How about finally 900 degree steering animation?

While I agree they should improve the animation, I so badly wish they could implement an option to completely remove the arms and steering wheel, so for wheel users that have a proper setup, all they see is the dash and their own arms and wheel. I just hate the animation, even it is perfected in real time and everything, it's annoying.

I think that if they add cars, they will be in form of DLC. That's we have been asking for all this time, right?

Agree, it should be removable.

Another feature we need added is completely customizable HUD. Give me a tick box in the options next to each individual component and let me decide what I want on screen.

I wonder if they will premiumize all the open top standards (caterham etc) and allow us to race with the roof down on convertibles.

On a second note, turns out the problem with my PS3 is a HDD failure FFUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!

Comments by people who played F4 demo indicate that GT5 has still some(some not) things in physics made better.
Just to throw the Forza fans a bone, I'll have to say that the Forza 3 demo felt like F2. The game itself felt a little better. The F4 demo is supposed to be the E3 version from months ago, so I expect this one to feel like F3. Having said that, I don't expect much difference between Forza 3 and 4. If the "one button" drift kids couldn't do the same thing in Forza 4, I'm sure there would be a huge riot.

I should add that I'll have to drop GT5 for a while. I just can't play (or paint) in Forza 4, and Battlefield 3, and the games I bought but neglected because of GT5, and write fiction, and music, and paint, and whatever else life throws at me. But oh yes, even if there was no Spec II update, I'd be back.

They can fix the AI through a patch, have you played GT5P? The S Series had some seriously difficult races and the arcade mode had adjustable difficulty instead of just A,B, and C or whatever GT5 arcade is. Patch that in but keep some of the randomness of the GT5 AI and you will have a very good game.

Yeas thats maybe right! But think about the difficult races. Is it not always like this that you start on position 7 and try to get on first place. What you mean by difficult race is maybe that #1 car has +10 seconds advantage to your starting position and you try to get him in 3 laps. But I´ve never seen a race where you race head to head for 1-2 laps with the AI car.

👍

Very useful for people that like to race in cockpit view with hud off, but find it difficult because they can't see what gear they're in or clearly see the rev guage.
I've been wanting that too.

By the way Pops, I'm not holding the MS Wheel against Turn 10, but it is annoying that MS lacks so much class.

I hear that.. I used to have an MS wheel

Seriously though, I agree. Their licensing stiffness is utterly ridiculous and only hurts the consumer at the end of the day.

On that subject, plus, I have a few more points.

I would like to have the Fanatec, but even for a gubmint worker like me, $250 is a tidy sum I can't just spent willy nilly on goodies, and I have to be the bankroller for the family Christmas now that mom passed away. And I do want some games before that, like the Forza 3 Special Edition and BF3. Just game purchases for myself will likely be over $250, and I have music studio purchases to budget for, so the Fanatec will have to wait till next year sometime. I do hear that it's extremely good, and works fantastically on F4, so I'm probably going to bite the bullet on it.

As to GT5, one thing I've been meaning to discuss is the matter of turning off ABS completely. A few posters mentioned that doing this made the physics of the cars more realistic, at least offline. I can attest that there's some difference, and cars will spin out much easier, and not just from wheel lockup. I was always afraid to try this because I just wanted to race, and it's so blasted easy to lock the wheels without ABS set to at least 1.

But I finally tried it Friday, had some spare time so I played with it. If you go into the Brake Balance menu and lower the settings to around 2 front and back - on front engined cars anyway - the feel is subtly different, and you have to be more careful how you tackle turns. Oh, and put Sports Soft tires on your race cars! It's added a thrill to the game which wasn't there before, and I spent well over a dozen hours just in Arcade Mode chasing bots down Laguna Seca, and having the time of my life.

If you guys can't enjoy GT5 in some form or fashion as it is now pre-2.0, I'm not sure what Kaz can do for you other than buying you a real life car. :D

I'm in a similar position.. I still enjoy GT5 (well, TT and the odd bit of arcade), and if not for the imminent 2.0 upgrade, I'd probably sell the ps3 and dfgt to help fund a CSR.
I guess I'll hold off and see what happens.

It's not really a GT5 thing.. It's more of a PS3 thing. Most x-plat racers seem to be way better on the other console and I can't really justify keeping it for the sake of one game when I could get a better wheel and enjoy more titles on the xbox.
That, and the fact that I have a good group of FM3 racing buddies..

Of course, that's just my situation. If money wasn't an issue, or better yet, if there was a DFGT equivalent for Xbox, I'd happily keep both.

I find it strange that with this version being so close to release, no one knows what it contains.....

You're strange for not knowing that's business as usual. 👍

From a "business" standpoint, it'd be best if Kaz announced the content of Spec 2, but Kaz will be Kaz.

I know right? I hope Kaz puts a feature list online next week. THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME!

AMG! Im so stoked for this update. Almost a year down the line and I'm still hopping on this game.

even if we get 1 track or 1 car I will have a nerdgasm.

^ I know Kaz likes to do things differently to others  but when GT5 was months from release, we still had new tidbits of info coming all the time about tracks, cars, etc.

I don't get the emphasis on the steering animation, but maybe I'm not meant to. Anyway, the 900 degree animation was in GT4, and I think early versions of GT5 had it too. So it's really not a case of whether they can do it; clearly it was removed / not implemented for some reason. Like so many other things in the game...

Here's a 900 degree animation gameplay:

They only made it do what it does now (240 degrees?) because the 900 degree animation would glitch (or just work improperly). I know this to be true because I remember Kaz mentioned it. I can't remember where because it was so long ago.

That's cool 👍 but it doesn't address the core problems GT5 still has a year after release. Nobody is knocking GT5's realism--everyone is looking for either 1) gameplay fixes or 2) more content....

What always annoys me about the steering animation is the way it's so unbearably damped/smoothed, no car has even the slightest suggestion of kickback. It looks very artificial and combined with reduced movement it gives the impression of a car yawing unnaturally with little or no steering input and even less steering feel.

59 pages of discussion wow! Hopefully this update will live up to all the hype, I think it will ;)

To be entirely honest, I don't think the Spec II patch will bring tons of cars and tracks, I tend to believe it will bring revamps on physics ( perhaps equalling online and offline models ), corrections on shadows, lighting, some improvements on resource usage to make the game run smoother, more events, a handful of standards converted to the premium treatment and a few more small features which were asked for ( in-race saves, rally events and so on ).

That said, the DLC packs may have the really good stuff, like new cars and tracks. At least, this is what I'm hoping for. :D

I think it'd be weird without. I know many many people disagree, but without it, wouldn't there be an empty car during replays? Plus, I actually think it's a good thing and with being able to change suits so you can change glove/sleeve color, which is simply nice to have. Better than nothing.

Nobody knows what this update will include but I know it will be good (all the others have been) :D
I agree. Not all of them were, but the significant ones were really unexpected and added to the usability of certain things and replayablity, of course.

Is it just me or has the "alpha bending" (when the edges of the car get pixelated) been fixed to a great extent? Seems as though it looked terrible when GT5 first released, but now it isn't noticeable at times even when you're trying to look at it (as if you needed to try to see the pixelation early on after the release).

If it is just me, then at least, it doesn't look that bad to me anymore.

Thing is, Spec II for Prologue came out only 3-4 months after the game was released. It's going to be 11 months by the time we get Spec 2.

I'm a little confused. Spec II, Spec 2, or Spec 2.0.
I want to do it with the .0 but it takes so much longer.
