GT6 WITH OLD FATTYS!! This is a copy of my conversation with support. More people need to complain
Jessica W.: Hi, my name is Jessica W.. How may I help you?
eric true: hi I have gt6 and an old backwards compatable fatty ps3, it keeps crashing turning the system off. I know its happening to a lot of people, what should I do?
Jessica W.: I see, Eric. I'd be happy to look into this for you today. This game title shouldn't normally crash a PS3 system, unless the console itself is overheating/having trouble with the fan, or some other internal hardware.
So we can best troubleshoot the issue and figure out a solution together, I am going to need the model and serial number of your console. Please turn your PS3 around and look for the white barcode label located on the back of your unit. Please give me all of the numbers located on that label beginning with the letter "C".
eric true: hi sorry its not overheating, it is happening to everyone who has the new gran turismo 6 and the bwards-compt ps3.
Jessica W.: I have not heard anything to suggest this is a common issue, but I would be happy to still troubleshoot your console to see if we can get it working. If it still has trouble playing your game, we can definitely set up your system for service.
eric true: look on any forum about Gran Turismo 6, do you want the web page?

We have some older "Fat" models of PS3 here, that work fine with these newer games (including Gran Turismo 6).
eric true: ok, mines not
eric true:
Jessica W.: So I can help you with this issue though, may I please have the serial number of your console?
eric true: its a clean machine only with this game. I've done a reset and everything. I'm at work so I don't have the serial # What would you suggest?
Jessica W.: Ah, I see. When you say you've performed a reset, do you mean you've restored the whole PS3 system, and erased all your old data?
eric true: yes, then held down the power button twice until it beeped 3 times
Jessica W.: So you mean you've accessed Safe Mode, and saw a menu of 6 different options?
eric true: yes
Jessica W.: Of the 6 options, which did you attempt doing?
eric true: and chose the 5th I believe, the guy on the phone support yesterday told me to do that
eric true: from your support
Jessica W.: If you have already fully troubleshot your PS3 and restored the PS3 system "Safe Mode option 5 (on US consoles)," the only other option I would suggest is trying to vacuum out your console's vents of any dust that has collected there on the fan. You can do so using a vacuum with a hose attachment -- we don't recommend using canned/compressed air, as this can force dust further inside.
Jessica W.: I would be happy to check on the steps you've already taken with our phone agent. May I have the phone number you used to reach us?
eric true: Im hoping it will be an update,a patch, since its a problem only with this game, worldwide, which was released last week. do you ways of checking that?
Jessica W.: At this time, if you believe the issue is a software problem (and you have spoken to our software specialists/moderators on our community forums--make sure they're from
http://community.us.playstation.com/ as 3rd party sites are not Sony software specialists), you can definitely wait for a patch for the game itself.
eric true:
yes but I'm telling you its only with this game, and this model ps3
eric true: ok, thats what I wanted to know, do you know how I can find info on that?
Jessica W.: Although I have no information from our company, SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment of America) confirming if this is a widespread issue, there's no way for us to service your console from outside the US or troubleshoot further with the software of the game. We don't have information on future patches either, as these would only be announced via the moderators on our forums above, or on our blog at
http://blog.us.playstation.com/eric true: ok thanks for your help
Jessica W.: You're very welcome, and I do sincerely appreciate you checking in with us today. Thank you for contacting North America PlayStation Chat Support, and there is a brief survey at the end of this session. Once we disconnect, please feel free to answer some questions regarding your chat experience with us.
