No big game is a nice Joke.
GT 5 is the first game i came across, which was actually SOLD OUT on amazon.de.
Even those blockbusters (selling wise not quality wise) from Blizzard or EA ever got sold out there, to my knowledge.
As to reviews, i read the comment from IGM a bid different than you.
I read: "We are not allowed to say anything before release!"
May it be as it is, I really don't care, what the reviews are judging. My GT 5 will arrive Tue or Wed and I will surely be happy or will be very very disapointed.
Cause I will judge GT 5 alone on the fun I get from it.
To be honest, I bought my PS 3 just for 2 games. FF XIII and GT 5. FF was a blast now it's time that GT 5 keeps my PS 3 busy ^^

SO you are telling me that Assasins Creed,God of War,Hot Pursuit,Little Big PLanet (all in the Boom category)are bigger titles than GT5 .How is that exactly.

Sim fans are already quite rare and unlike in years past, where you might have one big FPS on console, now the casual market are fragmented between FPS and motion gamers, so they're buying up Call of Honour and Medal of Duty games in their droves and barely touching racing games of any kind. Look at Shift last year. That game has been in the bargain bins since new year, simply because the casual market would rather play an FPS or Hot Pursuit style game than learn the ways of a sim racer.

GT5 will sell more than all of the games mentioned above, apart from Black Ops probably.

57 million copies sold since GT1, with 14 million for GT4 alone. The latest NFS, Assassins Creed, MoH etc. won't even come close.

IGN reformed their ratings. They only give ratings that end in a 0 or 5. So 10.0, 9.5, 9.0, 8.5 etc.

Forza 3 got a 9.4 on IGN. I'm willing to be GT5 will get a 9.5, but I could see it easily getting a 9.0 because of some obvious criticisms.

So...
IGN: 9.5
Gamespot: 9.0
Gametrailers: 9.3
EDGE: 9.0

Metacritic Score: 94.

Cool, i didn't realise that about IGN, well spotted

i like what you did there :) ( ahem.. as a spurs fan i was just like to.. haha)

Gt5 is going be to stella, it is a title that people may consider picking up just because of its brand. This will sell big bucks.

AC:Brotherhood, and LBP:2 won't sell as much, but will sell really well, but both of these titles are relatively new gaming franchises, and both , come their next iterations will sell loads and loads- probably as much as GT5 will, i'm ready to bet that LBP:2 will be a run away success next year. Its not often you get a title that breeds so much creativity. And sony will market this game just as much as GT5.

I think you make a very valid point about the split of the market.

Since the last GT, the gaming market, i think it would be fair to say, as changed considerably. So many people are new, or more aware of the gaming market, so peoples cash are split more then ever. I for one, whilst picking up GT, will also be picking up donkey Kong country for the wii, the week after. The range of titles for the xmas rush , is more varied than ever. it be interesting to see how GT5 will do, the seasoned gamers, judging by the uk,playstations forums, will buy this game, the name of the title alone will and is, doing that. For the new gamers, i think advertisting will simply show the game as the most comprehensive , realistic car game you can buy.

I'm also considering picking up NFS:hp because i think it will be fun, but due to GT5 coming out, i know i won't play it. And im short on cash. and i can't have anything diverting my attention from GT5 :)

I see no reason why gaming sites can't do 2 part reviews. It would be nice for people to at least get a review of the single player portion early and then when the online is working they can just update the review with their thoughts on the multiplayer aspects. All they'd have to do is score each part separately and give a final combined score afterwards. IGN would have gotten lots of site traffic if they did it MY way.

So good idea? :)

I understand where you are going with this But Petrol head gamers aren't rare check out previos Granturismo games sales,Aside from Call of Duty (multi platform)it outsells them all.Even Prolouge which a demo sold very well So no these games are still not "bigger than GT5".Just my 1.99 cents anyway

I think sony imposed to reviewers not to publish the reviews before the release of the game (I think publishers do this especially for big franchises which have more to loose from reviews than to gain) if reviewers give GT5 or call of duty or halo a 9.5/10 score this wont increase a lot the sales of those games in their first days of shipment, but if they give those games 6/10 that could have negative effects on sales...

so why take the risks ? let those who ordered the game based only on hype get their copies before reading any review...

There weren't really many big FPS franchises back then, nor a 'casual' market and many people would have bought GT because it was a big name, not because they're hardcore car fans. I know of a few people who owned GT3 who weren't really into cars, my best friend included.

Lol Halo was already big when it went to market in 2001.

Halo, like GT, fueled its genre on consoles. What did it have as a rival in 2001? Timesplitters and Medal of Honor, pretty much. Without Halo, I doubt the FPS would have blossomed like it did on consoles as it was always seen as being something best suited to the PC.

Prolouge sold fantastic for a demo. The time trail has been downloaded by a huge number of people.GT5's pre-order Numbers are equally immpresive. If the reviews are positive than I have no doubt this game will sell as good or even better than GT3 but only time will tell.As for the Embargo IGN said their review will hot their website on Wednesday,THe Playstation Mag edition of this month(feat.GT5 review)will also hit Wednesday(unless people are subscribers)so after tommorow we could be getting some reviews.

A game that costs £20 is NOT a demo.

its a mini game.

I'm annoyed prologue gets called a demo, you wouldnt pay for any other demo's so why GT5?

its its own seperate game.

the TT trial was however a Demo and also a competition. which was cool.

I Actually bought a LCD TV,a G25 and a PS3 for this demo because it is GT5.You may call it a mini game but simple fact it is a demo(huge or not). And No I will not have bought a demo or even paid any money for any demo that isn't Granturismo

I actually feel like GT5P felt more like a real (small) game than GT5 is shaping up to be... with GT5 you get a lot more content, but a lot of it seems to be half way done and makes GT5 look a lot like a demo for GT6.

Surely you must be joking. I'm not even going to take this comment seriously, really now...

When they added cars they added a 1000 of them, when they released a demo it had it's own disk and could actually be counted as a real game.PD do things big and that is what the GT series is "big".That's why we love it.:)

Considering the pattern GT5 is sort of a demo. Just like GT1 was practicly a demo to the epic GT2, and GT3 was one for the fantastic GT4.

No not joking... because GT5P felt like a finished product... albeit a small finished product. The cars were all equal (sans 1) nothing was obviuosly missing or only there on certain occasions...

But GT5 really feels like we are half way to GT6 and they just gave us what they had... too much stuff that is showcased as possible in one area but then just not ready or done yet in other areas (standard and premiums obviously).

Size isn't necessarily what dictates how finished a game feels, and an unifinished game to me says demo.

Yes except more so in that GT1 and GT3 felt finished... there were not features that were done to some parts of the game but still obviously in the process of being added to the rest of the game...

Still no reviews... are they afraid at Sony that GT5 won't be praised as the 5 years messiah?? This blocade is a bit disturbing...

Review sites I've looked at say there are no reviews because the online portion isn't active until release day, therefore making it impossible to give a full review yet.

Edit: ^ what he said
