What the hell is the point of game saves during endurance races?

There's hardly any sense in endurance races as it is. In reality they are a test of fitness, stamina and concentration. In GT5 they are only a test of concentration.

With game saves during the race, even that skill is not needed!

It is totally pointless.

Exactly.....

You have to understand economics and opportunity costs also. In the time it takes to make content for GT5, what ELSE could PD be doing on future games instead?

Don't get me wrong though, I'm all for DLC, let me have it PD! :dopey:

As for endurance race saves no....But how about being able to team up with your B-Spec driver? So you do whatever number of Laps,Pit and the B-Spec driver takes over, then you put him in and continue. That way it's more realistic. If you must have a Save, make it only 2 per race.

That would have been good news.

That's fantastic news for the 5% of GT5 owners who still play the game, and for the other 95% it's too little too late to care. It's a shame PD doesn't understand that games are normally played for weeks or maybe for months, rather than years. You don't get to wait almost a year from release to start releasing DLC and have any meaningful number of people give a crap. GT doesn't exist in a vacuum, after all.

LOL
I thought ive seen it all.
:dunce:
pure comedy

Dude, this is a report-worthy post, I'd cool off - and edit it - if I were you... just a heads up.

Anyhow, as others have remarked - why am I usually fashionably late to the parties around here? - this is going to be something major in many ways. Spec II in Prologue increased the content and features tremendously, and I expect some big changes and additions. I suggest the easily excited and impressionable ignore my wish list. ;)

Spec II
  • Massive increase of A-Spec and B-Spec events.
  • XP system overhaul, perhaps even deleted.
  • Improved bot A.I.
  • Comprehensive stat tracking database, including records for each race.
  • Possible DLC in the update, including a track or two, a number of cars, optional wheels for Standards, and other things.
  • The Paint Shop will now have a range of paints for sale! Imagine that. :D
  • Standards to have a cockpit view (black interior) with basic dashboard.
  • Adjustable driver views.
  • Additional bodykits, including those for a number of Standard cars.
  • Massive increase in Race Mod car list.
  • A basic Livery Editor.
  • Improved damage.
  • Improved physics, most noticeably Rally physics.
  • Improved Dealerships, Used Car lots and tuning options.
  • The classic tuning adjustments from previous Gran Turismo games return, with additional features including tuning saves.
  • Save in pits in any race.
  • Event Generator, both off and online, including prizes.
  • Massive overhaul of the online system with numerous additional features, Race Series Designer and Event Generator, leaderboards, sharing and selling system, and other goodies.
  • Improved Photo Mode.
  • Improved Course Maker.
  • Drag racing and Touge.
  • More more MORE! :dopey:

DLC
  • Tracks from all previous Gran Turismos offered, and will incorporate in single player offline games with included patches.
  • New tracks to include Dubai, Brands Hatch, Spa, Hockenheim and Batthurst, as well as American courses. Tracks will be themed to provide racing in different leagues such as DTM and BTCC.
  • Car packs such as Standard to Premium updates, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and other supercars, race cars, classics. Car packs will be large, 20 or more.
  • DLC will either be free or affordable. I expect some freebies.
Whew... hyping myself a bit much, but... who cares! Whatever it will be will be pure chewing satisfaction. :dopey:

And for a quick edit, I wouldn't expect dozens of tracks and hundreds of cars real soon. Remember, 6 man-months per car, up to 2 man-years per Premium track, so I'd expect the Gran Turismo Standard tracks to be offered in any numbers first, with a new Premium track here and there. And Standards to be converted to Premiums at an apparent snail's pace.

This^.............LOL

Why every one want the endurance save/livery editore thing?we need many thing more useful fo this game like:
1-Realistic slipstream, specialy in the online mode.
2-Replay mode.
3-Racing flags
4-set saves
5-more real-life tracks(Spa,Silverstone....)
6-more car(FIA-GT1 cars please).

You've never been involved in team or league racing have you?

Or ever watched real world racing apparently...

Why do people always refer to manga boobs and such when talking about liveries?

