Well yeah, you didn't enter ANY of the info needed to calculate the final drive! You have to fill in ALL the parameters under Optional Vehicle Info. Now since this is an imaginary race car you won't be able to find the tire size online, so you'll have to to set the final using the procedure outlined in the post I linked previously.

I've entered the desired top speed, engine red line, min. & max. final drive (datas which can be found in the car setting menu) & it calculated the final gear perfectly. :dopey:👍

I don't know if the tire width, tire profile & wheel diameter makes a big difference, still testing it. Unfortunately these datas can't be found in the car setting menu.

So, have I to google for the real life car specs & use their tire/wheel combo or don't you think it's more based on the ingame tires you used (comfort, sport, racing & hard, mid, soft)? I think it's based on the ingame tires you use, because they define the braking, cornering & accelating grip. I might be wrong, but it's more logical to me. 💡

GT5 Calc f.e. use this tire system. Maybe you can test a bit if it's possible to tune the gear box for the tire setup (and implement it via an drop down menu)? :confused:



Anyways, here's my final conclusion (based on v3.0):

👍 tunes working like charm (you'll get so much more response from the cars, they stick to the street like heel, the twitchy'ness of the cars is nearly complete gone, it's much more obvious where the 'loosing control' point is & therefore you can handle before)
👍 easy to use & pretty self explaning
👍 option to completely adjust the tunes for your own preference

👎 the gear tuning is not very good explained (but the gear tune is very important, because it can change the car under accelating completely)
👎 no all-in-one solution (I have to enter the specs in both of your tools to get the car & the gear tune) /maybe combine both tools?
👎 only hp & mph (means a lot guys need to use an online converter to get the job done) /fixable with a drop down menu?
👎 the OP (first post) could be a bit more organized & with less unnecessary blabla & a bit more color and some pictures (Just more focussed on the tuning tool. You know the guys want not to read a book, they want to know how to tune their cars.)



Overall I am very very happy with your tuning tool & I'll recommend it to everyone (I'll make free commercial for it in my signature). :) I like to thank you very much for your tool, now I can tune all my cars for myself without searching everywhere for not working tunes from some wannabe tuners. :sly:👍

Note for testers: to notice the difference & also to make the car more driveable you have to turn off all aids (skid recovery, traction control,...), ABS:1 & put on race/tuner/super cars RSoft tires, on sport cars SSoft tires & on compact cars CSoft tires. The tune might not be perfect for every track, but it's a very good basic & allroud tune to start with. If you want to tune a car just for one track (f.e. seasonal time trials), then you can still improve it by fine-tuning it. :sly:

I'm pretty sure that SPEC 3.0 is an 'all-in-one solution', there are the gear ratios on the right side of the suspension/LSD settings.
The only thing missing in the transmission tune of SPEC 3.0(other than the advanced settings) is the final drive. Personally I just adjust it by guessing how fast the car can go at top speed and test, if it is significantly off I adjust it.

I do agree that there should be different units, I need to google ' *** kg m to lb ft ' every time I tune a car.

Tire size is absolutely critical for calculating final drive ratios. It can't be done any other way, period. The overall diameter of the tire affects how far the car travels per engine revolution and is therefore mathematically necessary.

So, have I to google for the real life car specs & use their tire/wheel combo or don't you think it's more based on the ingame tires you used (comfort, sport, racing & hard, mid, soft)? No. When it comes to gearing it's tire diameter, not tire type, which really matters. I know it sucks that GT doesn't give us tire sizes, but there's nothing I can do about that. The type of tire really only effects how much wheelspin you get in lower gears. If this is a problem use the spread function to create a closer gear set. Problem solved.

I continue to think about ways to integrate tire type into the suspension setting, but I see no need to factor it into gearing. The end result would simply be wider ratios on cars with stickier tires. I don't find this particularly desirable for a circuit tune.

The complete gear sheet was created for my personal use, I only posted it after someone mentioned the desire to create one. I know it's a pain to use, which is why I integrated a simplified version into 3.0.

This has been mentioned, and I'm working on it for 3.0. As I'm focusing my efforts on Quick Tune there will likely be no further updates for the dedicated gear sheet. Sorry.

I agree with you on the math thing/rev, but how should we know the exact measurements of each tire? because there is no measures for the tires inside the game, should we find it out on the internet, based in the original tire measurements? or just invet it??

Yes, you will have to use the internet to find tire sizes. I suppose you could enter a generic tire size and then use the tire size variance correction tool to correct for it, but that's a lot of unnecessary work in my opinion. In that case you're frankly better off using the trial-and-error method I've described previously.
 
So I like the suspension QT sheet. It got my Audi R10 handling pretty smooth, it could use some trimming out though,max downforce is far from ideal in most cases.

I do have a problem with the transmission tuning sheet however, it keeps giving me final drive numbers that are way off the chart.

