Hi all. Before anyone starts there cr*p about this being a wishlist, it is not.

Sorry to be so blunt but I get this all the time when all I am suggesting is ideas to make the consumers of GT Series happy with new content brought to another level.

This is simply an idea which I think PD should consider as a mode, as I believe many members of the community would like this. I have no knowledge of game developing so do not know if these ideas would be plausible.

Now in GT5 we currently have A-spec, Bspec and the on-line lobbies.

My proposal would be to add a new game mode which is totally different from any other on-line experiences suggesting a name of "GT WORLD™ "

This would incorporate technology from the PlayStation Home where there would be your own personal character representing yourself in the real world.

Now there would be say free roam one big map with many different shops for each country. "GT WORLD ITALY" "GT WORLD UK".

Doing this will allow you to be free and do your own thing. But because this is based on real life there are laws enforced so you cannot speed go through red lights etc.

Your friends can also roam this world. and you can get out your cars with your personal character. Oh hey there's Jim ill get out and talk to him just like in PlayStation home. Need an after market exhaust then lets head down to GT WORLD JAPAN and get some parts for my Nissan GTR.

Need tuning done to your car lets head down to GT WORLD MECHANIC.

Want to test your cars power. Lets go to GT WORLD DYNO where you can drive in onto a dyno and have it tested.

I believe this would open up a new window of opportunity and a whole different experience to show people you do not have to just race all the time. You can relax and talk to the people you know or socialise and make new friends. Learn more about being safe out there when your driving in the real world.

I believe sometime ago not sure when but PD were talking about something like this not sure where the thread is but this to me I think is a brilliant idea. It would keep me very busy for a long time and I am sure it would also for the rest of yourself's.

Thanks for reading. Would not mind some feedback and any additions to this great idea.

Some quick feed back for you, why do you have this in the GT5 Q&A? You're not asking a question but rather making a decleration of what your ideal version of GT should be. Also most would still consider this a wishlist.

Not to be a jerk, but maybe the reason why people give you "cr*p" is because you are making a wish thread, but you don't realize or believe so. Perhaps you just want to be heard and noticed as a new user. I say look at the other threds learn from how the senior members make them and thus make your own that is with in the AUP and doesn't get locked.

Just so you know, pretty much all GT6 threads have been locked in the past.

There was supposed to be a question at the start my bad. im not familiar with this site yet. Still getting to know it. Any way i can move the thread

Kaz wanted to implement a free roam. It would be hard to do.

....but it's already been done, a few times. It's called TDU2 :-/

When I play a racing game, it's because I want to race.

If I want to follow traffic laws, I'll go outside, get in my car, and drive around.

It's cool, at least you're better than other new users. They'd usually just start attacking post like I and R1600 made and get mad. We're here to help you so you don't have to worry about doing the wrong thing. Glad to help by the way.

My main concern would be that I want PD staff spending as much time as possible working on physics engines, graphics/car designs racing gameplay. The enormous manpower required to develop a free-roam mode like you described would be MUCH better suited doing other things in game production. God knows they already took 6 years making GT5; please don't slow them down anymore!

I think a limited free roam would be a better solution. You know one where you can test the drive a car before buying it for a limited amount of area.

So, basically you want Test Drive Unlimited with more stuff, better graphics and GT physics.

And yep, that's a wishlist.

I must say though, that's one of the few games behind GT on the sound front.

I agree but disagree at the same time. I would love to see this incorporated into the next Gran Turismo game but I don't want this to have any relation to Playstation Home. Also, I don't think this "world" should be big if it comes with the game when it comes out. I expect it to be small. It would make sense to see additions to the "world" as DLC for however much PD decides to set it as because it would just take longer for the game to come out.

Having your PS3 run GT6 would be hard as it is but making it run both GT6 and PSN Home at the same time would surely make it slow as heck. And besides, Home is already slow when it comes to everything about it. From the five minute long loading screens to the 0.05mph running speed.

Maybe when the PS4 comes out and a when an updated PSN Home is released that's faster, PD can start thinking about this idea as a whole.

I think this is abit silly to be honest. The idea of GT is to make a racing game as close to the real thing as possible. This is adding a new and in my opinion unimportant part of a game which could make the actual racing experience not as good. In GT4 they had a simpler version of this. You need to look at what the GT series is about and suggest idea's like more tracks or more car brands like Konieggsegg (excuse the spelling).