There are so many incredible original and replica paintjobs out there that conveniently get ignored in order to support a poor argument in favour of one game.

I doubt many have or do. When I play Forza most of the liveries I see are replicas or racing league ones. Why are people so close minded. Also there is a report button for anyone going overboard that works rather well.

It would only give GT a little life, compared to the boring looks of the cars. Or like somebody said eariler, the grid of 8 cars with the same livery. Really?

That alone might...make me take another look at GT5. Might...

How about just letting people play how they want? Make an achievement for those who dont save at all? We have lives.

This isn't entirely true - casual gamers, absolutely, they'll move on when the next racing game is out. Heck, by this point they've probably moved on to Shift 2, then Dirt 3, and are now sitting into F1 2011 or waiting for the next yearly NFS. But GT fans? Nope, they play their games for years, as evidenced by our still-healthy GT4 racing community, or the huge amount of GT5 leagues we have going too, and it's 2 months away from a year now.

I'm disappointed at how late this announcement has come too, but at least it did come. I see it as a way of reminding fans who are starting to look elsewhere that GT still has life in it. I know I'm planning on finding a new definition for "conflicted", as I'm going to be a week into FM4 when this comes out, and if those track logos uploaded to the B-Spec site all those months ago are any indication as to what Spec 2.0 might hold, I know I'm going to want to revisit some old favourites...

I don't think all 25 tracks will be free, some may be paid DLC £3.99 for the whole lot.

Ariel Atom V8 and Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst. I hope for those and Stelvio and Transfagaras.

I've been playing Shift 2 a lot lately and I wish GT5 had some of the Autolog features, competing against your friends without always having to be online at the same time is making me play Shift 2 a lot more than I should be ;)

By the way, my remark about saving "records for each race" is about a feature that was in GT2. There was a record lap retained for each race displayed under the clock for total time and best lap. You could beat and set them yourself, either in a race or time attack.

Wasnt it in GT1?

Yes, it was GT1, GT2 had something else.

Gran Turismo 1
In GT1 you always had the best time ("Fastest Lap") for particular track displayed in HUD - no matter in which mode it was done - and after you have beaten it there was a sweet "NEW RECORD" sign at the end of the race. Also, you always had a "Total Record" which was displaying a best overall race time for that particular venue.

Also, GT1 had the option to scroll through all laptimes on post-race screen, up to 99 laps (max that game allowed).

And GT1 also had an option to watch a 99 lap race replay, which no later games had.

Gran Turismo 2
GT2 had unique HUD element of "max speed" for particular venue you've been racing displayed right under the Best Lap, but it also had a "Record" result with best overall laptime for particular track and corresponding "max speed".

GT2 also had the best imaginable Time Trial options ever in the history of the series, with 3 types of ghosts, deep system of tracking laptimes through sectors and probably the best post-race analysis tool that was abandoned for GT3 and replaced with more simple Logger.

Ah, good old times :)

i'd love if GT5 gets a physics tweak to get even more realism out of GT5 and one big update should be Tyre and Fuel consumption in practise modes!!! make GT5 physics as 1! not 3 different physic types!

I would most definitely wet myself if it was announced that the big Spec II update included the acquisition of licensing rights to Porsche cars. It'd be amazing to be able to climb behind the wheel of a 997 GT3 RSR with the Flying Lizard livery. But this, I'm almost certain, will NEVER happen.

I am sure GT will get Porsche soon but maybe not for GT5 after all since GT5 was started a few years back Porsche as been added the the VW group empire we have VW & Audi brands in GT5 so at last EA Games hold on Porsche maybe coming to a end.

Racing round Nürburgring in a 917 or a Lemans in a 962 or GT1 would be a nice dream come true, also its would a good more for Porsche to be in GT series now that most of their rivals are in game like Lambo ho also owned by VW and Farrari.

But I think this is more for GT6 knowing how long it takes to make one car.

With so many classic marks out there from the old days like Matra or the Renault Turbo Lm cars.

