So there's no way anyone will be able to predict what comes up next.

Except they can.

Take a look at your used car list right now on your gamesave and take note of the day number. Backup your save, wipe it and start again. Skip through the licences until you reach the same day number and take a look at your used car list. It's identical - cars, colours, prices, mileages.

Better still, your car list on any game day will match, for any group of six consecutive cars, the master car list TornadoAlley is working on.

The only variable involved is where you start. We could figure that out too, but I suspect it'd be wholly pointless to do so compared to "Download this list and find the list of thirty cars that matches your current one; every day from then on in your game is the same as every day from then on in the list".

The only unknown right now is where the list "finishes". We have little reason to suspect that it doesn't cycle. It's what all previous games with used car lists have done and the alternative - that someone at PD has sat down and compiled a set list of cars to infinity - is unwieldy and daft, though may explain the long development time...

While I agree about the initial seed why then do we have all of the users so far on this forum finding where they match up with our "master" list even though no one (to my knowledge) has started with the same initial seed?

Once a user matches up to the master list EVERY car from then on is the same for them.

That.

Once a user matches up to the master list EVERY car from then on is the same for them.
Is this the case, though? I haven't read every post in this thread but I thought this was only true for an individual account (in which case the PSN ID is probably the seed) and not for different users? Of course, I'm only guessing...

But that is within one account. So my list might always be the same (in which case it means the PSN user ID will be the seed) but that doesn't necessarily mean it will the same list for your account. If true, this means that what comes up in someone else's list is of no help in predicting what might come up in your list.

No, no and no

My sequence is the same as Famine/Fastas/Several others. Since you are developer, you have basic math skills, right? If car order is random, calculate odds for 6000+ entries to appear in the same order for X number of people when there are 809 different cars.

Starting point is random or more correctly seeded, but the car order after that is NOT. There might be two lists as there are sequences that have not overlapped yet

But that is within one account.

No it isn't.

If you start the game on a different account on the same PS3, you get the same start point. Every account on one PS3 has the same start point.

If you start the game on the same account on a different PS3, you get a different start point. If I take my 316-day gamesave downstairs to the other PS3 I get a different list of 30 cars (remember, gamesaves are account locked, so I cannot open it unless I have the same account on that console) than on the upstairs one, because the downstairs one started 400 days earlier in the master list than the upstairs one.

That notwithstanding, if it was a random or psuedorandom list there would be no way for someone to find their exact list of 30 cars - with exact prices, mileage, colours - on TornadoAlley's master list and there'd be no way that their next 6 cars would be the next 6 cars on the master list and so on for every day and every group of 6 cars.

And yet it is the case that everyone, barring gaps that have not yet been filled in, can find their exact list of 30 cars - with exact prices, mileage, colours - on TornadoAlley's master list and every subsequent day contains the exact list of 6 cars.

There is no randomness beyond the start point. After that the list is predefined.

I'd just like to say thank you for all the hard work, the list works spot on for me. The early lists were, well, a little head scratching, but you guys have it down to a science now.

Just curious, I haven't gone down the list too long or looked in the thread too hard, but does the entire list repeat itself after a set number of days like GT4?

Hopefully - if it doesn't, then someone at PD had a really cack job to make a predefined, infinitely long list - though no-one's found an "end" yet.

If that is the case then I am wrong and I apologise for not having read the thread properly. It does surprise me that PD would have used the same pseudo-random sequence for everyone, but with different starting points, but apparently they have going on your findings. You guys are correct.

Though there is one thing you might want to consider - are the sequences of the same cars contiguous or are they broken into blocks?

The cars arrive in blocks of six - we call them hextets because... well, we can. Hextet order is immutable - the six cars will always appear one after the other - but the hextets themselves aren't necessarily preserved. The start point may be transposed so that a user gets half of a preceding hextet and half of a following hextet.

