Hey there!

Night Mode on ALL tracks in GT5 is by far my most anticipated feature for the game!
But I have my doubts, since the only source I can think of confirming this feature, is the article of the once quoted PlayStation Magazine, along with weather effects, indy cars etc.

We know that indy cars were officially denied, despite the fact that the PlayStation Magazine confirmed it.
My concern is, how reliable the other "confirmed facts" now REALLY are??

Maybe and very likely, night mode will be integrated, but maybe just to selected tracks and not to all!!!
The recent "Night Racing Trailer" and Screenshots just showed "SS Route", as far as I recognized it...or am I mistaken?? A track, that usually is at night!

Can you guys just give me some evidence, infos, interviews, offcial quotes or any kinda source, other than that article in the PlayStation Magazine for night racing on ALL tracks in GT5?

I just don't wanna lose my hope :)

Thanks a lot!

Maybe you should make a poll out of this. I would vote All tracks to be drivable at night (as well as all being able to be driven backwards :p)

I doubt too.We see only SSR5, that's already night track.
I even don't know how it's possible to do all tracks available at night.Textures were shot at certain time of the day (actually at day). They just can't turn the texture brightness down and voila - "that's is night!".But maybe it's possible!!!But again knowing "quality" they want oh...i really doubt!

(Even for damage we saw only Subaru. That's lot of talking but all possible - the good AND bad)

alucard0712: oh right, cuz for nighttime, developers have to reshoot the textures ... at night... :D
But oh no, but how can the cameras see them at night... or right, with lamps and flash. Hmm, but that way the textures will be lit, not in the dark as they're supposed to be at night.... DARN
Thats it, no night racing ppl, its a myth.
Unless they'll think about something revolutionary... AH got it, change the lightning so it'll look like at night! Gonna call PD after ill get it patented.

In my opinion, we will not get night on all tracks. I believe it was a misunderstanding by the same magazine that said we would have IRL.

good gravy, you noobs, it's only 6 months to release! SURELY you can wait THAT long? (and, personally...i bet they didn't do the inverse like put route 5 in the daylight)

the wait is almost over, guys. for me, the wait will be longer, untill the PS3 gets even cheaper.

Award for biggest smart ass of the day!. Yet your post fails.

The textures are usually balanced out to be lit evenly, so that the lighting itself is done by the game shaders. With proper shaders, all they'll need is one texture and various algorithms telling the game where light sources are and what direction they point.

Ideally I'd like selectable time with each track, or at least dawn, mid-day, dusk, and night options.

Well this depends of PD, if they think its good for us they will GT5 will have, if not they will take it out from the game.

If PD has been good with their resources, there's nothing that shouldn't allow full selection over time of day.

It certainly worries me that the only night track they've shown was already a night track, I seriously hope they do it for all but the way this release has gone down, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they were touting the addition of night racing by re-doing the night racing from before. (and half of Sony thought one thing while PD was doing another)

They will just waste that beautiful SLS AMG headlight illumination from SSR if they never made a night racing at Nurburgring or Le Sarthe. Even if those two are the only track that will have night racing, I'm good. But all tracks are welcome for night racing.

Hm...GT is another story.Textures in GT is photo-realistic.And what shaders do they use?I think no CPU power left for it.They have another 6 month but we don't see even single WRC or NASCAR race.I think they are on priority and i bet they are NOT finished yet!!!

I remember in old NFS (3,4) textures where different for different day time so...
However i think night track with existed textures already better than in other games.

Suggest a game with good night-time racing!!!I go play it)))

The thought of racing Trial Mountain at night (or any time of day other than in broad daylight) sounds fantastic, but I doubt I'll get that chance in this game. There is little chance they built a lighting model that would dynamically change the way things appear based on time of day, but if they have...kudos to them. It would at least give some justification to the lengthy development.

or maybe is the same pd's surprise...
they show us ss in night to not show us another track in night...
all the feature will be kept for the final release... this im sure..

A week ago i played Burnout Ultimate!Great 60fps graphics,time of day changes...All perfect.Hmmm.Maybe it's possible...
But yes Burnout uses some fictional textures, seems like the texture source have already those textures in all conditions.

That's the thing - do they have all textures repeated for the various lighting conditions, or do they use the same textures throughout but make the lighting model dynamic? Not sure, I'm no expert on this kind of thing, but a dynamic model sounds a bit harder to implement than having a whole bunch of "pre-lit" textures.

My guess is tracks that are know for endurance races (races more likely to happen at night) will be night races. Circuit de Sarthe, Nurburgring, Spa (if it's in the game). I'm guessing the majority of tracks are not set up for night racing anyway - a full light set up to FIA standards is quite costly.

And in Burnout we have dynamic. In GT i very doubt that even static will exist.

Sorry, but that's just nonsense. Obviously something exists, because we have seen videos and screen shots of both daylight and night racing. We just don't know if the model is static (using pre-lit textures), dynamic, or some combination of the two.

Can you provide those shots?

What i remember:
SSR5 at night
last seconds of E3 '09 video ('Ring at "night", actually by change HUE value of the video)
Suzuka in evening in GT5p euro intro
London at night in GT Citroen video

So all can happen. That's be VERY GOOD!!!

At least New York (if it's in) should be at night. Times Square would be freaking awesome!

Anyway, Hollywood tricks nightshots by filming at day through (blue) filters since the film business started, so who knows if and/or how PD will implement it?

The way PD do things (ie. go all out to make the most mindblowing showcase graphics and then compromise everything else around that ideal) it wouldn't surprise me if there was only 1 night track and half the cars couldn't even race on it.

Provide what shots? I simply said that we have seen footage of daytime racing, and nighttime racing. I didn't say we had seen each track under various lighting conditions.

Yep, and the point made is that the one track we have seen night footage of is SSR5, which has always been a night-only track. Apart from some promo videos which are traditionally misleading, the evidence so far suggests that magazine was full of *** when they said the day-night will by dynamic. Gaming journalism is such a joke!

Maybe City track will available at night. This is good trade-off!
If serius i don't wan't to drive 'Ring at night except than for pure interest.
I mean night city is not pointless,but real-word tracks - don't know.
Again for 24h le-mans.DON'T KNOW!