I like the in game classic Lm,s we have in the prem cars but more would be nice.👍

I sure hope the Spec II will be worth it, but seeing as what it did to prologue, I don't think there's any reason to worry, like most people said, heck it's free, so it's always welcome!

I only hope they update the game so it's much more consistent in it's appearence and workings, y'know, update the Standards, retouch some of the less prettier tracks, and work out the track editor.

The old GT tracks are awesome, but they can leave those for DLC if they want to. I'd just wish the game was more consistent. Like IGN said, it's a 10/10 simulator in a 5/10 game. Now go make that a 10/10 game and everyone's happy!:dunce:

completely agree. The pure selfishness of the anti enduro save people astounds me. Choice and the right to choose are things that make life so much better. Why should choice be denied in the gaming world?

Same principles apply to liveries.
I guess some people just want to insist on how others should play the game.

That would be ideal. The problem I see arising from having Tire Temperature/Wear and Fuel Consumption in Practice/TT mode is fairness. People who have less time to spend doing laps until the fuel is fairly depleted and the weight of the car has dropped, will not be as competitive against those with more time (or found a way to cheat).

Personally, I find the difference in GT5 physics between the two modes- Practice and Race- to be quite subtle. In fact, the feel of driving cars in Practice mode is very close to that of racing mode when both the tire temperature and fuel load are at their most ideal condition. Of course, I'm comparing the offline physics of both modes. I know that online especially when there are more cars/players on the track, the physics can feel drastically different.

But that could be a threading (and perhaps even netcode) issue which I've experienced in almost every console sim. SHIFT for example exhibit the same problem when you race against more AI cars- in fact there are 15 types of physics since in that game you are able to select the number of AI car you can race against- 1 to 15 cars. Racing against 1 AI car feels completely different from 2 which feels quite different from 3 and so forth (not to mention that SHIFT on the PS3 also suffers from real time slow down when more AI cars are on the screen- meaning when you race against 1 AI you lap time will be much faster than if you were to race, for example, against 10 even if you were to run an equally performed lap).

I would like that records(offline) for best lap times would only be saved for the best time/car. This would eventually lead to meaningful lap time lists and comparison between cars could be made. Now lap time lists get full of times of same fast cars .

So does this mean that this will be the final big update, and then GT5 will be to where they want it, so after October they will be working on GT6.

If so Guesing the last update and DLC will include:

Alot more standard cars will be premium, more cars & tracks with Endurance saves, whilst getting rid of any little bugs there are.

Cant really see them doing anymore to be honest, although they might sort out the blotchy shadows (we can dream)

As far as I see it Gt5 is wat Gt1 and Gt3 was. It was always the sequel GTs to that console where PD really showed their magic. (not saying GT5 is Cr*p, I just see it as the begining to wat GT6 will be)

So come on PD get GT6 on the way :sly:

I'd love to see a figure of total people who bought GT5 and still play it, say once a week. I know sales figures are always brought up in most Pro-GT arguments, but near on a year after release, I think they are nearly irrelevant. I'd almost be willing to bet that over 50% of people who bought the game, no longer play with any regularity

I see what you mean there...
I play every single day if I can, at least for 20 mins :L

The pure selfishness of the anti enduro save people astounds me.

I am one of those who would not be bothered if in race saves came in the next update or not.

If it's an optional thing then nobody can complain they're being forced to play in a certain way. What I don't want is auto-in-race saves because that then forces me to play in a way I don't what to.

For what GT is is a canvas and paints that DP gave us to make our own way of playing. Nobody should be telling anyone else there is a right or wrong way to play.

There will be people that drop GT just like any other game. The thing is with GT that it has a fan base of people that will keep playing despite flaws and set backs because they are GT people.

Most people want to race online. So if there is to be DLC tracks, 1 of 2 things need to happen:

1. It's free so everyone can race everyone.

2. If paid DLC tracks, you can only invite friends or others that also have paid for the track.

Kazunori Yamauchi has stated very clearly that option 2 will never happen, because it totally crashes with PDs vision for the GT series.

I am sure he has also stated he doesn't believe in DLC but here we are.