So whereas I might get:
Spearthrust Ultrapants '04 .... Crusty Nigel '73
Vomit Wondercheese '99 ...... Monster Ringworm '95
Baffling Trouseritch STD '06 .. Slyly Touching '96

as a hextet, another user may get:
Obscene Tickling '77 ........... Astounding Cockerel '00
Spearthrust Ultrapants '04 .... Crusty Nigel '73
Vomit Wondercheese '99 ...... Monster Ringworm '95

for one hextet and:
Baffling Trouseritch STD '06 .. Slyly Touching '96
Nicely Plastered '47 ............. Crippling Manchunder '95
Worzel Gummidge '88 ........... Impressive Pastasauce RAGU '00

as the next. The order of the hextet is preserved, although the hextet itself isn't.

So I had a random thought as I was drifting off to sleep last night (it could have been the cough medicine).

Has anyone completely deleted their game install (not the save game file) from their PS3 and then reinstalled GT5 to see what happens with the UCD. The reason I ask is that DanDiplo got me thinking that using the exact time that you do your install would be one way to generate different starting points in the list.

I don't have time to try it right now but if I get a chance I might check my theory.

I have, yes (I wanted to remove the v1.05 update for comparison purposes and deleting the whole schmear seemed the simplest way). It didn't change it.

So we know it's PS3 specific, but not linked to your PSN or date/time of game data install. We also know that despite it being a massively huge list, somehow a fair number of the people making it into this thread make it into a group of people that bunch around similiar start point, e.g. crazedmodder or Fastas.

Where can I get those cars? Are they unannounced special cars from a cheat code or something? :sly:

Nice job on the list.

I don't think I'd want a Baffling Trouseritch STD...

I noticed a very strange thing when trying to figure out where I am going at the list...

In the list day 2131 matches with some of my cars - namely the Toyota GT-One, Scion xA and the Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.R. But here comes the strange thing - the rest 3 of the cars in the UCD are on day 2130, namely the Lotus Elise Type 72, the Honda BEAT Version Z and the Mitsu Lancer Evolution VI GSR. Somebody explain this to me :S Or am I just understanding it wrong? The list goes like this in the UCD:

GT-One Race Car..............Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.R.
Lancer Evolution V1 GSR...Elise Type 72
xA.....................................Beat Version Z

@Zabidenu: Your list has been transposed by 3.

So this means that for example I always have a half of day 4300 and a half of 4301, selected by random? Sorry but I'm not the best at math lol

Edit - I understand it now, thanks for explaining!

It isn't by random. There is a set order to the cars and in your case using the master list in its current form you will always have 3 cars from one day and 3 from the next.

Anywhere you see Fastas as the contributor the order of the cars is unknown. All we know is what day each car appears for him. That is why it looks random to you. We are working on getting the order ironed out so that it makes more sense.

I dont think people in here have plans on giving up, and we don't know when the cycle resets... yet.

How do I go about figuring out what day I am on according to the list. I am very confused.

Should I just find a car that is in my dealership then match it with a car that is on the list.

Also I am on day 600 (around there) so the list isn't up to there yet, or is there another thing I am missing?

Quit the game, go to the save icon three steps up from the game icon and go in it. When the save is highlighted it tells you the day you are on and what your current car is.

Yes but my UCD cycle starts on a different day then the one in the list how can I match them up.

And The list goes up to day 130 I am on day 600

Does that mean I am ahead of the list or no.

Like I was thinking maybe day 600 equals a lower day when it resets.

Use the compiled list in TornadoAlley's signature, not Famine's list in the OP.

You might still find that your list is in one of the blank spots on the compiled list, but if that's the case then you can provide useful info to help out :)

Look at the compiled list (see link in my sig). That has much more info in it. I recommend downloading it as an excel file and then you can do whatever filtering/sorting you want.

Oh ok thanks

I haven't been able to locate where I am on the compiled UCD database so I have started tracking my UCD. I'm hoping it will fill one of the voids in the database. I only have about 10 days so far as I just started last night, but I will post my list when I find an intersection. Thanks for getting this rolling guys. Great work figuring this out so far.

Motul Piwork shows up again Day 1571....

Just a thought....this sequence may not be a loop at all, but one that rises and falls like a thermometer...get to the top then reverse the order downward...
