I popped in at Mercedes Luxembourg Central during the "Auto Festival" this week in Luxembourg and was able to shoot this:

1 recommendation, do not drive and make a video of it at the same time, it will lead to disaster. :grumpy:
 
GT5 release grief, what stage are you at?

# Denial —> Portuguese Sony executive dude knows nothing, this has not been confirmed officialy, haha, in March it shall be mine!
# Anger —> I will sell my ps3 and buy xbox + forza. When meeting PD staff I will fart in their general direction!
# Bargaining —> the game is almost complete, should it then collect dust for 9 months before being released, they better release it now pretty please!
# Depression —> Sony is so greedy and they shouldnt have made gt psp. Naughty big corporations dont care about my feelings and now I am here all alone with nothing to play :(
# Acceptance -> It will come out when it comes out, theyll tune it to perfection in the meantime, then ill buy it.

Im at denial, very jealous of the acceptance people!!

One of the main reasons I bought my launch PS3 was because of the Gran Turismo franchise. However, it wasn't only for that, but I know some people on here pretty much bought their PS3 for GT5. That must make the wait even more frustrating, but in such a case you have to ask yourself, why did you buy a PS3 in the first place when the only game you wanted was not out? OK, you had no idea of how long it would be, but still...

I did something similar with GT2 and GT4, buying a PS1 and a PS2 for them respectively, but at least I did it when the game was released. Now people are moaning on how the game isn't released yet. It's not their fault that people bought a console for a game that wasn't even released yet.

I do feel bad for them, but hey, some of you guys were asking for it.

Now, after reading the latest news... I can only wait for an OFFICIAL Sony and PD statement to clarify all this release epopee.

Finally, I can only say all this **** just puts Sony and 1st party credibility to a very low level. It's very sad...

I think you can easily blame Sony, they marketed GT:HD and the like from the very start, GT:HD was the first thing you downloaded and marvelled at the graphics..

Then in what is fast becoming 'the norm', Sony do an about turn, announce GT:HD is no longer on the cards, and it's been started on from the ground up..

I think saying people where asking for it when Sony where marketing a game as being in development, use a demo as a showcase for the PS3's ability and indication of upcoming titles, is a little harsh to say the least.

Worryingly they use this same tactic over and over and over.. It's actually pretty low in anyones book..
 
While i respect Kojima, he also talks a lot of crap sometimes.
Over reacting much.
 
I believe that it is pointless to give us a release date, since there can always be a delay. A release date doesn't mean the game will be released that day no matter what, that's what he is basically saying.

Amazing that you can interpret it like that..

He is actually saying that a release date is sacred, and that to delay is betraying customers and business partners expectations..

Then asks for forgiveness for committing what he feels is a 'crime'...


when he says 'it's nothing less then a promise', it should have been translated as "It is a binding promise" or such like.. if you read the end of that sentence, the context confirms this.

I think your Kaz tinted glasses must be filtering out things ;) (Joking btw)..

One way or another, I'm right. It's pointless to have a release date, because it can always be changed. It's better not to give any release date at all, because then people can't complain about the game being delayed. Sure, it pisses people off, but it's their fault for taking a game's release so seriously.

GT5 is 90% done!
 
i'm rather surprised that there is still that much talk going on about a release date...

Back in time, the exact same discussion was made about GT2...

And then, a few years later, the same discussion was going on about GT3...

AFter that, there was, as i recall, i huge discussion about GT4's release date...

and somehow, there's still the same exact bloody discussion about GT5's release date!

Amazing.

No you are wrong, it's not better to give no release date, that's incompatible with business.. It's better to give a release date and stick to it..

"To fail to plan is to plan to fail" - I believe this is universally accepted as the way things should be done.

The 'Kaz' tinted glasses was tongue in cheek that is all, and is reference to the fact that only KY/Sony use such 'excuses' as release dates so badly to cover a clear lack of good business strategy and practices..

But what if they don't know if they can stick to it? That's where the problem lies. Sure, you can give a release date, then X happens, and you have to delay the game, only to have hordes of gamers shouting and cursing your name on an internet forum.

How does that make sense to anyone? If the game is released now, it will sell more copies by the time christmas comes around as opposed to releasing for christmas. It won't sell less, its GRAN TURISMO for god's sake! Are they thinking people will buy a PS3 at christmas and GT5 at the same time? How will a different release change that?

Let me guess. You guys don't own stocks, don't watch markets, and don't understand how quarterly earnings reports affect these things. I am not going to predict what Sony is thinking, mainly because their marketing makes little sense half the time, but I can tell you that if all their blockbusters are released in the first and second quarter then those two quarters will show a huge profit growth, thus a stock increase. But the third quarter wouldn't have anything big and so would actually show a decrease in profits. Thus people would sell stocks and the business media would discuss their sudden drop. But if they, or any company, can spread sales out over all quarters then they appear to be maintaining steady growth without any drops, which makes them look like a sound investment.

Similarly the Christmas quarter is extremely important for retailers and so a Christmas season release will gain more marketing aid from the retail stores.

They are not at home as much. That is vacation season and so everyone is either outside or out of town more often. Similarly TV shows don't try doing new seasons during the summer. But movies do big summer things because it is something to go do with your family or friends while out of the house. Basically summer is a bad time for targeting in-home activities.

My PS3 is useless for me without Gran Turismo.
I tried NFS shift, and god, It doesn't come even close to gran turismo..
After two weeks, I was tired of it.
I just love cars, and i love gran turismo, and it's the only thing i want..
and the only thing i want to make time for.

And Sony is least concerned about you when people like me will buy stacks of games. They want my attention so that I will buy another game. If you buy a PS3 and GT5 and nothing else your profit potential to them is finished the moment you pay.

But then the question is: Why did you buy a PS3 for GT5 when there is no GT5 yet? It's like buying a paper cup while knowing there is no coffee.
 
Look in this way, if the game its gona be soooo good, thats not profitable, because you play that game for years and no buy another game, its a contradiction, am i wrong?

Bottom line, if you can't see the problem with not planning and having release dates, then there is no point discussing things further..

I'm sure Sony would rather have concrete release dates, it's not just about customers, it's about all the other business units that get involved as well..

To say that it's all deliberate and that Sony are doing the right thing shows some incredible naivety in the world of business (In my opinion)..

I don't think that there is much to discuss if we are coming at this from totally different perspectives..


Although I would love to understand why you think not giving release dates is good for Sony? other then them reacting to a very late and overdue, never ending GT5 development saga?
 
Nextgen consoles especially ps3 and 360 killed all best series. FF RE SH DMC MGS in my opinion died in this generation! now it s time to die for GT series?
i will say Gran Fiasco 5 after waiting 6 years..I dont believe release dates and i dont believe anybody who working for Sony.
