I think it really is now.

Now race event 2 is coming to an end, I see less and less people online. the blue dots in my friends list are dying out and when here is a blue one, they aren’t playing Gran Turismo in most cases. Also here on the forum I see less people online.

We need (maybe even deserve) something new.

What are your thoughts?

If you have decent PC, you really should go to 'radicalsportcars.com', and ask them to send free 'one month iRacing trial-code'. I have now been racing there few weeks, and I really recommend to everyone who is bored to GT5P to take that chance to see what this new concept of racing-sim is.

It really gave me back my lost passion to online-racing. This 'safety-rating' what they have is great, and it gives new spirit to every start you will take.

Even you will find it's not your thing, it will give many new point of views after that month, and maybe GT5P feels again much more enjoyable.

I can see it's not for those who like to jump for car to another car and to another car... but those who like very high quality racing, and awesome physics, it's dream came true.

i have only a laptop. and i will switch to PC SIM when im moved and have my own room. if i also put a PC in the living now my girl will go crazy. my playseat just survives. I never was into sim racing since the release of GT5P (played old GT before but not like im playing it now). so I still have a long way to go, once the full version GT5 comes out.
So you admit GT5P needs something new

I brought GT5:P purely for the WRS, the admins do more than enough to warrant me to keep my interests going in having fun and furthering my ability. The interest in the WRS is growing, maybe not as big as it will be when GT5 is out. People do want GT5 though and Prologue is limiting, you just need to find ways of being entertained by it, for me its the WRS.

There is still enough interest out there.

I setup and event about aweek ago and 69 people signed up in 2 days. Still going strong and might even break the 100 mark.

👍

Thanks Aki but your link is wrong :) it should be www.radicalsportScars.com. I knew about iRacing for a while and will try that out knowing they have a trial period available.

this topic has been going since November (it's now March) and even the actual question of whether the game is dying off is not dying off yet. I think the game is still going strong - people go in and out of phases, and people will return to this game.

I'm glad i bought GT5P abit late.

That way i have some playability left in it.
I think with Gran Turismo games even when 100% complete you can always have a good time trying out new techniques and just enerally improving your times and having some good races.

I don't feel it grows that old.

My friends aren't online much either any more, some GT fans go into hybernation between games, others play what they have all year round.:)

WRS is good for keeping GT5:P alive and improving your skills.:)

Well spoken

Look. It's the dedicated ones like us who actually keep this game going. Unfortunately, I don't really play online. This is the first racing game which I feel like I can keep playing without getting bored. I'm trying to get all of the cars in the game (i know some people already did that) and get all golds (i know, i'm slow.). As far as GTP membership, you will see more people when GT5 comes out, as everybody will be flocking to our threads for tunes of the prologue cars. So don't worry.

I noticed the same.... Less and less people online whenever I log into PSN.... Oh well, I must admit I have grown a little bored with GT5 as well... Been playing a bit of BF: Bad Company and GTA... But I'll be back... just doing some tunes every now and then.... when are you going to be online again Roomie!?! Havent seen you online in a while either... but youre probably busy with the GTP Event 02.. I dont know if you had your last race yet... but good luck!! I noticed you were one of the last drivers left in your division... Nice one! 👍

As perhaps one of the older members of this great forum, I’ve played all of the GT games so far, concepts and all the bits in between, on line play really is in its infant years at the moment and does have a long way to go just to catch up with AI on disk play, but having said that I still think that in years to come, online play will take over and surpass that of disk, games will be more on download media straight to hard drives, let’s not forget how far we have come in just a few years since the Sinclair ZX spectrum, when you think about it its mind blowing how it has grown.

You younger guys and girls are really lucky; you will have all this to come there will be everything you can think about, private rooms and so on, unfortunately my age and health condition may be against me enjoying it in the way that you will be able to.

So when you ask is it dying off, I think not, I think it’s more like in limbo, just waiting for the next major breakthrough in hardware or software to push the online gaming revolution into the next stage.

Remember when making comments that all these things cost money, at the moment we enjoy free online play and this great forum.

Well said drandad, ....:sly:

It's hard to keep casual or even hardcore users stuck in with what is basically a Prologue game. The lack of variety in online events... for example, dedicated and private rooms, etcetera... is kind of a turn-off for some, too.

And then there's the limits for time trials and ghost lapping, which means that you can't save ghosts for your modified tunes to show off unless there's an event in which those tunes would be legal. For those of us who spend countless hours testing and testing and testing, that's the kiss of death.

But GT is the kind of game that you don't just pick up and go. I guess I'm one of those people Paulie is talking about. I get bored after a while (no more challenges), do something else for a few months, and then get sucked straight back in.

Still and all... GT5P is a terrific game for what is basically a "demo"... five years ago, most "full" racing games didn't have this variety... so I'm still happy with it.

