After performing the permanent borrow glitch multiple times I've noticed that my game runs better, and smoother with less drops in framerate than if I were to install the game on my PS3. I also noticed that loading times were actually improved if the game wasn't installed on my system. Only downside to this was the excess noise coming from my PS3 when it's loading from the disc...

WTF? I thought it was supposed to be the otherway around?

Glad its not just me thinking this. Must be something in the install that screws everything up.

I performed the full install when I started the game. But every now and then it says 'installing' in the top corners, like when I opened up new license tests or the Vettel Challenge as I did recently.

I don't think the install works properly.

Ya when I had it installed it took way longer to load tracks and such. I took my 2J out on Laguna Seca last night for a few laps and the track loaded way faster.

Mine is running a lot smoother with out the install. Just wish it would stop asking me to install every time i turn my Ps3 on.

It's a hell of a lot faster that disc if you install to a solid state drive.

What do you mean, solid state drive? If you install it to a solid state drive it's even faster than the disc?

EDIT: Never mind, got you now. Excpet not everyone has the time or money to buy one.

I think there might be an option on the GT5 options, for files. If it's not there I have been deleting my game data but you lose your pics (unless you back them to the XMB) and all your tracks, and some suits are changes on B-spec drivers. You also have to re-do a lot of thumbnails.

And if you recreate a thumbnail for a car, it shows. Forgot to mention that auto-message settings are reset.

Its the way PD have encoded the files and how PS3 reads them.

In Eurogamers review they said it was the worst and most time consuming way of doing it!

Mine is also running better without install.
Only thing missing is thumbnails.

Press triangle on the car and create a thumbnail.

Surely this can't be the case? PD need to address this if it is an issue. It's got me thinking about deleting data just to speed things up - but it also makes me think about the extra wear/strain put on the BR drive.

Absolutely agree with the OP. Installing and running from the hard drive is a mess. I was at the point of having to do a reinstall almost every week to fix problems. Now I've been running from bluray for months with no issues. If only the 'please install' messages would just go away.

How do I go about getting mine off my hard drive without losing my stuff. My load times drive me nuts

I'd like to know that too, if anyone has any pointers. I'm wary of mucking about with it in case I wipe the whole game to date... I already made a mistake with a backup and lost a few months of progress!

Anyone know how to un-install (for Dummies)??

Surely there has to be an option in the file settings....

There is option to "Delete installed Files" in Options Menu under file management IIRC.
This will not delete your game data completely , just the preinstall files.

Replays and pictures will stay intact.

I've had the game remove those files to make room on my little PS3 (fat , 40GB)
And the game really seems to load/do everything faster , even connect to online servers.

So... doing that won't get rid of your cars, your race history, money, points etc??

Hmm.... GT5 has been getting on my rag recently with loading times and the likes, more so online than anything else. I done a fresh install only last week to try and fix things to no avail. Might try this out since it seemingly improves things. I'm struggling to believe it though

Only thing thats putting me off is having to create all them thumbnails again! Took a couple of hours to create thumbnails on 1000+ cars. don;t want to have to do it again :(

I'll await the next patch before I try this I think.

Yea it removes your DLC but you can go into account services and your download history is there and you can re-download it free of charge :)

I've redownloaded like 5 times but ok....

Anything it else it deletes?

Your thumbnails in your garage, which can all be recreated.

Apart from that there is nothing else you will notice.
