Well I'm still expecting a late October early November date to be honest. So I ain't getting my hopes up. But if it finally is confirmed for late September then i'll be pleasently suprised. :)

When it comes, it comes. I will be there at 12:00 in the morning, with my wallet and hoping I will get a copy. As will others I assume?

I ain't waiting in line with money in hand, that'd be stupid. If I did that I probably never get a copy they'd be all gone. Pre-order all the way.

I am reserving it as soon as an official date is announced. And yes, I will be there at midnight for the release. Then I am taking a few days off. :dopey:

Yep, as soon as I hear the release date I will...

1. Go to my local gamestop and make sure they are doing a midnight release for it. If they are, then I will pay for it on the spot.
2. Go to work and put in for vacation.
3. Wait for it to get delayed and get ready to :nervous::crazy:

I don't believe it, though it could be true. I don't expect a summer release, more likely to be a december release.

Analysis mode:

UK online retailers CDWOW and Play have both stepped out and listed a release date for the long overdue racing simulation game Gran Turismo 5. On the product page you’ll find that the game is currently available for Pre-order and you’ll also see Gran Turismo 5 is due for release on 24/09/2010.

Okay. And? We've had two or more retailers post release dates on many occasions, with upwards of twenty all hitting a date during last December.

We always knew this was the year for GT5.

Did we? Last December was pretty much as confirmed as it gets without official, publicised word and that flew right by. Also, that isn't this year.

Polyphony confirmed the game will make its debut this Fall

That'll be "Sony" and they stated (not confirmed) 3rd quarter - which is 1st July to 30th September, a whole nine days into "Fall" and 82 days of summer.

but, like usual, we were kept in the dark about the exact release date. But now with two retailers spilling the beans this could be the real deal. Well, it wouldn’t be the first time retailers outed an official release date.

Yes, and it wouldn't be the first time retailers had put up a release date to generate more preorders, or an earlier one than rivals to encourage preorders on their site rather than others. As I said before, this isn't exactly new.

But with the long history of delays

What delays?

I'm only aware of one and that didn't affect the worldwide market. Hardly deserving of the term "delay", let alone a plural.

we can’t be certain until Polyphony comes out and confirms the release date.

So why are you?

Although it looks pretty promising to have retailers show the exact same release date, one thing for sure is that Gran Turismo 5 is coming out this year.

"For sure" by what standard? Remember, remember the 11th of December (2009).

Regardless the release date we will definitely get our hands on the racing sim, GT5 is set to be one of the biggest PlayStation 3 exclusives. According to a recent study 33% of people who plan on buying GT5 don’t own a PS3 console, which just goes to show the level of demand.

Nice white noise there.

I'll add that this whole mess of nonsense, gibberish and extraordinarily poor grammar was written by the site's editor. Worthwhile source.

@ Famine: I totally agree. That source is not at all reliable in any way. GT5 might still be released in September, but the article http://playstationfeed.com/gran-turismo-5-release-date-unveiled/ is only an educated guess. Or rather uneducated scince it builds on two retailers. Another big retailer, Amazon.com has a release date of November 1st. Video game central also lists that date, so now we have two for September and two for November. The most educated guess from that will have to be that neither of them actually knows.

whats up with you minibar? did the bar close or something? you're posting like you've got a grudge against someone who believes GT5 will be out this year. It will be. Sony execs even said it before in interviews about the PS3. I remember hearing "GT5 will also be out later THIS YEAR..." with questions about upcoming games from 2 months back with regards to God Of War 3. If a head sony guy said it, I believe it. GT5 is done, they're waiting for the 3D tv's from sony to launch and for the PS3 to have updated 3D software available to download, then you'll see GT5. I expect it to be out by September, October the latest. I would guess summer time because by June Sony is supposed to roll out their 3D tv line up. Summer time kids have off of school= big time buying of video games, probably right up there with x-mas.

NOTE: This is my educated guess so if you disagree that's your opinion, but 3D TV's from Sony are due out in June or July that has been said before. Once they are out then 3D gameplay and movie playback for your PS3/BluRay will be implemented. What better way to show off than bring out GT5 in 3D on Sony's own 3D TV with Sony's own 3D capable PS3?

I can guess as well. I can tell you my guesses, I just choose not to.

This kind of crap is pulled almost weekly by online blogs hoping to get the first scoop. It's not news. It's not even not news - it's non-news. One of them will probably be right and then they can say "Look, back in Octvembarch we told you it'd be now and look, it actually is!". Yeah, doesn't mean that you had any better chance than any other guess - it's like cold-reading only with a many times more finite answer.

When Sony/PD give out a date, GTPlanet will be amongst the first to tell the rest of the world who haven't already heard it what it is. We won't give out any dates, even as guesses, until then (primarily because it'll reach another blog who'll say "GTPlanet says" and then it'll arrive in the rest of the internet as factual).