Here are my numbers:

HP: 668
Torque: 835 ft.-lb's
Weight: 925 kg
Desired Top Speed: 220 mph (bit of a guestimate, but easily acheivable number)
Max Power: 668HP@6400RPM (not on the sheet but still usefull)
Redline: 7000 RPM
Tire Width: 370*
Tire Profile: 68%*
Wheel Diameter: 18"*
Min. Final Drive: 2.000
Max. Final Drive: 5.000
The tire dimensions I know as facts, pulled from "Mulsanne's Corner", everything else is in-game data.

Here is the initial numbers the gear sheet gives me:
1st: 2.834
2nd: 1.863
3rd: 1.338
4th: 1.000
5th: .768
FD: 2.242

These numbers entered in the game give me a calculated top speed of 341 mph and show 5th gear completely off the map and 4th gear cut off as well. In testing the car at Le Mans (where I'm setting it up for specifically) I reached a top speed of ~218 MPH @ ~6000 RPM in 4th gear (about halfway up the cars rev lights) with max. downforce. Upon plugging my observed speed into the "Tire Size Variance Correction" field, it tells me to change my FD ratio to 1.433 which is lower than the game allows. Not to mention that the lower FD goes the calculated top speed goes higher and I start to max out even lower in 4th gear.


A few other things I've noticed/tried out that might help you to help me:

1.) Under "Vehicle Parameters" there is a field titled "Calculated Tire Diameter(in)" with a figure of 18.2. I'm curious how this is calculated as it appears to be wrong. I know again for a fact that the tire diameter of this car is 780mm or about 28" (Mulsanne's Corner again.) Not sure If I can manually change this parameter without F-ing things up, will try later though.

2.) Tried the same settings at Le Mans with minimum downforce just to see what happened and hit a top speed of ~222 @ ~6000 RPM in 4th gear still. Again same problem with the Variance Correction, it told me to set a FD ratio of 1.460, below the minimum setting in the game.


So whats my next step? Presumably this is where the "Advanced User Controls" come into play but without really knowing how they effect the results they aren't much help to me.

I'm having trouble understanding how you saw the wheel size but missed the tire measurements directly beneath it :confused:
Not to mention the fact that I never claimed WHEEL diameter to be 28". I quite clearly listed WHEEL DIAMETER as 18". Don't bother responding to questions not asked of you, especially when you are not even paying attention.

I entered your specs exactly as given, and my copy of the sheet is giving me a final drive of 4.658 and a tire diameter of 37.81 inches. :confused: I think you miscalculated the sidewall, I divided it by 2 which gave me a more likely profile of 34%. The result was a tire diameter of 27.91 inches, which approximately conforms to a 710 mm diameter tire (710 mm / 25.4 = 27.95 inches), and a 3.438 final drive. I have no idea how you came up with a 2.242 final, I can only assume you inadvertently altered a parameter somewhere. Try downloading a fresh copy of the sheet and starting from scratch.

After a bit more playing with it I've already come to the same conclusion lol. My data and your formulae were right, I just messed up the math on the sidewall percentage somehow. Actually I just manually changed the "Calculated Tire Diameter" to the 27.9" I knew it to be and got an FD ratio of 3.437. Now I'm just fine tuning the ratio with the Variance Compensation tool.

After figuring this out, yet before intense running and fine tuning of the suspension setup, I am prepared to say it works pretty damn well. Well done sir.
 
I've been fooling around with a new braking system as several people have suggested. It's based around adjustable strength rather than adjustable bias. I'd like to incorporate both, but it wouldn't work mathematically. I just wanted to throw out this preliminary version to get some user feedback:

I've also been experimenting with ABS off. Perhaps my thumbs aren't up to the task, because the only brake setting I've found that's even remotely controllable on any car I've tested so far is 0/0. Even then the car seems prone to snap oversteer under trail braking as the rear tires inevitability lock up. Raising the front brake strength to compensate simply causes the fronts to lock worse. I'm tossing around the idea of altering the suspension and LSD settings to try to reduce this snap oversteer when brake strength 0 (ABS off) is entered. Not sure how this will work quite yet.

I do believe Jordan allows PDF's to be directly uploaded to GTPlanet? This would be extremely helpful for mobile users. Mediafire, MegaUploads, etc are worthless to smart phone and tablet users. Please consider this as GTPlanet does have an iPhone & Android app.

Oppositelock's downloads are Excel files and should work on most smartphones if they have an app which can open Excel workbooks.
A pdf would be useless as it isn't capable of doing any calculations.
If you have an Android phone, try my app (link in my sig) which contains oppositelock's quick tune formulae up to version 3. It also contains the 'lite' version of oppositelock's transmission calculator.
There isn't an iPhone version of the app.

i prefer to have the Vehicle Information first before Vehicle Specifications in the left-hand column. i also added comments (flyouts) to B25, 26 & 29 with info from your explainations of how to use this spreadsheet.

That's awesome RABBIDMAGGOTT, this will save me tons of time. I just started using this and have only done 1 car so far but it was a great starting point and I planned to use it always. I can't say enough how much it is appreciated Oppositelock for all of your hard work.

It's people like the 2 of you who make this game so enjoyable.