Your event is awesome. Well done. This kind events keep the people going. Well done Jack 👍

Your right I’ve played more online then the time it toke me to complete the game. But after 1000 and 1000 laps on suzuka and fuji. It will get a bit bored
If there will be never another gran turismo again, I will be playing the rest of my life. Don’t get me wrong. But not as much as the last 12 months

My friends aren't online much either any more, some GT fans go into hybernation between games, others play what they have all year round.:)
That’s what I mean

Again that’s what I mean.

I lost to Animera for reaching the division championship final. He was by far the better man.

Haven’t seen you for a while either. How’s life mate…………I’m doin 👍 btw

EDIT: for the people I didn’t quote. With dying off, I’m meaning that there aren’t much people online lately. And with the quotes from Blitz, Aki and Paulie. I know enough, I know this guys a while now.

And please don’t get me wrong I really love the game, but if there is nothing happening till the release of the full game. I’m afraid the tracks will be pretty empty.

I don't know whether it's dying or not but from the perspective of someone who hasn't played at all over the last 4 or 5 months I can only say how awful the online racing is now.

I thought I'd plug the old DFP in and see who was online only to be greeted by something resembling Outrun crossed with Need For Speed :)

When did taking shortcuts become the norm?
When did the penalty system become so lenient?
There were always punters but now it seems you can punt without getting penalised, whats going on?

In short what has happened to the game I used to love back in 2008?

I guess the DFP can go back under the stairs until GT5 finally comes out and we can all start again with a clean slate.

/goes off to sulk.

Which race did you try out?

I have not switched my PS3 on for nearly a week now :guilty: i got bored joining races at scheduled times and finding no other members there :grumpy:

I tried to play GT5P last week but it was like trying to read a book again after you'd just finished it - too familier, nothing excites like it did the first time etc etc.

I keep on saying to myself that it will be oworth the wait and to be honest with you the first 3 months of this year have flown by so if it is a Christmas release then its a long wait but it would be nice to know for sure if it will be out for Christmas - its the not knowing and zero news from PD that most grates me.

PD suck big time when it comes to communication between itself and it's loyal customers.

I mean this site is dedicated to it's true hardcore fanbase and they give us diddly squat info.

They are daft not to give us information because if we had some interesting news we'd all talk about it and the word of mouth would grow and more and more people will be excited and will want to buy the game.

On other forums when they speak about the relase date of GT5, PD are really classed as a joke in the amount of time it takes them, this would stop if they told us why its taking so long, what they are working on, what they plan to do next - good comunication - i don't know why i'm typing this now i'm just burning calaries and wearing out my keyboard because PD will read this and still not give a big fat (you know the rest).

Yeah you're wright about the PD part... I can't understand it either, it's just that half year or year that's a bit to long under normal circomstances. They really are a joke when it comes to talking with honnesty and openess to the press and fans, or there is smth else...

So what IS going on out there in their studio??......

And for the rest of your message I can only say that by joining the WRS you discover a part of GT5P you've never met or saw before, and very exciting to say the least!! try it!

that why i pulled this threat out of the dust'. you know what i mean my good old mate steve

Not turned on my PS3 for over 2 months now....having too much fun with RACE Pro and the decent racing it provides.

GT5P was a nice diversion when I got bored of Forza2 (after over 50,000 miles raced) but it only lasted a couple of weeks, Now RACE pro is in and the fixes for it are announced I doubt my PS3 will be used for much more than a beta machine for Supercar Challenge until the end of the year.

LOL i know mate :) fancy a few races tomorrow night?

no sorry mate i would love but im out of town and back on sunday. just had some races with a friend. if my friend wasn't there it would be very lonely :grumpy: biggest grid was 5 cars with only one gtp tag and the rest where div 36 drivers

I can totally sympathize with your frustration, but there are good reasons why software companies don't give out detailed press release's regarding release dates and features.

If PD were to come out and say "The game will be released in August and will have x,y and z features". Then during the final compile and de-bugging they run into a major unforeseen hurdle and the release date gets pushed back another 3 months, then another 3 months.

The outcry on forums like these would be incredible "They said it would be out in August", "PD don't keep their word" etc. etc. etc. and that would be from the fans - let alone the haters.

The same goes for features, PD find that they can't actually make feature "x" work in the game the way they had intended so they must scrap the idea. "PD promised us it would have feature x, I can't believe they lied to us about it" etc. etc.

Marketing blunders like this can cost companies plenty in both sales and reputation. I know of one 3D software company that made this mistake and their once loyal user base turned on them and their share price plummeted almost to the point of bankrupting them.

So I would suggest we all just sit tight and wait... there's not much else that we can do. And if Amar212's cryptic clues are anything to go by, I'd say the wait will be worth it.

Good games can be made in a relatively short period of time - Great games will always take a little longer.

I really think that GT5P is dying off because PD hasn't released a decent update since spec ii. The 3-car update was quite pointless, and they've teased us with pictures of an MB C63, a Maserati GranSport, an MR2, god knows when they'll release a new update. I'm calling one in april, which should introduce about 30-40 more cars, maybe another track... but if they want GT5 to sell well in December, they had better release a new update to keep our interest.

Teased us? Not at all, those were cars we derived from photos of their development studio/s. They're not coming until GT5.