And we Certainly won't do i't i'n Fractured englishlike what what done appeared in that there blog repleet with runon sentences, and random punctuation! all over the pla'ce*. For that lends itself to a lack of credibility.

* Yes, they're all deliberate errors. Even "repleet". It's a slightly evolved (very slightly) version of sarcasm

The president/CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is taking questions on the Playstation forum...

If we can flood the post with GT5 release date requests, perhaps he'll realise the community frustration & pass the word down to marketing - or maybe even some new GT5 news? (Like confirming the release date will be given at E3)

I know its a long shot, but hell, it only takes 30 seconds to make a post...

So please go here & make your GT5 post:

I've left my question.

I know the non-news is as unreliable as anything we've seen before it, but I fail to see why such a big deal is being made over people talking about the potential release date of a game that is not out yet.

I, like plenty of people on here, fully expect a 2010 release. My evidence? Everything that we have heard to date. While history might suggest otherwise, I see no reason to suspect 2011 just because we already had one delay with Japan. Getting all upset about people discussing it doesn't really achieve much. At least they are not posting new threads about it, and are keeping it to this general discussion thread which is a natural dumping ground for when people get told they cannot create new threads about something. I agree, we don't need new threads about it, but should we name-and-shame people who bring it up in here too?

Edit 1: I will leave a question too.

Edit 2: Haha, you can time the posting of the original post by [UK] ANDYW with the increase in GT5 related questions being posted!

While all this is true, there isn't that much left to do, by what we can see of the latest videos. maminimax's videos - from a build several months old, no less - you can see that the TT-style physics are there, the backgrounds are insanely detailed and realistic looking, lots of cars are on the track, race cars have the basic damage build, and the rest get scuffed. Rather like what Kaz told us we'd have.

Some things are rough, like the particle effects from Prologue, the shadows still need tending to, sounds are good and not-as-good. But from several developer interviews, they spend the last month or two polishing the game and squashing most last minute bugs.

Oh yes, there are questions. Does it have a livery editor? Will race mod finally return, and will there be a tuner mod as well? How far can we customize our cars? Weather and time of day transitions? Do we even get different times of day at the same track - like, is there dusk as well as night racing? What's the online structure? Is there an auction feature? What online league building tools are there? We don't even know if we'll get used cars again.

But I insist that all those issues have been worked on for the past few years, a big smoking crater in the middle of the project called "GT Mobile" aside. I'm sure they're either in or set aside for GT6.

SONY needs a killer app for the rest of the year, and without GT5, I don't see one.

Oh, and I'll throw something up on the blog too.

There is no rule against discussing the release date and no policy or attempt to name and shame people who do so in this thread - there is only a polite request to refrain from making new threads about the release date.

But, while there is no rule against discussing the release date, there is similarly nothing to stop others from pointing out the futility of such speculations, especially when they are often touted as something more than speculation (i.e. supposed 'fact'), along the lines of "this website said it is so, therefore it must be true". This, to me anyway, isn't "getting upset" - it's providing a much-needed counterpoint, which, after all, is what a discussion is supposed to be.

For the record, I fully expected a 2009 release... I even knew the release date. :sly:

Any retailer has its own agenda publishing a supposed release date, first off the site gets free attention and the chances are more people pre-order the game when they "update" the release date.
Only take any news regarding release info serious when it comes straight from the horse's mouth ( and even that's leaving room for speculation it seems unfortunately ).;)

Was that the Xmass release? Which was never official, so technically they never delayed it (see sig).

didnt want to make a new thread. just wondering if anyone here from gtplanet participated in the 33% survey that sony has done.

just wondering because i have a feeling they didnt survey enough people

Any imperfections in a scale model will also be scaled up so I doubt they would scan small models, since scanning doesn't give material properties I could imagine the modelers using models and photos to identify what parts of the cars are made from which materials or have particular properties.

Every Laser Scanner I worked with, includes the information about intensity of every single point - The scanner gives a different intensity value for every material it scans. Theoretically, it would be possible, but knowing what value is what and how fine it can define the value haven't been studied much in the LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) field, as far as I know.

Because of that, I think your right about the photos method.

Vertices can't really be used like that, a vertex is a point and has no size. If you zoom in or out from an image created by filling pixels for vertices they won't change size, you'll only alter the distance between them and if you zoom into even a very high detail model you'll get gaps.

👍

Maybe all those scale models and plastic kits are just handed out by Kaz as rewards and/or act as motivation for finishing modelling the actual cars.

It might be for black parts of the car and glas (car lights), which the scanner cant detect. Unless they paint or mark it somehow, but I doubt they would be allowed to do that with every car.

👍

Sure, but when somebody posts "this site has got a release date of September 2010", that doesn't automatically mean they are stating that it is fact and that it should be taken as gospel. I think (hope!) that most people are smart enough to know that until SONY officially announce a date, everything is pure guesswork. However, it is perfectly reasonable for retailers to be officially informed of the intended launch window without an official public announcement.