The over exaggerated photo mode doesn't count for you then I suppose? That has as much to do with racing as free roam driving. Not that I agree with the OP but at the same time you don't make a strong point. Also how about a from the ground up rebuild of the physics model that is more real world. Why ask for more tracks and cars first when they'll just be on a platform that isn't all that realistic. I rather see tired deformation and other key tire issues hit at first along with other parts of the physics engine before we add more content.

Also after the physics engine what about more parts? The parts list right now isn't that realistic and probably one of the more smaller when compared to past GT games.

All I am trying to get across is that the idea of the GT series is to drive in cars that you would dream to own (or drive your own car) and to race on tracks that you want to visit so bad. This is just adding a "distraction" to what the games are about. If your the kind of racer who likes to drive on open roads and visit actual car shops, TDU2 is the game you are seeking.

I understand that, but you seem to have the thought that GT5 is a game that doesn't have so called useless devices that are similar to free roam, however it does. (That's how your post come off) The game doesn't do the best job of what it is about to begin with and that is why I'm saying they should work on that. I understand where you are coming from and acknowledged that in my previous post to you but I am also showing you the flaw in that thought when you use GT5 as the model.

You seem to be saying that either GT5 sucks or it is getting out done by other games. You have to remember that it is the best game in it's class. FORZA 4 may have a few more of the updated cars but they are also one game behind.

This "free roam" option is wuite pointless. Who is going to spend alot of time in there? When I go to buy a car I don't want to get in a car and drive there! I want to select the manufacturer, pick my car and get in it then drive it. You seem to think that GT could be so much more than just what it is. In actual fact this series has been so successful due to it's simplicity.

It is a racing simulator. The idea being to make the enjoyment of racing to those who love the sport to get as close to being a race car driver as possible. Making the driving physics, sounds, the force feedback from the wheels, all the bumps, grooves and cracks in the tracks surfaces is more important than a free roam game mode. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

By that logic GT should have been at the fore front with sounds, physics model, equal diversity in manufactures, cockpits, online capabilities and so on. So what if they're one game behind they are able to rival GT and that isn't even talking about PC sims that are true sims which are even used by actual racing teams. I'm not saying GT sucks I'm simply saying which you seem to not understand is. Free roam may not be racing to you but neither is the photo mode that GT uses, the license test are no longer a factor for racing and thus we have two big area of GT life that could be taken out for actual racing. What I'm saying is GT isn't the pinnacle for full racing only they do add things to their games to add to the experience. I don't see how free roam (at least limited) would detriment the game.

Since you’re new, a good way to get a thread in the GT selection shut down is by making it FM4 vs. GT5. Don't do that because the OP isn't making this thread about that. The users posting shouldn't do it either there is a thread for that already if you want to proclaim the dogma of GT5 better than FM4.

Same arguments could have been made about the Photo mode and were before GT5 came out but it has a massive following. Also since you're new I'll let you in on a secret, this isn't the first or last time this topic will be seen. There are many that want free roam and thus will use it. Just because you don't or won’t use it has little weight to the argument at hand.

It is both a driving and racing simcade not full on sim that is a marketing tool PD uses. (minus the simcade part)

No one is saying that free roam is more important obviously you didn't read the whole post that you are quoting from me. If you did you would have noticed that I said the Physics are highly important along with bigger tunning selections.

I wont be using free roam unless it was to just test drive a car really quick that had to be bought for certain races. Sometimes I go out and get a car that I thought was going to be quick but isn't and thus find out later that another car in the same price range as well as regulations was a better choice. A realistic test drive option would have helped this.

Sidenote: I tend to use stock cars in offline races to make it more balanced and add difficulty, hence why a viable test before purchase option would be nice. Especially in the early stages when you start the game.

I think you should check the amount of people who have voted on the poll. If it is reall important people would have voted for it. I DID read your full post and just because you will use it you have little weight on the argument aswell. Do you seriously think PD are going to go "oh look instead of making this game all about the racing we are going to add in a little side feature where you can drive on the streets and get pulled over for doing things against the law".

There are games for that! need for speed and TDU2 are two primary examples! A racing simulator is about racing not just going for a Sunday drive which this is. What happens at the start when all you have is a kart? If this would be genuine you wouldn't be able to go buy a car because you only have a kart. This is not going to happen.

If you read the post clearly I did not say I want this feature to be added in so badly. It was an idea which I wanted feedback from other people. What's the point in having a forum when you cannot voice your opinion? And also if you look on the case of the GT5 it says "The real driving simulator". I was just trying to fit in with the community and post something different from the usual DLC wishlist's and get everyone together to talk about this and see what they think.

