What Penalty System do you want in GT5???

I think the game should make you do a stop-go penalty in the pits if you take an obvious shortcut like cutting across the grass at the hairpin at Suzuka.

I would say, yeah Penalty should make you end up in PITS.
Same with iRacing, I think it's perfect penalty system. But people would not care because there will be a lot of CASUAL drivers out there... So I think this could only work for Single Player..

So stick with SLOWDOWN like in GT5P but fix it so that the person get penalized when he hits you and not you!

Or alternative, have both, also option for online and offline modes to choose what penalty you want.

There was actually an option for this in GT4's arcade mode, well a drive through rather than a stop-go penalty. Although, one would only get this penalty for ramming the AI cars and wall riding, not for shortcuts. I think stop-go/drive through penalties would be a great addition to GT mode and online races, but only for the longer races.

I agree that if the back end steps out ( in the rain, due to oil patch or hit a patch of grass ) and you spin into the kitty litter the cars are stuck there or until it's magically towed out & put back onto the track again ( Marshalls each waving yellow flags ).

they should follow the sportsman's conduct rules.
time added on for infractions.
disqualification for repeat offenses.

although the complexity of the rules and the judges would be a feature in its own right.

I like rfactor's penalty system, it goes all by real life penalties. Stop and Go, Drive Through, Black Flag for excessive dangerous driving and not serving penalties. It gives you a warning if you cut the track and if you do again, you get a stop and go.

I really cant stand the GT5 system, Only recently got onto the top licence races (and the penalty system) and really dont like the bugs in it.

Something based on real racing would be a lot better.

With the short cuts, they just need to make more harsh curbs, so they cause damage to the car when you go over them!

Nahh, I think they have to stay true to the original tracks design. Plus, that's what curbs are for, isn't it?

Dirty tyres I tell thee! :D

That penilty system is stupid in Prologue. We dont need to be slowed down if we are being punished with a time penilty for going off track. Also since when do cars slow down that much when they drive on grass?

The penalty system on GT5P is horrible, so frustrating I rarely play online any more. I'm tired of getting rammed from behind and getting penalized...so stupid. GT5 needs a new penalty sytem, especially if damage is implemented.

Damage. Time penalties for time trials. Pit drive through for corner cutting in sim modes, or time penalties according to lane length on final laps. ability to toggle all these options in multiplayer modes.

Be careful what you wish for on that point. Those "punters" you speak of could very easily buy a couple cheap cars, ram all the supercars behind them when the race starts, and therefore piss off serious drivers while they themselves have no problem buying another cheap car.

Yes but if there is a system where each person pays for the damage done to all cars not just their own then the "punters" will never earn any credits, in fact they will always be in debt. However that will be a very complicated system to implement because it will be difficult defining who was responsible for the accident, for instance when your in a toe behind someone & they brake test you.

Hey BolgOfThe North i'm not far away from yourself, i'm in Stoke.

Cool, I'm near Uttoxeter, I don't know what you think but I don't regard myself as from the north, we could claim to be either northern or southern, but Bolg of the north is just a crazy name I like out of the book The Hobbit.

Oh right ok, i live in the Meir Park/Blythe Bridge area.Never read The Hobbit, must be quite good then ha ha.Well we are more north than Manchester anyway.

This could catch on, why not have the damage turned off for all drivers & the offenders car gets damaged if playing like a pleb. That would seriously deter planks, from doing that repeatedly.

I voted for a new penalty system.

I basically want a realistic penalty system. Penalties for cutting corners etc, but only if you gain a good advantage.

Bin the GT5P one. Too many times, I was getting penalised for others' mistakes.

so you think shortcuts shouldn't be penalized? o_0
It's the only thing they should keep from the prologue

It shouldnt cut your throttle though... it should force a pitstop stop/go penalty or take several seconds off the finishing time - and highlight the fact that driver has cheated.

Name and shame!!!!!!!!!! :-)

No penalty system. Anything they try to implement is going to suck like a 600-gigawatt Dyson. In a public match punting and cutting corners will be the norm. No amount of stupid penalties will help that, trust me.

If it's a private match then there should be a gentleman's agreement not to cheat and if it's some kind of organised tournament or event the replays will be used to judge and penalise/disqualify drivers after the event. Humans can do this much better than playstations.

I've been rammed into the back of and penalised for it too many times to think there's anything PD can code which would be 100% fair.

For offline gaming - no penalties. At least until the AI can fit their job title.

The stupid penalties on GT5P S Level made me give up on the game for a long time (well, I think BIA3, MW & COD5 might have been partially to blame...)

I think the penalty for taking short cuts should be gone hear me out on this.
But in turn
- have full power in the grass
- have no control which means easy to slide around and damage vehicle
- even when reentering the course, the tires have a low amount of grip requiring tire change in pit
- the effects will vary on car hp, setup and tire compounds

All penalties should be delt with by pit lane by the number of infractions
- drive through
- 10sec pit
- 20sec pit etc

When the tosser who thinks he can get away with it because his dad/uncle/grandfather/brother/sister/mother/aunt/grandmother/cousin/best friend is a marshal or one of the track's owners whacks you, he should get a 5 second penalty. Or he spins out suddenly, Mario Kart style.

So everyone cuts the final chicane that leads to a straight on the last lap becuase you don't have to fight your way out of it, it's a straight after that and you won't face an extended pit penalty since it's the flnal straight and final lap?

Regarding the penalty system, I think they should just punish shortcutters.

For ramming and wall riding, they should incorporate full damage, meaning the car can be totalled all together. If the car is totalled, the user would have to buy a new car or claim an insurance. Once an insurance is claimed, the premium sky rockets just like in real life. After numerous claims, the premium should get so high that it would be impossible for the driver to get insurance and thus would have to start over again. That way, irresponsible drivers are punished and detered from acting immaturely on the road.

As a plus, the insurance portion may also bring another dimension of realism into the game. I know it won't be in the game, but imagine how much more carefully you would have to drive, as in real life !

What do you guys think?

Damage should take care of a fair amount of it, but I would like a flag system, and from the looks of the GT5A TT demo, it is being worked on.
If they make it like rfactor's penalty system it would be pretty good and more true to life.

A good idea would be to let damage sort out the strikes against walls etc...
Then let a drive through penalty if you knock someone out of contention, or just really hard (but with far better judgement than GT5P in spec 1 and 2)
And if you cut corners the 5 second penalty, but only limit to 50mph

It's just an idea and its probably just going to fail anyway because as far as I can tell, the penalty system in GT5P was very harsh when car collision came along, and the same goes for GTPSP, where in one of the challenges (Ultimate challenge, Laguna Seca, Dodge Viper Racecar) I would drive straight on, a Ford would hit me in the side to follow the driving line, and I would lose the challenge >.< meh, it needs penalties for shortcuts, and for serious demolition derby, but the wall knocks will be taken care of by damage (on the premium cars at least...)

The flag system for real life works, so add that in :)

There's a big option you forgot to include: User toggle-able penalty systems.

Everyone is happy. Because I prefer the classic GT style of game play where you can ram cars, walls and anything else with reckless abandon and not give a hoot. If I want to challenege myself, I'll drive the line and learn my own lessons from my mistakes, if I want realism, then I'll take my RL car and do an auto-cross
