I only play GT5 (so far), but I'm really interested in the pro's and con's of both games.
Anyone here plays them both and can tell me something about it?

Cheers!

TDU2 looks fun im gonna buy it apparantly its buggy and feels like Mario Kart but better so its probs like Just Cause 2.

TDU 2 Is NOWHERE near as good as the first, the voice acting, storyline and some gameplay elements are ruddy horrible. Seriously, GT5 is far far far better. Get the first TDU if you don't have it.

I play both and there is no comparison. Both games have different physics, one you drive on track and fine tune your cars(GT5) and the other you drive on normal roads(TDU2)

TDU2 is something different to play when you get tired of fine tuning and the perfect driving experience....It's an Arcade game more to the point.

TDU2 is kinda fun, if mostly just for the open world concept. Certainly not approaching a driving sim, but it's nice to drive around and explore and enjoy the view, and customize your character.

If you look at the bad voice acting as kitschy or campy then it's Not as annoying.

I agree with what most of the people here are saying. TDU is a huge open world where you can drive around in tropic landscape in okey - looking cars, but with unrealistic driving physics. I got bored of the game in 5 days, then again, i played alot those 5 days. U spend alot of time getting from one place to another and u get tired of it after a while. The online bit in the game is rediculously poor and not at all what people were expecting. The racing part in the game where u race against other AI's is nothing special. It reminds me of what it was like racing in GTA IV.

Imho the game is not worth the money and provides little or no pleasure, it is only a time thief. I'm not happy about the way GT5 turned out either, but it is much better. GT5 isn't just a game, it's a hobby for many.

Read a few reviews online or watch them at youtube. I bet the all say the same

should this even be discussed come on people we really need to grow off the competition of racing games but gt5 looks like the big guy in this picture and tdu2 their cars looks like my 10 year old cousins drew those

That sum it up pretty much for me. Physics are horrible, but there's some fun mountain roads. All cars have interior tho and you can look at them in your home garage. You can also take roof off for convertible and take windows down. It has some nice feature but honestly it's not worth buying.

TDU series is an insult to the original Test Drive game, which came out nearly 25 years ago. Shift 2, and Dirt 3 will be a welcomed break from GT5 for me.

I played both, and I prefer TDU2. That said, I must add I don't play online, thus I am interested in a substantial single player mode. TDU2 offers me a nice range of cars, good graphics and sound, two massive and totally open worlds to explore and a nice range of events to take part in whenever I want to. For me, it was a welcome break from all the limits GT5 set me.

If you love realistic simulators, TDU2 is not for you. If you love driving around in an almost limitless world with real traffic and a nice event now and then, TDU2 might appeal to you.

You can't even compare the two, really. They're different genre's.

👍 Totally agree

I'm not asking for a comparison...I just want to know the Pros and the Cons from both games. For example:

GT5 Pros:
-Drives somewhat realistic
-Many cars
-Nice details
-Photomode

GT5 Cons:
-Grinding
-Boring B-spec
-Slow loading times

TDU2 Pros:
-Open world
-All cars have dashboard cam

TDU2 Cons:
-Drives more arcade-like (not always bad btw)
-Bad physics

etc etc

Thanks for the replies all!

Sounds cool! I'm not an sim-addict and can enjoy a nice and easy drive.
Is it also possible to go offroad in TDU? E.g. nagging the people on the beach a little.

More like GT5 vs NFS shift 2, now thats more likely to be a good one

GT5 is great but the guys @ mad studio got me curious about this new NFS shift 2 title, this is the first game Ive gotten excited about since the release of gt5

If you're looking for a really fun, more arcade style racer to take a break from GT5, I highly recommend the new NFS Hot Pursuit. Haven't had that much fun just driving around like a maniac playing cat and mouse in a long time. Awesome graphics and soundtrack, too.

You can literally go anywhere. I was baffled by this at first. Given you have an offroad-capable vehicle (like many in the game are; the not-so-offroad-capable will still go offroad, but will be limited in top speed and rough terrain abilities), you can go cross-country all day if you like, given there are no insuperable obstacles like fences, houses, walls in general or hills so steep you simply can't find grip. You can even drive into the water, you will simply respawn on the road where you left it. It is a completely free world. There are no people running around though, you only meet other cars. Those will obey the traffic laws, you can crash into them and they'll stop and switch on the hazards. I suppose they left out humans to prevent a bloodshed.

I also liked the photo locations you're challenged to find as well as the hidden wrecks you can find with a metal detector when you are near them. Having driven all the roads on the islands also gives you points towards the exploration score, one of four areas you can gather points in. I switched off the online portion and completely avoid the social score (buying clothes, getting hairstyles, having plastic surgery, etc.), and even then the single player experience is quite massive.

Weather and day/nighttime is quite nicely done, too. At times, I simply enjoy a cruise around Ibiza in the sunshine, I turn on the inbuild radio and give my car the berries.

This thread is perfectly fine. Noone says that these games are much alike. But if someone knows GT5 quite well, has no clue about TDU2 but might like to purchase the latter, he would like to know about differences and similarities, and generally how people who played both games would describe them. What's wrong with that?

Exactly!

+1

Love nfs hp. It's a blast! Best feature is being able to compete against your friends even while offline.

How can they be different genres?
GT5 - Racing/Driving
TDU2 - Racing/Driving

The difference is that one is a simulator, the other arcade game. But they are both racing/driving games!
