The lighting in GT6 is terrible. I could stop there and you'd likely agree but I'll elaborate a bit.

When viewing cars at the dealership the light comes from the sides. The result is that everything darker than white becomes a black blob, viewing the Reventon is hopeless unless you select the gallery view.

This is probably an elaborate way of insulting the user, because if the user was important he'd be allowed to cast some light over the game. But it seems PD want to keep their users in the dark.
Having some light being cast from the front would not only be useful in seeing the cars, it would be realistic as some players will keep light sources in their dwellings.

Then there are the headlights of the cars. When I'm driving on Nürburgring I can see the ground in front of me. I simply cannot do that with the same car on Ascari or Willow Springs. And with the meteorological conditions usually allowing clear skies and a blanket of stars filling the sky you could expect the track not to be pitch black as the moon would illuminate it quite a bit. Still, I would at least expect the headlights to work as well on Willow Springs as on the Nürburgring.

Wanting to spend your last cr on this car or an Revention, you will only look at it in the gallery view. I guess theres a reason we have this gallery view.. You cant neither see all the details of the car without going into gallery view..

The reason you dont have much ''clear view'' on Willow Springs as on the 'Ring, would be becouse of the width of the track.. On the 'Ring you think you can see more but its really just the widht of the track wich means it seems like youre uplightning more... Its really much the same. I think the lightning is great but the beamlight coult be a bit stronger and you should be able to see a bit more reflection of cars in front of you when you got your beam on them, theres a small amount of reflection but not enough. Also, the beamlight and the regulare driving lights should be used at the same time when beaming, right? Thats how my car works, I cant beam without the headlights beeing used and they will all light at the same time when used! So yeah, theyre still a bit off, but you cant say they did a good job on this!

Your first point is flawed in two ways:
1. Why would you have a rotating car if it wasn't for viewing?
2. So I'm meant to inspect the car with gallery view, what about standard cars?

It would be interesting to hear your theory of why they've put a picture of the car there if it's not to allow the user to see it.

On the ring I can see my headlights casting light on the track.
On willow springs I only light up the track edges and peripheral objects like walls.

Lighting is pretty impressive in this game.

Willow spring and ascarii are more open and darker than spa, nurburgring. That's the way it is.

Lighting is one of the things that are much better (along with most of the shadows, except the funky ones that flicker) in GT6 than in GT5. It's clearly an improvement over the last game.

The main graphical issues in GT6 are weak or non existent anti-aliasing, low resolution world textures, especially trees [not the (premium) car textures, those look great] and inconsistent frame rates per second (60 fps).

All of these I'm sure will be addressed in GT7 on the PS4, the PS3 can't do much more than this, but at least some performance optimizations, maybe we will get on future patches still.

An open area such as Ascari or Willow Springs will be lighter at night than a forest such as Nürburg

Here's something else they missed when displaying the cars in the paint shop:

The car does not rotate so you cannot tell what the paint will look like as it moves.
GT5 had a tiny rotating model car, yes it was microscopic but it had some flat areas and some knobly ones so you could see what the paint would look like.

The next problem is that the car is displayed in a completly white room.
Unless you are painting your car matte this matters. In the white room the reflections look completely different from what they will when on the track.

It has a lot to do with the fact that there's nothing for the light to reflect off! Have you ever driven in an open area without trees or objects, headlight don't seem like they work BUT they will if they have something to reflect off of.

Have you never tried pressing R1 or L1? Those are the buttons to rotate/change the view of the display car. Works very well, might I add, it shows different glares and shadows with each view!

Yeah, L1 and R1 are objects for my further annoyance. Firstly, they currently don't do anything. Secondly, when they used to work they jumped to another angle which doesn't show the transient behaviour of the paint job.

If I'm supposed to rotate the car manually then let me do it without the 8 steps.
This would remove the roof view, so better yet, let me rotate the car freely with the right stick.
