buy a rerelsease of its mane competition. You know PD and sony arnt going to say thats why there delaying the game. I dont know if this is why they are delaying it but its my thoughts what you guys think?

The video you linked to is laden with expletives that would not be acceptable within posts here at GTPlanet, so you should have at the very least posted a warning to that effect. That said, I simply don't see the point in posting such an unadulterated whine as that anyway, but especially when it also contains copious bad language. Please think more carefully about posting stuff like this again.

This is also probably a good time to remind everyone that while we are all a bit frustrated by today's news, that doesn't mean that it is open season on KY, PD, Sony or anyone else for that matter, and that there is no reason or excuse for people to rant and post inappropriate comments on these forums. We've already been forced to hand out several infractions today as a result of inappropriate posts, which have included some frankly disgusting and completely unacceptable comments that have already resulted in one member being permanently banned from the site. I would urge anyone who might be upset about the delay in the release of GT5 to show some restraint and to continue to remember the rules of the forum before clicking the "Submit Reply" button.

They probably came here and seen all the Flopza fanboi's talking about shadows and 3d spectators and trees and said, 'We should fix this, they are important' that's why we have a delay. Or it could be because of certain issues with producing enough games to meet the need. Supply is probably much less than demand. Anyone ever think of that? That was an issue with PS3's when they first shipped. Perhaps the demand for GT5 is much higher than expected. Or it could be they just don't have everything panned out in perfection like Kaz wants it to. But I don't think it's any of that. I think it's Sony just trying to put GT5 out on a date that's closer to x-mas so it's still 'new' and the sales jump like crazy on black Friday and the week leading up to x-mas!

I am sure the last person on Earth who wanted the game delayed is Kaz himself(especially after saying that this is the final release date)so whatever it is I am sure they have a vlid reason for it.Of course when I wake up tommorow and the whole GT5 is no longer so close thing sinks in I will probably regret what I said now.:D

And only last week, at a PlayStation press event in New York during the Comicon convention, visitors were digging into “GT5″ game demos, and representatives from Sony Computer Entertainment of America seemed genuinely excited about the game’s then-imminent launch in the United States on Nov. 2 (it was to go on sale in Japan Nov. 3, in Europe Nov. 4).

“We’re really close, but this was an executive decision that was made yesterday,” said Taku Imasaki, the North American producer for “Gran Turismo 5,” in a phone interview. “Realistically, we thought we had a good date. We’re not happy over here.”

Mr. Imasaki said the company “is shooting for it to be out by the holidays. You won’t see too much more delay.”

There was also speculation that Sony might not have sufficient supplies of the game to meet demand in November.

It doesn't? Are you a psychic?

do you seriously believe that? i dont even think its possible, first they will tell us the release date, maybe at the end of october, then its november. how often do companies give release dates like 1 month before release? i think they will say maj or june 2011. of course i hope that it will come as fast as possible, but when it comes to pd, i dont give a damn about them promising a release before xmass.

That was exactly my thoughts since this morning...
I wonder if someone at Polyphony Digital finally signed up with a GTP membership, and after participating in the forum, reported back to the big boss Kaz, letting him know who much more we still demand...

And being the perfectionist as he is always, have decided to withdraw the game to put more stuff to satisfy the members of GTPlanet, and to counter Forza's latest update/DLC release.

What i dont understand is: how is a later release closer to Holiday Season can generate anymore revenue.... which would mean Sony has the capability of delivering 5 Millions copy worldwide within 3 weeks??

I think the release of Nov 2 is perfect, as it would widen the revenue from Nov to Jan with less pressure.

Looks like we will have to push and shove to get those copies during Christmas, for those who has not pre-order, such as myself...

How i felt this morning when i woke up to this crap news

Seems it was almost ready to go. And SCEA isn't too happy about it. Hopefully this means GT5 before December.

scea = KEVIN BUTLER

While shooting the commercial, KB has so much fun and such a blast playing that game that he has decided to hold it for himself, and playing GT5 before anyone, & having the exclusivity to practice ahead of time...

i think he wants the platina trophie before anyone else :sly:

What did I say? Demand outweighed supply! Just what I thought would happen! I figured they would have a good supply of GT5, but I also figured that demand would outweigh it significantly enough that they would have to delay it to make more copies. There's no other logical reason, especially if the game is 'ready'. If it weren't they wouldn't be sending it out to be reviewed! The only logical explanation would be they didn't have enough copies ready for launch! That was my hunch even before the November 2nd date was pushed up. I never pre-order games that are out before x-mas. They don't usually stay with the date, not big titles at least. I always figure that if the game is that big, they should release it around black-Friday when EVERYONE goes shopping! Bundle it with a PS3 and you got systems and games moving! I'm betting this will happen, if not then the week before x-mas it'll hit stores!

Definitely, no. But maybe it's because of some licensing terms between Top Gear and Forza, I suppose.
If GT5 was released side-by-side with FM3:UC, it would beat the living crap out of Forza reissue, that's for sure.

And the story continues ...

You might think you’ve heard everything about the Gran Turismo 5 delay tonight, but you’d be wrong. According to the New York Times, who are citing a telephone interview with Taku Imasaki, the game’s North American producer, the decision to delay the game was made just yesterday.

"We’re really close, but this was an executive decision that was made yesterday,” Imasaki said. “Realistically,” he continued, “we thought we had a good date. We’re not happy over here.”

Chances the delay has something to do with the usb dongle hack\whatever?

Maybe Sony is looking for a way to lock it completely. (Lock the game to not work or work improperly if it's run from the HDD)

Guys seriously, waiting for GT5 is my main activity for about two years! I was worred what will I do next when the game is out, and now I can sleep well (for now).

I don't believe in any release date until the game is in my possession. But you say that as if it is already a fact, which you cannot know.

By the way, is your Shift key broken? I know English isn't your first language, which is why I only highlighted the many capitalization issues, but I am pretty sure that capitalization at the beginning of sentences and on proper nouns is fairly common. Not to mention that at least trying to do your best proper English is a rule here.

Might be the the vehicle sound really 'S**KS'.

A delay because of that? Unlikely, since KY would not say around TGS that they "improved" the sounds if they didn't really improve anything.

About the McLaren sounds, you got to remember that the car is tuned and the build might be an earlier one.

About the delay: Let's hope this isn't some sick Halloween joke. But from what it sounds like, Sony's trying to get the game out ASAP, so I don't think the date will change much.

This is what happens when you change things over and over again
The only difference between gnr and GT is I've still got a glimmer of hope for GT .GNR really suck without Slash,Duff and Matt

Offtopic: I like New GNR a bit better and rank Chinese Democracy right up there with Appetite. Best Band Ever!

I hope this delay is only about 2-3 weeks. At least it's coming this year.

On the bright side of things... does this reignite the possibility of worldwide simmultaneous release?

I see you are donning full riot gear in anticipation of the onslaught, TM.

This type of announcement always works wonders with attitudes of the membership here.

Proof positive you mods don't have it so easy all the time. :)

Mr. Imasaki said the company “is shooting for it to be out by the holidays. You won’t see too much more delay.”

Hmmm. Not exactly reassuring, given so far, PD couldn't hit a bull in the ass with a spade.

And lets not forget the key observation: Its Fictional.