Sorry don't mean to sound like a total douche bag but if you don't like the post then you shouldn't have looked at it.

You have some flawed logic, the poll for this one thread doesn't mean anything, I've commented on this thread but didn't care to vote. So that goes to show that just because people don't vote doesn't mean they don't have a say or opinion on the matter. The poll here is just to humor the thread if you want to be serious go look at the feedback for this topic. I mean less then ten people out of all the thousands on GTplanet and that's not counting the million who play the game; so out of less then ten you are going to base that little fraction and say that proves people dont want it. That's really grasping for straws. Also I never said I would use a free roam system, I said I'd use a test drive system in place of the demo system that we have. Which would run on a track of your choice or a simple test strip. That's hardly free roam. Also you obviously don't get what I've been trying to say. If GT5 was a full on race game then we wouldn't have a photomode and other small pieces. The point is GT is a car/driving and racing game I'm not asking for a free roam just saying that you think GT5 is some cutting edge game is going a bit too far and once again taking it to some dogmatic level.

Okay cool story bro. Just because those games do it doesn't mean the op cant want GT to do it as well. Maybe the OP really loves GT and would like to see that feature added to their favorite car game. Is that request less deserving of what you want? IF so who are you to make that choice? Don't talk to me about racing sims I've played them since the early 90s or what then was considered a sim. Also you don't start out with a kart in any GT game so that defeats that hypothetical you pose. Besides the fact that it is out of place with the rest of your argument and doesn't make too much sense.

I play GTA for the features listed. GT5 doesn't need this, imo. If i wanted those features, I'd go back to Drivers Ed.

I play GT5 to race, not to goof off or practice following traffic laws. Otherwise, I'd just go out and drive on public roads.

When I play a racing game, it's because I want to race.

+1

No issue if Polyphony Digital wants to bring out this kind of concept, but why link it to GT6? Let it die or be a success on itself, they can still recuperate GT5 technology if they want to.

How about in GT6 when you go to play GT Life mode, you're in online or offline free roam in the world of gran turismo. Crusing around the streets, driving to dealerships to buys cars, visiting GT Auto to tune up your cars or color them or adding bodykits and wheels on them, drifting through windy roads, checking out the event stations to participate races, registering in license tests. Remember the interfaces from GT1, GT2, GT3, and GT4? Those kind of interfaces but you're driving in the roads of it instead. :sly:

But then again, how will it work? Because there are laws of the road and rules of it, aswell as traffic if there will be any. Why not something like modnation racers modspot or, GRRRR. :banghead: I'm not even sure anymore but there that's my favorite I want to atleast see in GT6, hope you all like it. :grumpy:

EDIT: But then again, Gran Turismo is a racing game after all...

Didn't GT3 and GT4 have a practice area though with cones and what not that wasn't really anything but like auto cross sort of roam. What's wrong with those type of practice rooms, they're like a limited free roam I guess. I agree though for GT to construct a city and have us drive in it would be a bit of a waste.

The focus for GT6 should be:

1. Revamped physics. (Not bad now, but there's always room for improvement.)

2. Revamped parts section. (Ex.- Adding an ECU upgrade to my '54 Vette. Yeah, that's realistic. Upgrading the carburetor actually IS realistic. Real life tires instead of the vague "comfort medium" or "racing hard" names.)

3. More comprehensive tuning. (I want to know what my car's ACTUAL ride height is, not some arbitrary number with +1 and -1 as tuning options. Tire pressures, I could go on.)

4. Options. (Ex. - I personally liked the wobbling chase cam. I understand some people didn't. Instead of having an option for it, you either get it or you don't. I can't stress this enough, people like options.)

Get this stuff right, and alot of people won't be worried about extra modes or other things. They'll be too busy enjoying their racing game.

I think PD is on the right path of continually improving the GT series for what it is and not try to emulate other driving games or add a mode that does little to enhance the game itself.
It would also take a lot of development time in creating this "free roam" world on top of what they're doing to improve GT5.

I would like to see the free roam thing, but without cops or AI, just as an alternative race track, have a small map to race around online with, and that same map can be selected as an option so you have to drive to the GT auto, UCD, mod shops and dealers. Speaking of dealers if you brought the "driveable menu" (what I will call my take on this idea) into the game, then you could bring back north, east, south and west cities back from GT2!

Imagine how cool it'd be to take your GT cars around say, the city square, or the backroads of Finland? This would work better for those with cars identical to their 1:1 cars, who could go online and drive at stupid speeds without the danger of killing anyone.

I was able to do everything in OP's post in another game... Second Life!
