thankyou for the comments guys. there is no real reason why you cant make one of these machines yourselves!
i have helped another few forum goers (on another forum) do the exact same thing to old sega cabinets. this is becmoing a very popular mod now that you can actaully emulate the real sega rally and daytona usa games with proper force feedback, more and more folks are turning to the these cabs to build thier driving set up!
and get this- my set up there cost much less than one of the racing chairs or cockpits you can buy!
eg.. you can buy one of these old machines fom ebay for a few hundred £ or $ or EU, sell off the hardware (game boards and components etc) and easily make all you money back plus more!.. then all you need is a happ wheel from another old cabinet, a logitech driving force GT or EX or g25 (if your brave) to hack the happ onto (and an amplifier)!
my cab cost £650 working with game, i sold the insides and game for over £800.. it is now costing arounf £250 all in and plays any pc, ps2, or ps3 racing game- and all the old arcade games too!! with REAL FFB!
Best DIY Rig ever! I wish i can find a cabinet and try to pull something like that. I thought the happ wheel is only 270 degree. Is there any model that has 900 degree?
yeh, it is 270, but to be honest- i find this to be NO limitation? if you watch my video, when i go incar view, you can see my hands and the cockpit hands turn at the same pace and angle.. i feel no restriction whatsoever in any game.
there are many of you guys out there searching for a good wheel to play on.. for me (from an arcade enthusiast hobby background), this was a no brainer!
think about it.. what is the best FFB experience in a driving game you have ever had? that 1st ever play of daytonaUSA or sega rally? maybe it was ridgeracer2? or any one of the many other arcade games you played!
these arcade motors are huge and have immense power! built industrial spec to last and take years of day in day out abuse- and still perform!
the power in my Happ is so great, i cannot hold it straight, nothing subtle about it.. i can ofcourse turn down the voltage- but there's no fun in that!!
cheers..i hope i have inspired, and if anyone want to try a job like this, i would be happy to assist with all the knowledge and know how and where to gets.
